Grandparent names

What are your parents called by your children? What did/do you call your grandparents?

I never had any grandparents. Well, my dads mum was around until 2018 but I hadn't seen her or my dad since I was 3. She was nana apparently though I have no memory of this. I refer to my mums parents as nan and grandad even though they died before I was born.

My niece calls my mum nanny. No kids of my own.

I knew a girl who called her grandad Bumpy!

My mums mum was 'Mamar' , I think that is quite a local thing as Mamar is the common name where I live for grandmother, but friends from other area's have never hear it used before

My DP dad - rat rat & grandad G ( dd couldn’t grandad properly for ages and it always sounded like this so that’s what she calls him and he calls her mouse mouse )

My Nan ( when she was alive ) na na & nan

My kids refer to my late grandparents as Nana and Grandad. Same as I did.

MIL & late FIL - Gran & Grandad
OMIL (DH’s first MiL & DS’s Gran) - Granny Cats (because she has lots of cats)
My ex in-laws - Granny Blackpool

My great gran when she was alive was nicknamed Noddy by my mum and her siblings which I thought was sweet

I called my Mums parents Grandma and Grandad (Grandad is still alive)
Dad's parents were Nannie and Gramps. (Nannie is still alive)

My mum and step dad are Grandma and Grandpa.
My dad and step mum and Grandad and Nana
Their dads Mum and her DH are Gran and Harry
Their Dads Dad is Grandad Surname, or often just "Daddy's Daddy" (they haven't seen him for about 10 years I reckon so have no relationship with him at all).

They also have "Grandpa's Mum"

Bumpy is probably Bampy. Which is a wenglish thing.

My gparents were nanna and grandma. And to my kids they were gigi and greatie.

My parents are bampy/grandad and nanna.

Maybe even sometimes Grumpy Grandad.

I still get called auntie (first name) by teen nephews and I love it. We all refer to each other as auntie/uncle for us siblings.

Some of the grandparents have names we have just always used around our children and then a few have names the children have chosen.

My mum is called Nan-Nan. Ds1 chose this. Mil is nanny.
My maternal nan is Great Nan(DS1) and Gran Gran recently from my 3 year old who is a JoJo and Gran Gran fan.
My paternal nan is Grandma as is Dh’s nan.

My dad died when I was a child and dh’s walked out on him when he was 6. Both our grandads are also gone.

When I was a child we called my maternal nan Big nanny and her mum our great grandmother little nanny since she was shorter than her daughter.

I called mine Grandma and Granddad and Granny and Grandad. If we needed to distinguish which Granddad we used their surname or initial of surname.

My kids call one set of grandparents Nanny and Granddad and the other set Grandma and Granddad. They were the names the grandparents chose. Again we say Granddad surname if necessary.

Both sets are grandma and grandad surname, which sounds excessively formal, but only really comes up when we need to differentiate.

We seem to have missed the boat on cute mispronunciations, which I think may be a source of mild regret to the grandparents but not something you can really fake!

parents had a choice, this is what they chose.

My grandpsrents were - Nanny and Grandad. ( Nanny died before I arived, Grandad 3yrs ago)
And the other set- Granny and Grampa. ( Grampa died when I was 7,Granny still alive)

Ex Pil - Grandma and Tadcu ( Tadcu is welsh) Great grandma is ( Mamgu, Its welsh)
MIL is - Nana.
Dh grandparents are Grandma and Grandpa.
My Granny is still ' Granny ' to my DC.
