What are your parents called by your children? What did/do you call your grandparents?

I never had any grandparents. Well, my dads mum was around until 2018 but I hadn't seen her or my dad since I was 3. She was nana apparently though I have no memory of this. I refer to my mums parents as nan and grandad even though they died before I was born.

My niece calls my mum nanny. No kids of my own.

I knew a girl who called her grandad Bumpy!

I had Grandad and Granny Cardiff (who moved to Swansea but kept the name) and Grandad Newport, and Granny Port Talbot. And Nan, who was my great GM.

Mine have Grandad, and Nanny. They have two uncle Mikes though and still haven't worked out how to refer to the right one.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 31/03/2021 20:43

Grandma and DanDan on one side, Nanny and GaGa on the other.

Cally62 · 31/03/2021 20:46

My GP's were nana and granda whom I adored. My own parents were gma and grandad to my dc. My eldest Dd had a baby 8 months ago and I'm Gigi and My partner GePee.

My dd has lots of nanny's (step and an auntie) so she calls them nanny.. Helen for example. She only has one grandad which she calls him Nannu, which is Maltese for grandad 🤗

Granny and Grandpa, and Daadi and Bubba (Urdu).

RubyFakeLips · 31/03/2021 20:49

Nan/Nanny and Grandad or just their first names.

Growing up I had grandparents who mainly spoke different languages so we had Bubbe and Zeyde as well as Nonna and Saba. Mostly I used their first names too!

MissCalamity · 31/03/2021 20:49

My parents are Grandma & Grandad.
DP's mum is Grandma Flats (because believe it or not she lives in a flat Grin )

I called my maternal grandparents Grandma and Grandad and my Dad's mum Nanna.

I have a friend whose children use grandma and grandad last name, which I find very formal and old-fashioned.

Brody77 · 31/03/2021 21:05

Dhs are Nana and dodo and my parents are grandma first name and grandpa first name when referring to them but dd normally just calls them by their first names as all the family (me and my siblings and Dh etc) do and have since we were kids.

AlwaysLatte · 31/03/2021 21:09

DH and I called ours Granny, Nan and Gamma (she wanted to be Grandmere but they couldn't say it so it stuck). My children call my Mum Grandma and his Mum was Gran to them.

spottygymbag · 31/03/2021 21:09

Granny & Grandpa (name) for my parents, Grandmama and Arvo for DH's. Our DC weren't first grandkids on either side so the names were already established.
My maternal grandparents were Ouma and Opie, paternal grandparents were Gran and Grandad.

AlwaysLatte · 31/03/2021 21:10

Oh and all the Grandfathers were/are called Grandad, apart from one who was Pop.

Onthegrid · 31/03/2021 21:13

Both my DP and PIL wanted to be nanny and grandad when our DC were born, so they are and are called the same by all their many grandchildren. To differentiate between the 2 when our D.C. were small we added their surname but not face to face, now my D.C. are adults they are more likely to say to me I called your parents than I called nanny and grandad. They still call them nanny and grandad when they are with them.

My GP were also nanny and grandad but to tell them apart we used big and little nanny was under 5ft. No idea what DH called his as I never got to meet them.

fussychica · 31/03/2021 21:14

I used to call my grandad DeeDee, no idea why.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 31/03/2021 21:17
