Urgent hedgehog advice needed

Hoping for some reassurance as really worried
We have a few hedgehogs here always see them at night, anyway neighbour is mowing grass and obviously disturbed one who must have been asleep In undergrowth next to their fence. I was having a coffee and hedgehog ran out of undergrowth - really surprised me and luckily headed straight for the shed as the door was open. I watched him climb over things and it looks like he’s disappeared under some stuff in there. I have left a saucer of water in there and some hedgehog food my question is will he be okay in there for today and is he likely to come out when it gets dark, hate to think of him being in distress.
Thanks in advance 🦔

Oh I didnt know this was baby season, could explain why I’ve found a hedgehog every night for a week with its nose in the cat food.

Its been very brave a few times and come into the dining room and headed straight for the bin. It was very interested in the Twirl wrapper !

Red arrows are based in Lincolnshire. Saw them leave their base this morning and head for Windsor.

Aaah okay they must be on the way to Windsor....gosh they were fast though literally a couple of seconds could hear them way before seeing them

😅 what surprised me is how fast they trundle along and how noisy they are at night it sounds like a bike tyre being pumped up. Lovely little characters You can get hedgehog food I think it's basically like dog kibble, I sometimes leave cat leftovers (not fish based) for them but I find a lot of flies on the plate in the morning and they eat all the dry food. It's good to put water out for them too. Didn't know they liked chocolate 😅

Oh they drive me nuts. Roaring over the house repeatedly most days. They drown out my zoom calls. 😄

Oh wow thanks for the photo. He/she looks very healthy and shiny. Will you keep the shed open all the time now and keep providing food. Will it take up permanent residence, someone here may know. Are you going to sit and wait to see when it comes out and where it goes.
Btw the Red Arrows are doing a flypast tonight in Cornwall for the G7 so you might hear them again.

SappysCurry · 12/06/2021 21:51

@DogsSausages
he was drinking water when I peeped in again about forty minutes ago, that was a very cute sight I can tell you 😍
Must have had a rotten day in there, I don’t want them going in the shed really as I don’t think it’s safe it’s very cluttered and there are sharp objects they could hurt themselves on maybe ?
Anyway I think I missed him coming out and sappycat was absolutely fascinated with the area he was disturbed from this morning so I think he bolted when I went in the get a glass of wine to pass the time !
I have refilled the feeding bowl and topped up the fresh water in the garden too.
Will listen out for the arrows 🚀🚀🚀

Further update….
Last one promise as I’m getting boring now 😴
I thought he had escaped from shed as there are two in the garden, one at feeding bowl and one eating nuts on the ground from birds feeder then I heard saucers clattering in shed and he tentatively came out and just sat still outside so I was worried he was hurt but he has trundled off quite quickly now.
I am so relieved and I am going to leave some wet cat food out as a treat.🥰

Aaaaand relax

Thank you for the help today

I was shocked that hedgehogs were so noisy for a second 😂
DogsSausages · 13/06/2021 10:32

You are not boring, I have enjoyed seeing your updates, maybe you should set up a wildlife centre in your garden. 🦔🦔🦔

SappysCurry · 13/06/2021 10:38

Haha...I would say that's already happened

Red arrows performing over the G7 summit i think which feels a little ironic
We have two hogs in our garden every night, they are cute and as others have said very noisy. I bought DH a trail camera which has given us hours of footage of them scuttling in and out of their feeding box but no signs of any interest in the two houses we have tucked in dark corners.

SappysCurry · 13/06/2021 10:53

I have no idea where ‘mine’ live ! They must have successfully hibernated over winter though one seems to be missing this year, hope they’re okay.
But that’s like cat behaviour when you buy them a luxurious new bed and they ignore it and sleep on an old newspaper instead !

Ted27 · 13/06/2021 11:35

Henri(etta) ( no idea how to sex a hedgehog) wanders in most evenings if the door is left open.

I think they may live under the shed.

I don’t want to leave food outside as we have a big bruiser of a visting moggy who would snaffle it all

SappysCurry · 13/06/2021 11:41

That’s adorable ❤️
But in case you didn’t know they cannot eat fish based cat food it’s apparently bad for them as is milk.
They do need fresh water as well
I use a tray( the large ones that go under a plant pot ) weighted down with a brick as they tend to put their feet in (just like in your pic) and tip the bowl up.
I saw that tip on the Brian May programme about his hedgehog hotel.

@Ted27
Seems to be conflicting info I just read fish based okay but makes more smelly poops
(they do poop a lot for a small creature) 🦔
