That's fascinating to me, coming from the UK, that you could be well enough off to be able to afford a decent amount of help with the babies but not (or barely enough) for IVF. My IVF to have twins in the UK cost about the same as 4 months of nursery fees!

I often overheard convos with my mum to godmum. She (gm) went to Nigeria for cheaper IVF, and they put 5 male embryos in, if I recall. Wasn't successful and was almost fatal for her.

So even though this story is wild, I'm almost not surprised.

Wishing the woman & her babies good health

Article says, "Most commonly in Africa fertility drugs are prescribed when a woman comes off a hormonal form of contraceptive as she can find that it takes a while to ovulate again...This can then result in the release of several eggs, instead of one, during a woman's monthly cycle." So likely not a deliberate intention to have 9 babies.

Home help is inexpensive in Mali. IVF is not. And an example from Nigeria is irrelevant.

Did you read what the father said to the press about God blessing them with these babies? It really made me smile, I hope things work out well for them. I'm sure their family and friends will rally round and help.
