Irrelevant Things You Think About But Nobody Else Does

The rules of this thread are simple. Post something you have wondered about, but is so irrelevant it never really bothers you to ask or bring up in conversation. You don't need a reply. You can merely make a comment. All in good spirit.

Here are some of mine.

  1. Do Lottery Winners often give huge tips to National Lottery staff? I can imagine this might happen in practice and may be a key perk of the job.
  1. Am I the only person who can clearly taste carrots in Coca Cola? It is a secret vegetable recipe after all, but nobody else I know mentions anything about the flavour. I also detect a tad of beetroot too.

Wild animals killed on the road. Some of them are quite large.
Are they cleared? They must be, but...

Ozgirl75 · 17/05/2021 13:19

Funny, we were just talking about acid rain the other day, and wondering why that doesn’t get talked about any more.
My wondering is, are my guinea pigs happy? They have a nice cage, plenty of straw, good food but basically they just exist to nibble grass and herbs and things, but do they ever think “what is my purpose in life” ?

Ozgirl75 · 17/05/2021 13:23

My other one is a bit awkward to ask but, do gay men and women fantasise about straight sex in the way that some straight people fantasise about (say) lesbian experiences?

Anordinarymum · 17/05/2021 13:30

Do the other eggs in the box really faint when one of them gets boiled?

Twenty2 · 17/05/2021 13:50

@BlusteryLake

Does my hamster have an inner monologue?

Sometimes I think it's just completely, absolutely bonkers that historical people actually existed as humans. Like Henry VIII was a real person, an actual person. Because people get so much written about them in history books and talked about on TV, they almost become fictional.

Guinea Pigs are very wise creatures, and have worked out the specific purpose of their life early on. They are therefore extremely content. It is, for them, too eat as much food (particularly parsley) as possible.

I think other animals - foxes, crows, magpies etc eat them a lot of the time.

Who decided the words for colours? How did they know that what they decided was yellow that other people saw yellow too?

My cat lived with a Polish family as a kitten. Is Polish her first language or is ‘dinner’ universal Grin

PermanentTemporary · 17/05/2021 15:31

Re acid rain, a major factor was the installation of 'scrubbers' in power stations to reduce ?sulphur dioxide pollution. It was a huge cost hence why it took ages for it to be agreed but AFAIK it's been really effective. Might have been EU pressure that made us do it but I'm not sure about that as Norway was one of the countries that suffered most from our sulphur pollution.

DustyMaiden · 17/05/2021 15:36

@InglouriousBasterd My DB has a German wife she speaks to their dog in German and DB speaks to the dog in English. He understands both.

Linguaphile · 17/05/2021 15:54

We are British but live on the continent. I often wonder if my children would be invited to Beauxbatons or if they would still get Hogwarts letters as they are English. 🤔

Linguaphile · 17/05/2021 15:55

Finished too soon! English speakers I mean.

Ormally · 17/05/2021 17:11

@apalledandshocked but I would think at least half of the predators would leave bones and you would see them (birds, definitely).

Wishingwell75 · 17/05/2021 18:08

I do understand why it's not possible but I still think surely, for a one-time only, never to be repeated, "they" could make more money and share it out. Just once. Wipe out 3rd world poverty, wipe out poverty full stop, worldwide. Both DH and ds1 go crazy when I suggest this but can you imagine if it was possible to do it with wrecking the world economy.

Wishingwell75 · 17/05/2021 18:16

@Anordinarymum - yeah unfortunately they do.
But it's not quite as bad as what happens when they're getting picked off one by one for an omelette or (whisper it).....a fritata!!!Shock

MyOctopusFeature · 17/05/2021 18:39

@Wishingwell75

I just could not equate your comments to other posts such as roadkill, hamsters' weird monologues or vibrating buttocks, so I think you may be on the wrong thread?

What do our DCats think about. Do they get lonely.

Why are some people so utterly selfish/arrogant/nasty

MarshaBradyo · 17/05/2021 18:49

I’ve had a few pandemic related ones

If we got a variant that was fast spreading but not virulent at all it could be faster than vaccination programme

If you had a virus that was through the eyes maybe glasses wearers would survive more

What would be the most concerning variables for a pandemic - no symptoms for ages, high R, high IFR

I can’t remember any others atm but I do have non pandemic ones

Roussette · 17/05/2021 18:58
  1. Will anyone find our time capsule we buried 20 years ago when we had some work done on the house?
We put that day's newspaper, a Beano comic, some vitamins, and a lock of hair in a bottle. And our names and DOBs.
  1. The virus. What if it was coloured and you could see it. I think purple. So you could just avoid it.

In my area, a maintenance worker from the local council collects them and buries them on Council land.

What would aliens think when they came down and saw us keeping different species in our homes and treating them as something special.

girlmama32 · 17/05/2021 19:24

@JesusInTheCabbageVan @SquirrelFan

They're not though are they, they are purple?
