This is for the heat complainers only

Bugger off and create your own thread about how much you love the heat if you don’t like me complaining

I’m too hot
I’m sweaty
I feel nauseous because of the heat
I’m all sticky
And short tempered

Looking forward to milder weather

@25yearsnhsworker I bought a woozoo oscillating fan last summer following a recommendation. It comes with a remote control and is globe shaped.

I can't see the exact model on Amazon right now (probably Covid stock issues from China). Ignore the really tiny 6" model!

There are various globe shaped fans around although I don't know how many are in stock.

This is mine:

I think they do a tall floor standing model too although it's more expensive.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 10/06/2021 15:19

I find it more effective than bog standard oscillating fans and tower fans.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 10/06/2021 15:20

Sparklingbrook I feel your pain re. hot loft. I'm working up to getting my fan down later!

justthecat · 10/06/2021 15:22

I have air conditioning 😬

garlictwist · 10/06/2021 15:26

I have got my coat on here (Yorkshire). I wish it was too hot!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 10/06/2021 15:29

@25yearsnhsworker Actually I think mine is the 6" model after all (it's the size of the grill not the whole fan). Found it on Amazon eventually:

Ooh a thread I belong on!
I'm a community nurse, working in a polyester type uniform, with plastic aprons, masks and gloves. And uniform policy requires proper shoes that are fully enclosed. The car only cools down by the time I get to my next visit, and has heated up again when I get back into it.
Add in suspected perimenopause and you can imagine how much I enjoy this weather.
I drink gallons every day and rarely need to wee because I'm sweating so much.
Still at least the plastic apron hides the underboob sweat patches. 🤮

Give me spring or autumn weather anyday.

Trytowin20 · 10/06/2021 15:35

I've bought the 3 in 1 sun film from Lidl. Amazing but it is self adhesive so unsure what removal is like (we've only used it on old windows just in case) but the difference is incredible. Box says it reflects 70 % heat back out. You do lose bit of light though (25%) and it's an arse to put up. I have few bubbles but I'm not boiling so I don't care!

Thelnebriati · 10/06/2021 15:45

Its too hot today and its not even bloody sunny.

Soubriquet · 10/06/2021 15:47

Yep @midsomermurderess we’re in the South.

This is after years of living in hot & humid countries where we had air con but just didn’t need to use it - mainly used ceiling fans on very humid days in Singapore.

It’s a well honed technique Grin

CookPassBabtridge · 10/06/2021 16:54

It feels like we had some nice Spring days, then all that rain and cold and straight into muggy heat! Why can't we have more lovely sunny mild days 😭

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 10/06/2021 21:35

It looks milder from Wed/Thurs in the south 🙂

Thankyou so much @garethSouthgatesWaistcoat
I have ordered and should arrive over the weekend Smile

Ps I love Gareth Southgate Football

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/06/2021 19:12

I hope it suits you, I've had mine on today!

I quite like it on the side to side motion. Up and down annoys me. Or you can have both - or neither Grin

The remote control is v handy. You can set it to turn itself off after a while e.g. if the temperature's decreasing overnight and you don't want it on the whole night.

I chose my username on a whim, I don't even particularly follow football 😁
I'll be watching the Euro tournament!

MouseholeCat · 11/06/2021 19:27

The Aussie advice is brilliant. I'm in the US and most of the summer it's 35c+ and humid where we are, a hot day can be 40c. Heat in the UK is miserable as houses aren't built for it, but living in the UK I saw a lot of people doing really silly things that exacerbated how bad it was.

Given that this is a thread about people hating heat, is it really more miserable having the curtains shut compared to sitting in an unnecessarily hot home?!

I'd also advise installing ceiling fans. The UK gets enough hot days now that they are definitely worth the outlay at least in bedrooms and living room as it makes a huge difference to comfort levels.

Thelnebriati · 11/06/2021 21:44

I've taken the mesh off the front of the fan, luckily the blades are plastic because I'm quite clumsy.

LycraCladLucy · 11/06/2021 22:10

I’ve been putting window film on my back windows (back of the house gets extremely hot) for the last few years and it makes such a difference to the how hot the rooms get. My kitchen would be like a sauna otherwise. It’s about £6 a roll in the Range.

I just bought some Chillmax Air units for the bedrooms and they may be small but they cool the room down nicely if you use iced water in them and keep the doors closed. Also have pedestal fans.

I don’t mind the heat too much when it’s actually sunny. Hate it when it’s muggy but cloudy like it has been the last few days here.

TwoShades1 · 12/06/2021 00:13

I’m sorry but close your bloody blinds/curtains! I’m from Australia and everyone does this in summer on hot days! Surely it’s less miserable coz your not hot then!

Holothane · 12/06/2021 00:46

I’ve already told dh I’m not cooking over the weekend there’s loads of salads bit coming with the shopping.

BashfulClam · 12/06/2021 00:52

It’s not hot in Scotland.

sherlockhomeless · 12/06/2021 00:57

I bought a ceiling fan last year and oh my god it's amazing

Susannahmoody · 12/06/2021 01:06

Mavericks system works. Not sure about the naysayers, they've obviously never tried it! They do the same in all hot countries

thevassal · 12/06/2021 01:39

Has anyone tried any of the cooling blankets/sheets/pillows etc? Saw they were selling some in Lidl recently and seen the cooling blankets on amazon, wondered if they actually worked before buying them all!

Sunbird24 · 12/06/2021 01:45

I’ve bought a cooling mat for dogs, will be trying that on my mattress under a sheet after I get it on Monday. Fingers crossed it helps!
