If you could have any animal as a pet, real or imaginary

What would you have?

Even if logically you can’t have it

For me

Real:- I would love a fox and one day I’m determined to have one Grin

Imaginary:- a miniature elephant sounds cool. Like a Jack Russell used elephant!

A lap sized tapir.

PrudenceDictates · 12/04/2021 08:44

I already have my dream pet: a golden retriever!

But I've always wanted a wolf. I love wolves.
Or, as per a PP, a miniature elephant. Or if space allowed, a big elephant!

badlydrawnbear · 12/04/2021 08:45

A capybara

A dog that came well-trained. I really want a dog, but it isn't feasible because DH and I go out to work and we don't have the time we need to put in to get it well trained. Now DH is probably always going to be working from home at least some of the week and I work very long hours but only usually 3 days a week so it might be possible. And DC1 would stop asking me 3000 times a day for a dog. The cats would hate it though.

Vates · 12/04/2021 09:20

A whippet and a really tiny hippo!

SignMyStookie · 12/04/2021 09:27

A platypus or a zebra.

MaxiPaddy · 12/04/2021 09:42

The disney princess inside me screams tiger.

Although mine would be a white once. Glitterball

If we're talking imaginary, then a Lion. Oh how I love Lions and wish they could be my friends.

CorvusPurpureus · 12/04/2021 10:29

I've already got a wolf (well, she's half Egyptian balady & half African golden wolf).

She's a pain in the arse. Lovely, funny, gentle, full of energy & super bright, but very vocally protective of her family so my housekeeper is definitely nervous about her - she follows the poor woman about howling at her if she gets the chance. Which she doesn't as obviously we lock her in the garden - the wolfdog, not the housekeeper!

She's just a bit...wolfish compared to other dogs 🐺.

I'd like a sweary parrot please, & Bagheera from the Jungle Book.

DenisetheMenace · 12/04/2021 10:29

A sun bear 😍

IDontCarryOnLikeAPorkChop · 12/04/2021 10:32

Don't mean to say a lion is imaginary, just that it's impossible for me to have as a pet. One can only dream.

Aposterhasnoname · 12/04/2021 10:37

A baby giraffe. They have such goofy faces, I love them.

But I regularly fall in love with various animals so my list has previously included, in no particular order, an elephant. a pig, a donkey, a meerkat, a bat, an otter, a kangaroo (must have a joey in its pouch) and a sloth.

Clevererthanyou · 12/04/2021 10:38

An Osprey, a Minah bird, several African grey parrots, a Komodo dragon, 2 guinea pigs, a hamster, a big fat ginger tom and a St Bernard.

ClaryFairchild · 12/04/2021 10:41

An ocelot, they're the only wild cat that can be domesticated apparently. They are sooooo beautiful.

BlackInk · 12/04/2021 10:55

A horse or pony because it would make my horse and pony mad daughter SO happy! We could never afford one, so it's definitely in the realms of fantasy.

I'd also very much like a jackdaw or crow – not in a cage though. One that loves me enough not to fly away...

Oh, and more bunnies. And a goat or two. And a lurchery dog...

BananaMaltLoaf · 12/04/2021 11:16

I had field mice as a kid, we used peat instead of sawdust, they ran away though when DB was handling them. We tried to use a plastic box trap to find them in the woods again, that was never going to work. To be fair, I am not sure why the pet shop was aĺlowed to sell them, they are basically wild. We had lots of mice as pets when I was a child, I absolutely loved them, I always thought hamsters were a bit naff (they aren't, they are lovely pets for kids).

Boboparadise · 12/04/2021 11:23

@Margotshypotheticaldog

Falkor from the Neverending Story. And the black stallion from The Black Stallion. I'm a child of the 80s 😊
Falkor ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Perfect answer
BrownEyedGirl80 · 12/04/2021 11:27

A blue staffie that looks like a pup forever

LittlestBoho · 12/04/2021 12:39

Real life: a rescue pit bull who needs a peaceful home. It's not possible right now though.

Real animal but impossible: a grizzly bear. They are so huge!

Impossible animal: Drogon from Game of Thrones so I could fly around burning the shit out of people.

Imtoooldforallthis · 12/04/2021 12:49

A non smelly skunk

VienneseWhirligig · 12/04/2021 13:02

Aslan

DioneTheDiabolist · 12/04/2021 13:14

A gorilla for grooming, massage, hugs and chat.
A proper fire breathing, flying dragon.

wetotter · 12/04/2021 13:18

I should like

  • a pair of dogs with a lifespan that will match mine
  • some capybara
  • a zebra, a unicorn, a pegasus and a centaur

Plus a Narnian talking mouse as a flat mate

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 12/04/2021 13:22

@Imtoooldforallthis

A non smelly skunk
There are a few pet skunks in the UK with their scent glands removed. Adorably cute, but can be bitey and very naughty.

I'd like a raven that perches on my shoulder, likes being stroked and talks.

Arrierttyclock · 12/04/2021 13:25

I'd quite like a unicorn

PivotPivotPivottt · 12/04/2021 13:30

A monkey 🐒
