Pick your fighter

Burchill vs Knight
OP posts:

Choose neither.

TheGonnagle · 07/06/2021 14:22

And yes, not a fan of JB but she was right on the money there, wasn’t she?

roundtable · 07/06/2021 14:23

They're both vile. It's like watching two bullies trying to be the 'hardest'. Abhorrent.

HermioneWeasley · 07/06/2021 14:26

Team Burchill. I like her unapologetic don’t give a fuckness. It’s refreshing in today’s self flagellating wokery.

Oh, is this what you like? Mumsnet brushing racism aside as always I see

What’s racist about that? It’s a poke at their endless, sanctimonious virtue signalling. Also fascinating that despite their very public criticism of his family (and I’m a republican, I think the royal family are ghastly), they endlessly trade off that connection and their titles. Why no recognition of Meghan’s family in the baby’s name - why very specifically royal names?

Saucery · 07/06/2021 14:32

The OP says “pick your fighter” . Not “pick your new best friend”.

longwayoff · 07/06/2021 14:46

They are both people who do exactly as they please without consideration of the feelings of anyone else their actions may affect. It's a thin line dividing them but Burchill edges ahead on the grounds that she appears to be reasonably upfront about her behaviour and beliefs. Neither of which, imo, are anything to be proud of. Knight's defence of her longstanding partner is beyond the pale and puts JB on the side of right in this case. In many respects though, and frequently, she is on the side of wrong.

LostInTime · 07/06/2021 14:57

@longwayoff

Burchill is a dark and midnight hag. She's right about IK although there's not a lot of room to share - 'who's the best behaved?' - between them.
Your wording sounds like an insult, but I think I should be proud to be described as a "dark and midnight hag"!
Charlieiscool · 07/06/2021 15:01

Team Birchill. No contest here. How anyone can defend a nonce beats me.
Knight fell out with Liz Jones too and even though I could never read the Mail I can’t resist Liz Jones’s wonderful podcast. Knight accused her of wanking her cats! She’s horrible.

SixStringFanjo · 07/06/2021 15:05

I won't be cheering for either.
Burchill is vile with rancid views. You'd think she'd have learnt and picked her battles more wisely on this subject.

It was a joy to see her get a substantially bloodied nose in a twitter spat with Ash Sarkar, then have to pay considerable damages, plus publicly apologise for bullying, and admit to making racist and misogynist comments. Lost her book deal too. Karma.

BettyUnderswoob · 07/06/2021 15:08

Looking up IK I saw an old headline: "If I thought Eric was racist I'd dump him" she had said about some scrap he was involved in.

So, racist - no way; but paedophile - fine. Confused

What a repulsive woman. It pains me to say it, but I'm firmly team JB here.

And on this basis and this basis only...Burchill
Serpenta · 07/06/2021 15:14

Burchill is right on the India Knight situation. My mind boggles at IK staying with such a man, putting a paedophile before her own daughter. She’s wealthy, she’s connected and would have a mountain of resources at her fingertips to help her leave. But she stays with him. Hoping, I assume, that it will all blow over and she can go back to tweeting inanities and releasing her silly books. Revolting. Cannot fathom being that desperate for a man.

But I’m no Burchill fan. She's a revolting person 99% of the time with so many abhorrent views. Was delighted when Ash Sarkar got the better of her in court.

longwayoff · 07/06/2021 15:26

Grin @LostInTime. One of Shakespeare's finest phrases. JB would be proud to wear it.

This is shocking. There are many issues that you could choose as an example of virtue signalling, she chose this one because Meghan is half black. It's disgusting that you're even defending this. 'Black names matter'?! Really? You've shown yourself

I am truly a philistine Blush

Should have known it was Shakespeare

longwayoff · 07/06/2021 15:51

Don't worry. He wrote a lot and there's a quote for every occasion. 'Midnight hag' is one of my favourites along with 'how sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child'. Caused my children no end of sniggering when they were younger and refusing their lovely tasty dinner. Again.

PottingCompost · 07/06/2021 17:05

I am endlessly puzzled that IK has chosen to keep Joyce. I've seen similar situations play out where the woman was somehow financially or physically dependent (due to disability) on the offender, but India Knight's life seems like it would be easier without Joyce in it!

If she did LTB, I think there are a host of female columnists currently keeping a tactful silence while rooting for her to LTB, who would rally to her defence the moment they got the go-ahead.

Well you could say exactly the same for the Cambridge's children's names - I don't think there is any recognition of Kate's family in their names?

I don’t think IK drinks a lot (based on fuck all evidence, admittedly,) does she? Joyce definitely does. Wasn’t she going to marry him at one point?
