Hi there, we are getting a beautiful hound type female dog in the next two weeks, and we need a name for her.
Because she looks so noble, I don't really want a cutesy scruffy name, I want a noble name, but one we can yell across the park without sounding like knobs. We have met her and her parents twice now, and they are such lovely calm and gentle dogs I don't need anything that sounds too vigorous either.
I know I am overthinking this, but I've been wanting a dog for 10 years now, but haven't been in the right circumstances to be at home for her. I want to
This is the list:
Romily (Romy)
Dulcie
Amber
Sadie
Lana
The only one I really like is Dulcie, but the others have been suggested by DD and DH. Can you suggest some other lovely names?
Others that have been nixed by my pesky family:
Sienna,
Honey
Juno
Eden

Thanks in advance!

Consider how the names will sound shortened and probably rhymed with too, I work with dogs and so many of them don't use their given names after a few months.

I used to have a Misty, who ended up being called Minnie after going via Misty - Misty Moo- Moomin- Min- Minnie.
We then had Lizzie who's name evolved over time to Betty.

Talulla, it's my dog's name and I still love it 8 years later. Smile

Thanks everyone- we’re seeing her on Tuesday so will see which of these suits her now. I like Boudicca though - will be continually singing the Horrible History song in the same name!

Shame the best name doesn't win the pup:)

Delphigirl · 30/05/2021 22:14

I give to you (because I’m generous like that) the name of my next dog, which I think would be perfect for yours...

Gilda

If your DH is in any doubt show him a picture of Rita Hayworth as Gilda in her strapless dress and long gloves. Sheer class!

Warmhandscoldheart · 30/05/2021 22:25

She's adorable 😍
Cara for her caramel colour

OP
Please let is know what you decide in the end, even if it is one of the names in your original list!

Inextremis · 30/05/2021 22:34

Have you considered Diana?

Dora26 · 31/05/2021 10:40

Cara is Irish for friend!

Skyla2005 · 31/05/2021 10:55

Summer
Sky
Bonnie
Lady
Rosie

RoSEbuds6 · 31/05/2021 10:55

And I think it means dear in Italian, but sadly my niece is called Cara.

Diana wouldn’t fly I’m afraid.

I thought of Lupin today which seems rather lovely.

Lupin is lovely (but toxic to dogs so not for the garden)

Well we went to see little 6 week old pupster and decided on a different one. DD loved her and there wasn’t that much to choose between them really. She also seemed a perfect Sadie so we have gone for that. All happy 😃
