This is for the heat complainers only

Bugger off and create your own thread about how much you love the heat if you don’t like me complaining

I’m too hot
I’m sweaty
I feel nauseous because of the heat
I’m all sticky
And short tempered

Looking forward to milder weather

I think it really depends on your house as to what advice to take. Living in a Victorian brick built mansion, I was absolutely the one who kept all curtains & windows closed during the day, because the house was unbearable otherwise. I did the same when we moved to our very solidly built mostly southfacing 60s built maisonette - and we completely sweltered. So now I keep the windows open all day to get a breeze through, and it makes a huge difference.

The main thing is to remember to take things a bit easier when it's warmer (and yes, I know not everyone can). Add in an extra ten minutes to a walk to the shop, drink more water, have a lazy dinner, and if you can, just half an hour in the afternoon doing nothing on the sofa helps a lot.

This is my thread!

I am a typical Celt/scot I am NOT designed for the heat!

Housebound anyway at the moment but I always burn, I don't sweat properly and end up feeling ill, my skin reacts badly in multiple ways.

I have fan on and it's still not enough - tbf it's a fan heater so not really designed to cool but has a cool setting

Currently in my Amazon wish list?

20 of these!

Cos I can position them all over bedroom!

@Worriesome I AM in Scotland! It's the humidity making me feel shit! 81% and it's the middle of the bloody night!

Worriesome · 12/06/2021 12:33

@Graphista ha ha no way where abouts are you x

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 12/06/2021 16:01

Love the stroller fans 😂

I bought a cooling mat for he cat from Aldi this week. He's studiously ignored it. Maybe I ought to put it on my pillow and buy the XL size for my mattress!

Has anyone tried those USB neck fans? They look a bit like headphones. I think I'm going to try one!

Marmite27 · 12/06/2021 16:04

@garlictwist

I have got my coat on here (Yorkshire). I wish it was too hot!
Exactly! It’s 19 degrees here in Leeds and I’m wearing jeans and a hoody.
Chunkymenrock · 12/06/2021 16:10

I have only been out in it to peg out washing. It's way too hot and bright. Spending the day indoors cool and comfortable. Much better!

Graphista · 12/06/2021 19:43

@Worriesome I'm on the west coast in a Victorian tenement - these buildings were built/designed to retain heat is a major factor. Cooler today roasting yesterday. Temp wasn't high necessarily it's the humidity! 20% lower humidity today

Might check out cooling pillows etc

Nachteule · 12/06/2021 22:43

I’ve just ordered one of those fans Graphista. They look just what I need.

Deathraystare · 13/06/2021 07:37

I have been whingeing about the heat! I cannot wear normal bras when it is very hot/ I blow up in the heat and cannot fit the normal bras so luckily can wear those Primark Comfort ones and you pull over your head and they are all over stretchy.

Nachteule · 13/06/2021 09:03

I’ve also just ordered a round the neck fan . I’m fine at home because it’s like a fridge for most of the year so is comfortable in this sort of weather. I think I should rent it out to one of you lot then go to the Arctic for the summer

Meruem · 13/06/2021 09:54

I have portable air con in my room. Couldn’t have it downstairs as the space is too large for it to work. But I keep my room like a cave, as I also have a blackout blind which helps to keep heat out. On really hot days I keep the blind shut all day. Some days I just close it from the afternoon onwards as that’s when this side of the house gets the sun. I can then also go and do things in other hotter parts of the house or garden. because I have somewhere to go and cool off.

I’m in London so it really doesn’t cool down at night to any significant degree. I couldn’t manage without my air con. Fans have always made me feel hotter because they just blow around the hot air, which to me is worse than having nothing.

Chunkymenrock · 13/06/2021 20:24

Today was and still is utter hell. Inside and out.

Sheffieldcoolingtowers · 13/06/2021 20:55

My husband keeps telling me it’s not too bad as it’s not so humid. It’s been 27 and sunny and I am 38 weeks pregnant, I am not happy! And we have a loft bedroom....... I have a cooling mat I bought last summer I got out last night and it was amazing. This one www.keplin-group.com/2x-keplin-cooling-gel-pillows.html

Sunbird24 · 13/06/2021 21:00

It’s 29 degrees and humid here. My hair is normally very well behaved but it’s having a bit of a Monica moment. I should get my cooling mat tomorrow though so that will help with sleep at least

Graphista · 13/06/2021 22:59

@Nachteule hope it's a good fan

@Sheffieldcoolingtowers remind your husband you're dealing with the body temp of 2 people and babies tend to run hot! I was pregnant with dd in a heatwave and it was miserable

Any recommendations for cooling pillows preferably Amazon please?

Auldspinster · 13/06/2021 23:07

The John Lewis fans are great, I've had mine for two years and it's still going strong.

cheeseisthebest · 13/06/2021 23:15

I have found my people. I absolutely hate it plus also have really bad hayfever and the aircon in my car has broken! Sad

Keepyourdistance000 · 13/06/2021 23:19

Much cooler Tuesday/Wednesday onwards with thunderstorm warnings too. Bring it on I say.

Used to love the heat but now it just makes me irritable and tired, especially since being on blood pressure medication.

Thelnebriati · 14/06/2021 09:35

The weather report says its 19 degrees today, I think their thermometer is broken.

massiveportion · 14/06/2021 09:40

Speak for yourselves, it's been roasting in my part of Scotland recently.

massiveportion · 14/06/2021 09:40

And I hate it!

HazeyJaneII · 14/06/2021 09:43

Fucking hate it.
I have low blood pressure and am struggling to stay upright. Bollocking heat.
Poor DH has to work out in it all day.
