We are camping this weekend. Fucksake.

TableNiner · 13/05/2021 21:45

Feel like my birthday in February was warmer than it is at the moment!

LadyCatStark · 13/05/2021 22:11

@AlCalavicci

It was nice this morning in the northwest sunshine and warm but since then we've had thunderstorms hailstone and very very black clouds and heavy rain it's shorts and wellies weather !
That was my fault @AlCalavicci, I put the washing out. It lasted 5 minutes...

Oh hell. Probably best not to look at the forecast and just look at it as a character building endurance exercise hope for the best

I'm going to our caravan, I think it's forecast to be a thin band of early rain then showers so should be OK, hopefully mainly dry with the odd shower.

@M0rT

My grandmother used to say "a wet and windy May fills the barn with hay" meaning you'll have a sunny June if you have a bad May. So take heart.
That will be my mantra for the rest of May!!

Every fucking day I click on the weather app to see the same thing - weeks after weeks of rain. I'm at my limit. I don't remember a May like this before.

So grim Sad

I read this yesterday: www.bbc.co.uk/weather/outlook

Apparently the shiteness of the weather is due to a big block of high pressure over Russia which is blocking our weather from moving on. So we are stuck with the weather that is normally over Iceland.

It is basically what happened in 2018: only we were Russia and had a glorious summer and poor Iceland got months of rain.

I have so many plans this summer that mainly involve being outside and camping and I will be exceedingly sad if the weather doesn't sort itself out.

garlictwist · 14/05/2021 10:17

@fightingthefoo those London temperatures aren't too bad! Where I live it's a max of 8 degrees today Sad

Fruityfriday · 14/05/2021 10:20

Give it a few weeks and everyone will be starting threads about chub rub, being too bloody hot and wishing for a cozy autumn 😂

Thanks for the explanation. Flippin' Russia!! Angry

I've decided to believe the grandmother's saying "A wet and windy May fills the barn with hay" rather than that rubbish about an Icelandic summer Grin. It's too depressing to read!

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 14/05/2021 11:02

The temperature doesn’t bother me but the rain! Poor dog last year could potter in and out dozing in the sun then the shade. This year he’s not allowed out as the grass is boggy! I want to hang washing out to dry more than anything! Argh!

shewalkslikerihanna · 14/05/2021 11:33

@TokyoSushi

Awful here, dark, windy, looks like it's about to rain again. I'm so sick of being still in my winter clothes!!
Me too Went into town yesterday warm and sunny albeit only 15 degrees Came out a couple of hours later to 10 freezing degrees and mizzly grey blanket blocking the sun Thankfully I was wearing lightweight boots too

Sick of it

Dh is packing up for caravan and I’m wondering why we are even bothering

Onceuponatime1818 · 15/05/2021 07:19

Another shitty rainy day

RampantIvy · 15/05/2021 07:21

It didn't rain in my part of South Yorkshire yesterday. I line dried some washing and cut the grass.

Back to normal today though Sad

shewalkslikerihanna · 15/05/2021 22:13

@Gertie75
At our caravan now
At least it didn’t start raining till 4pm
When we hit york
Can’t believe I sat in the muzzle having a cup of tea with not even a covered table.

Highlight of the day, two taxi drivers hemmed in a car who parked in their rank.
Police were there but the taxi driver was irate ..didn’t half give the guy a telling off in front of the cops
Was hilarious

It’s the little things 😂

newnortherner111 · 15/05/2021 22:15

I predict lovely sunny weather about a week after schools resume in September. Never failed me when I have been able to have a holiday in school term.

Gertie75 · 15/05/2021 22:17

I'm in caravan too listening to the rain on the roof, ours is just over the border into mid Wales and it's been showery all day, plenty of dry patches in between so we've had a few nice walks.
Ours is a seasonal and there was a huge puddle on the awning roof when we arrived so I've added extra crossways poles.

ChocOrange1 · 15/05/2021 22:19

I'm just glad it wasn't like this last year.

But yes its horrible. We cancelled our camping at the beginning of May because it was due to rain and be about 3 degrees overnight. Moved it to end of May, but it doesn't look like it will be much better! Maybe it might be warm enough by the end of July when we are going to Cornwall

beardeddragon174 · 15/05/2021 22:23

@PainterInPeril we also have "raining old women and sticks" :)
