Can anyone explain my new Bush cooker to me?

I don't understand it Confused
It's a double oven but I think (?) the grill is in the main oven, but the instructions say to use temperature at max for it but that's a different knob.
Every time I try to cook a pie, ready made, the top burns.
What is going on?

But what temperature would the bottom would the bottom element only be
What is the bottom element even used for? Blush

It says cakes and bread can be cooked using the bottom element on the page you posted

I may be being dim, but how do you select which setting the main oven is on and then the temperature when there's only on control knob? Confused

The second knob from the left turns the bottom oven and and does the temperature too. I've never used the word knob so much in my life Grin

No idea 🤔 I only bought it online because Ive been ill and couldn't get out. The grill does work in the bottom but it's just a bit of a pain being lower Im going to try customer services again.

That's what I can't understand either. My cooker has two separate knobs, one for which type of oven setting you want and another for the temperature.

If you switch the top oven on and whack it up to full temperature and put a piece of bread in there will it toast/grill it?

CassandraCross · 15/06/2021 13:25

All the instructions and information you've pasted seems to contradict each other!

FoxgloveSummers · 15/06/2021 13:29

I think I understand... maybe.

  1. The top smaller oven is essentially a grill. You can grill stuff in it without having to pay more and heat up the main oven/get it dirty etc. So there's no function option on the left dial - it's just the grill temp for the top oven (which is a grill Grin). Chuck some bread in it and see if it toasts.

  2. The bottom oven is a normal oven with heating elements at the top and bottom like most. The options on that dial are light only, and then both elements on: which temp do you want. If you turn the right dial to 160 it's both elements (ie the whole bottom oven) on at 160.

  3. No matter what elements are on the hottest part of any oven is the top because heat rises! Put your pie in the middle and/or turn the right hand knob to a lower temperature, too high a temp always leads to burning without cooking through.

Did I win?

FoxgloveSummers · 15/06/2021 13:30

... I'd just tactfully ignore those last two options on the second knob, because realistically you'll never want just the top or bottom elements on!!!

Roselilly36 · 15/06/2021 13:38

Speak to customer services and try to exchange it for a better brand OP.

Cocolapew · 15/06/2021 13:57

@FoxgloveSummers you do win! You genius.
The top isn't an actual oven just a grill.
You're a star 🌟 your medal is in the post.
If Id read the 'about this product' bit on the website properly I would have knew this Blush

Thanks for a the replies Smile

Yay @Cocolapew - I’ve lived in a lot of rented places and ovens are cryptic little bastards at times.

I think possibly you were grilling your pie? Because the bottom oven has a grill function too (top element only, past Max) and probably only gives it full whack. I’d say stick to top oven for grilling and bottom oven for normal cooking and you’ll be laughing (perhaps hysterically).

Cocolapew · 15/06/2021 14:21

I don't think I grilled the pie, moving it down a shelf cooked it fine. My old oven was on its last legs so everything was stuck on the top shelf.
I just presumed the top was a smaller oven Blush
Thanks again, the dog liked the piece of toast I tested it with Grin

Haha - good. I had the same last time I moved, current oven actually gets hot! It’s a shock.

You are indeed a genius Foxglove I was wondering how the hell you would only use either the top or bottom element of the main cooker but your explanation makes sense!

Glad you are sorted Cocolapew, someone on the first page of the thread did suggest the top oven was a grill though....

Cocolapew · 15/06/2021 14:59

Oh. Did they? Sorry that person Smile
