Need another reference for job, ideas?

I have a job and my current line manager will provide a reference but the job I’m applying for wants a character reference from an upstanding member of society.

I literally don’t know anyone. I’m not in touch with any of my old school teachers, DDs headteacher has a blanket ban on teachers providing references or signing passport photos etc. Doctors have said they’ll charge me each time someone asks them for a reference and I may need it again so only want to go down that route if I have to (been quoted £35 a time, which is a huge amount of money to me).

Any other ideas of who I can ask?

Do you know anyone in the armed forces

No but I reckon my dad will as he’s ex army

but I'm not sure she'd remember us, DD is in Year 2 now so left Nursery in 2018.

The way I would look at it, is that you really have no down side to asking her, why not give it a go?

Do you use a chemist? They would know you, your name and address and would be an upstanding member of society.

Is there a post office where you are known by sight? Again, they are registered fir their job and would possibly recognise you and know your name and address.

Sign up for linked in, join any groups you recognise and you might tar k down someone. What about college lecturers? Any classes you have ever enrolled for, you or your child? My tap dance teacher has done this for people.

Thought I'd update to say not only did the Nursery Manager remember DD in great detail (including a medical issue she has) she remembered me even though I've changed my surname since DD was there.

She provided the reference. I didn't get the job but she's said I can use her again in future if I need to so one less thing to worry about.
