Relentless cold weather

Anyone else finding the cold never ending and making everything a bit miserable?

I’m fed up of my massive winter coat, and cold walks through parks, getting the kids into 5,000 layers before we leave the house.

I’m sure the weather is normally nicer than this at this point?

I consider anything 10 degrees or below to be cold. And it's the real feel I look at, which takes into account the wind chill factor.

Anything from 15-20 degrees is pleasant (mild) for me.

25 plus is hot.

Ideally, I would live somewhere with temperatures between 15-25 degrees 👌🏼

newnortherner111 · 30/04/2021 14:26

Loving the light evenings, hating the low nighttime temperatures. An easy way of identifying how much colder it is for late April than normal is to think what the weather was like on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding day.

It will of course be lovely on May 17th when more indoor activities open!

Walkacrossthesand · 30/04/2021 14:28

It's the cold mornings too - down to 1-2 degrees here on the South coast, and I don't think that's usual for late April - it's due to the high pressure system with north-east winds that's been sat over us for the last couple of weeks.
The forecast is for the north wind to move away next week, and my BBC weather app shows noticeably warmer morning temperatures (6+ degrees) from Tuesday onwards, so hopefully we'll start to feel less chilly then!
and I will dare to plant out my seedlings currently in greenhouse

LeanneBrownsLonelyBraincell · 30/04/2021 14:52

Yep, nearly May and still have the electric blanket and winter duvet in use.... brrrrr

Dowser19 · 30/04/2021 16:22

I thought we’d had pretty good weather the last two to three weeks, n e half the week and north of york the other half
Was going to Helmsley market today but rain stopped play
Was nice this morning though

Dowser19 · 30/04/2021 16:23

Sat in the car near the lake with off and on hailstones 😡

IceSwallowCome · 30/04/2021 16:27

I'm in Scotland and not feeling it cold at all tbh.

Peachypips78 · 30/04/2021 16:29

I just heard on the radio that it's the coldest April in 60 years.

PretzelParadox · 30/04/2021 16:30

It's bloody baltic here.

CagneyNYPD · 30/04/2021 16:34

Yep, in the South East. Both DC are off to cricket training at 6pm. A new club for DD so I will have to go along for support. I will be wearing my Big Coat. In the 7 years of dc being involved in cricket, I have never worn my Big Coat to cricket. So it must be blimming cold.

LadyCatStark · 30/04/2021 16:43

I’d already written this exact thread in my head whilst out for my morning walk this morning. It’s a cruel trick that Mother Nature is playing on us that we can finally do outdoor activities and it’s bloody freezing. I’ve had the heating on most of this week and on my weekly team meeting we were all sat in coats or blankets (wfh on teams)! We live by the sea and have the added joy of having been absolutely blasted by ice cold winds since mid January. I hate living in this country when the weather is like this 😭.

Babyroobs · 30/04/2021 17:15

It's been warmish in the day but still freezing in the evening, still have our heating on in the evenings as my feet get so cold they actually are painful.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/04/2021 17:20

I'm consoling myself that it's mostly dry and bright and it's not spent enough time reaching 15⁰C to trigger the summer haters Grin

It's the sharp winds, so you're being cooked on one side and frozen on the other and need both the big coat and sun cream!

lljkk · 30/04/2021 17:36

Feels like a normal April to me!! Sunny even if not warm.

Roominmyhouse · 30/04/2021 17:39

Definitely feels much chillier than April usually is, we’ve had lots of sun but it’s not warm at all where I am in Kent.

Tronkmanton · 30/04/2021 17:46

Farmer FIL says it’s the coldest April for 64 years.

lynsey91 · 30/04/2021 19:23

I live on the Notts/Lincs border and it has been freezing here for weeks apart for about 3 or 4 days.

Quite a few of my plants have been killed by frost and the birds' water has been completely frozen solid most mornings.

I absolutely hate it. Like others, I am sick of wearing winter clothes. I hate jumpers and socks and hate even more having to wear about 3 or more layers every time I venture outside.

It has also been pretty windy almost every day. I am also sick of going out every morning and retrieving all the things that have blown around my garden.

No way would I even think of going for a meal or drink when we have to sit outside

Cakemonger · 30/04/2021 19:25

I'm sick of it too. It's currently hailing here (Birmingham).

TheCanyon · 30/04/2021 19:27

I got a call from the dr yesterday to say my vit d is low. Nae fucking wonder, still in the winter coat and quite often gloves and woolly jumper too!!

PinkBuffalo · 30/04/2021 19:30

Yes I am sick of feeling cold as well op. Lovely and sunny but bitter chill in the wind coming in off the sea and still deicing the car as well some mornings

somewheresorted · 30/04/2021 19:31

This is what it should be like in Spring, nippy! Old timer here and this is how I remember spring as a kid with May bank holiday always freezing and damp.

Crunchymum · 30/04/2021 19:33

North London here and I generally run a bit warm (fat, arthritic and possibly peri menopausa) but I've had my portable heater on when WFH and socks / cardi on in bed.

LunaNorth · 30/04/2021 19:34

Bloody frost has killed some of my veg plants Angry

Last frost was supposed to be 28th, but they were gotten good last night.

Dang it.

Hovverry · 30/04/2021 19:43

It’s been the coldest and driest spring I remember. Frost almost every night, no rain at all until yesterday. I’ve been watering the garden since halfway through March. Yes, many afternoons have been sunny but many days with bitterly cold wind.

garlictwist · 30/04/2021 19:49

I would love it to be 13 degrees! It's been 8 degrees here today. I was going to go cycling and just couldn't face it. Went for a pub lunch with my mum and was wearing three coats.
