Has anyone ever won a prize on the postcode lottery?

Apparently postcodes are selected via random draws using software which has been certified by a Gambling Commision - approved testing house.
It just doesn't feel transparent enough for me - what does anyone else think?

@lilyboleyn that doesn’t sound right. Is it the same lottery?

Horehound · 03/06/2021 15:25

@lilyboleyn what kind of stuff?!

Horehound · 03/06/2021 15:25

I know, I've never heard of that before 🤔

Akire · 03/06/2021 15:36

Yes I won book also, had a handful to
Choose from I’d rather have had the tenner! Guess it’s cheaper for them with a job lot of
Books.

I've been doing the free postcode lottery for about four years and I've never won anything. Which is annoying because I've got quite a hefty bonus pot built up but I can't withdraw it until I win!

lilyboleyn · 03/06/2021 15:49

It was about 6 books, a Lego plastic model display case, a BBQ skewer set... I’d rather have had the tenner... or even a fiver! 😂😂😂

Has anyone ever won a prize on the postcode lottery?
FiveGs · 03/06/2021 15:51

I've been quite lucky, but mostly tenders and once won £20. I also won a book (you could choose) which I actually think was a good prize!

What’s this bonus pot?

A neighbour of my ex-in-laws won £20k. Ex-in-laws were fuming Grin

Oldraver · 03/06/2021 17:56

@Akire

To be fair if I won £30k the very last thing I would be doing would be to advertise it or get in the local press. I’ve won 8x£10 over last donkey years.
My Mum and her neighbours voted to have no publicity but the local rag printed that their postcode (which is their block of flats ) won x amount
MiaowMiaow99 · 03/06/2021 18:13

A street in my town came up and 5 people won in 3xcess of £300k each. They all went for no publicity.
I win a tenner about 4 times a year.

seasidemafia · 03/06/2021 18:25

@BarbaraofSeville

About half a dozen people in a street in my city won a big prize a few years ago, about £200k each I believe. Was in the local papers.
Same, a few people in a village just outside the town I live in won around 200K each.
TheVolturi · 03/06/2021 18:33

Won £10 a few times.

Bagelsandbrie · 03/06/2021 18:37

£10 a few times. Nothing more!

HorridHamble · 04/06/2021 07:43

I won £1k last year. Also won several tenners since signing up.

30not13 · 04/06/2021 08:49

A few ten and twenties and a couple of books.

Not long after it started a neighbouring postcode won the big one and there were several six figure sums handed out plus a Mini.

Melitza · 04/06/2021 08:55

My dsil had done postcode lottery for a few years. She's never won anything.
I'm in a hospice lottery, never won.
Its a large prize on the Euromillions tonight, may buy a ticket.

AfternoonToffee · 04/06/2021 09:02

I recently got an email to tell me I had won £1k.

It was the current scam that is going round.

EThreepwood · 04/06/2021 11:43

A Mum from my eldest class won £150k a few months before lockdown.

SedentaryCat · 04/06/2021 11:50

My parents postcode area won the million a couple of years ago with each ticket winning just shy of £300k each. Sadly for my parents they hadn't signed up.

We've had a few tenners and a couple of £20 prizes here. Still waiting for the big one though.

EsmaCannonball · 04/06/2021 11:55

I think it's an awful thing because most of the people playing it aren't going to be rich and it plays on the fear of being the neighbour who missed out on thousands while all around have received life-changing money. (Well, at least in the ads.) If you never play the regular lottery or just play with lucky dip tickets then you'll never have that fear of missing out, but if you opt out of this then your face will be shoved in what you've lost. The marketing plays on this and it's horrible.

SkankingMopoke · 04/06/2021 12:22

I don't know if it's still the case, but I read an article years ago (possibly in Metro) that rated the various lotteries against each other. The People's Postcode Lottery came out best 'value' in terms of prizes/likelihood of winning.
I did it for a couple of years and never won anything, but stopped when money was a bit tight.

That is the worst thing about the postcode lottery, there is no privacy. We didn't have a ticket but the number of people I barely know making comments because they assumed we had had a big win (one refused to believe we hadn't) because we lived on the street that won was hideous.

danni0509 · 04/06/2021 15:28

I joined when ds was 6 weeks old, he’s 7.5 years now. I’ve won 3 x £10.

I really want to cancel been thinking it for ages but then what puts me off is I know for a fact the day I do I will drive down my street and see danyl johnson with his gold envelopes!

I’d never forgive myself 🤣
