It's good luck to have a bat in the house!

LavendulaAngustifolia · 10/06/2021 23:52

@Cocolapew

I would just live in the garden now.
because there's no bats in the garden.
Cocolapew · 10/06/2021 23:53

Well obviously there isn't because they're in the house. Taking over.

Cavagirl · 10/06/2021 23:54

When it's flying can you hold up like a big sheet or towel to guide it out? (Guide slowly not flap at it!)

They aren't like birds they won't fly into you (as long as you are calm and moving slowly), so you can gently coax it the right way....

PawsQueen · 10/06/2021 23:58

Going to go in and switch the lights off everywhere else. I think it's still in the hallway

Do you have a flame thrower handy?

Time40 · 11/06/2021 00:04

If it settles for a while and you can reach it, get a plastic jug underneath it and knock it into the jug. I've done this twice, and the bat just dropped into the jug with no bother or flapping. I think they play dead in that sort of situation. (I used a plastic jug both times because plastic is quite soft, so the bats wouldn't hurt themselves if they started panicking and flapping, but neither of them did.)

PawsQueen · 11/06/2021 00:04

It's now in the living room/kitchen - I have 4 windows open in there and the patio doors and it's sort of flying round in circles. Progress I guess that it's closer to an exit

Cat has returned, looking at me like "why you in MY garden?" And gazing at the flapping bat
Managed to shut the door so it's contained to one room with all the exits open but that means I'm shut outside also

Hi I had success with flapping a handtowel at the bat as it circled the ceiling - it clung onto the towel loops and was happy to be placed outside, towel and all, to fly away.

MrsMaiselsRedCoat · 11/06/2021 00:11

We were staying at MILs a few years ago. Dh was asleep, I was trying to get to sleep when I realised there was something flying around the room. Naturally I retreated under the covers and got DH to deal with it.

He opened the bedroom door and put the light on in the landing to attract it. It flew out and he got it outside by then turning off the landing light, opening the front door and turning on the porch light. So if you can turn off the lights in the room he's in and try to lure him out to the light, that should work.

MIL was quite envious when we told her the next morning!

Worriesome · 11/06/2021 00:14

We need a photo of the bat!!

PawsQueen · 11/06/2021 00:17

I am planning on not getting anywhere near bat for photos! He is now resting near the patio doors so very nearly out hopefully

OP posts:
PawsQueen · 11/06/2021 00:38

Bat is out! He flew out the patio doors and seems to be resting in the tree in my garden. I'm watching from inside with everything firmly shut

OP posts:
Cocolapew · 11/06/2021 00:38

Hooray!🥳

PawsQueen · 11/06/2021 00:44

I mean they're cute. From a distance. Preferably behind glass. I wouldn't harm one, but flappy things actually inside.. nope
Cat is most put out he's back inside and has nothing to watch circling the room

Yes, the photo of OPs feet was a tad disappointing to be honest Grin

I think they’re super cute. We have tons outside our house but they’ve never made it inside, yet! They do fly worryingly close to our heads if we sit out on the patio at sunset though!

PawsQueen · 11/06/2021 09:31

Any bat photo would have been a blur of him flapping past my phone while I shrieked

If you need CPR or your leg is hanging off, call me. If there's a bat in the house or a bird, call someone else Grin

OP posts:
Chemenger · 11/06/2021 09:37

The cat probably brought it in.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 11/06/2021 09:40

I love bats. I wish they’d come in my house!

Dd had one that lives outside her bedroom window. She sees it in the evening.

PawsQueen · 11/06/2021 09:41

@Chemenger most definitely not Grin
He can't even catch a spider and is recovering from getting himself stuck in a radiator 24hrs ago... ConfusedGrin
