Minging question about cysts

I'm so grossed out and embarrassed to be writing this but I have a cyst on my shoulder about the size of a small grape. It doesn't bother me aesthetically since it's on my back.

For the past few months I've occasionally got whiff of a gross smell (like the smell of a piercing) when I turned my head. I couldn't understand it because I could sometimes smell it when I was freshly out the shower. Turns out the cyst gives off a gross smell when I'm hot. Sad I do have a SUPER sensitive nose and DP says he can't smell it at all (and I do think he'd tell me if could, he has form for being honest about embarrassing stuff) but I'm so embarrassed by it now and I don't want to get close to anyone. Sad

Has anyone had experience? NHS website says they don't remove them but my local private hospital says on average it's £450 to have it removed! Has anyone had one taken off on the NHS? It used to not bother me but now I hate it Sad

Urgh god, okay, thanks. Sounds like it's going to be horrible - what a grim job!

Ahem... hello OP.. what has to happen is the following... DH videos all of this, you squeeze or slice with sterilised scalpel/ pin (whatever really I don't care). Then you squeeze like motherfucker and post in sporner corner. Not for me obvs.. for those gross fuckers over there..... rubs hands with glee and anticipation

I had one at the back of my neck for years. Then it became infected so I had it removed by NHS under local anaesthetic. Very minor procedure and a few stitches.

I had a sebaceous cyst, started in an open pore, quite small and harmless for ages, after about 5 years it grew overnight to the size of a grape (on the side of my face) and started to smell, everyone claimed they couldn’t smell it but I kept getting a whiff.

My brother offered to squeeze it, oh my life, after much painful squeezing, it shot out, everywhere 🤢 it was the most disgusting but satisfying experience of our lives (massive sporners). Problem was, it kept refilling, so eventually went to the GP, was referred and it was removed under local anaesthetic, I have the tiniest of scars now.

MangosteenSoda · 14/06/2021 21:15

Definitely persue removal if it’s getting smelly.

Definitely video and share for... educational purposes Grin

I've got one on my back shoulder area being removed tomorrow afternoon at my surgery. It started off as a grain sized lump then slowly progressed to a pea and then a grape. A couple of months ago it became really painful and red so I had antibiotics for a few weeks and the gp agreed to remove it as its on the brastrap area and likely to keep being irritated.

It's actually gone back down to somewhere between pea and grape now but I'm still getting it removed.

Dh had a cyst that was a similar size removed by the gp under local anaesthetic- quite a scar there but they were happy to do it

You wait till you get over to sporner corner...

It’s smelly cos it’s dead skin cells and oil and stuff, they go a bit CHEESY. It is more sensible to get it removed properly because they will take out the cyst sac so it won’t refill - if you squeeze it it probably will. So see if you can resist.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/06/2021 21:29

My uncle had one on his back and the nurse burst it. DH was with him (uncle had just had a hip replacement, they don't normally go to the doctors together!) and apparently a lump the size of a top finger joint flew out. The nurse loved it!

dementedpixie · 14/06/2021 21:30

Yeah you need the sac to be removed or it just refills. Needs a professional to do it

MangosteenSoda · 14/06/2021 21:34

My exH had one on his buttock. It required multiple drainings at a clinic, packing and eventually an operation to dig it out because it kept refilling.

The bastard saved it for after we split up, so he wasn’t even good for the sporn Angry He did tell me about it though Grin

You definitely want to sort it out before it goes pus-crazy.

RubixRubicon · 14/06/2021 21:36

Please ensure the removal is videoed by someone with very steady hands, and who isn’t squeamish! Grin

ArosGartref · 14/06/2021 21:38

My sebaceous cyst never refilled. I feel cheated.

Mojitomumma · 14/06/2021 21:41

Where do I find sporners corner?

Ridiculousradish · 14/06/2021 21:45

I've got a weird spot on my back. An ex used to squeeze it for me. Then we broke up and the spot was ignored for ages. It started to hurt, so I bribed my son to squeeze it. Sweet relief! It absolutely stank of cheese. I've scarred the little bugger for life. He loves telling everyone about my disgusting spot though.
It no longer hurts, is just a pea sized lump on my back.

SinkGirl · 14/06/2021 21:47

The NHS will sort it for you if it’s causing issues - they won’t for cosmetic reasons but if it’s causing pain or smelling awful then they will. I had a wobbly mole on my boob that kept catching on my bra and getting bigger and bigger so they happily sliced it off (I wasn’t happy - terrified of needles)

Milomonster · 14/06/2021 21:48

Would love to get my hands on it and squeeze the shit out of it Grin.

HangingOver · 14/06/2021 21:52

You're not right Milomonster Grin

This thread has cheered me up though, thanks you giant weirdos.

Sorry to ruin the image but there's absolutely no way of squeezing it. It a totally smooth bump you'd need to stab it with something (boak!).

OP posts:
Mrsmorton · 14/06/2021 21:57

It's likely to have a punctum if you can smell it. As pp said, there will be fluid leaking from it so you probably could squeeze it if you could see it properly. The fact that it has a punctum does mean that it could get infected (because it lets the inside out and the outside in) so I would definitely see your GP about it now rather than wait.

WeIcomeToGilead · 14/06/2021 22:00

I pierced mine

I was in an Airbnb at the time which made it a bit stressful when the gunk spunked across the room

Basically I pierced it after covering everything with iodine and the needle was sterilised

Stab...squeeze...cheese!

Flibbitygibbit · 14/06/2021 22:01

Where is Sporner Corner ? ( asking for a friend )
