List in this order: one thing that’s cute, one thing that’s annoying, and one thing that’s weird.
I’ll go first:

My boy kitty (3) is very vocal and likes to announce himself when he enters a room or comes in from outside. He meows as he’s walking through the house until he finds someone.

Annoying thing is he has the muddiest paws and can often sense when I’ve just changed the bed sheets and will walk all over the bed. The muddy paw prints he leaves are almost comical (almost).

Weird thing is even though he’s neutered he humps a specific type of blanket (super soft fleecy kind) and he also comes into the bathroom after I’ve showered and licks the water off my legs.

Your turn!

My cat is Smudgie is all black 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛
He is so cute when he purrs really loud and is really soppy
He is annoying as greedy and eats up all other cats wet
He is weird when he goes all silly

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/03/2021 16:04

Fat Cat as it says in the tin, very fluffy and likes to sleep and eat, imagine a lion

The Princess, always on the move, without a tail since accident, adventurous (think likes it on the roof) a honed killer

The next door neighbours cat who has moved in, eats, sleeps and likes her cuddles

CigarsofthePharoahs · 25/03/2021 16:14

She's 18 and a rescue from Cats Protection League. She's an all black BSH with green eyes.
Today I poked her as I wasn't sure if she was still alive.
That should tell you about how active she is nowadays.

Cute: DCat likes to hold my hand. She'll sit on my lap or beside me and a little paw sneaks its way across to my nearest hand.
Annoying: If I am settled on the sofa she'll head butt me until I move so she can have the warm spot. Also, she knows which key on the computer keyboard to press to turn the wireless connection off. I don’t know how to do that!
Weird: When she's in the cat carrier at the vets' she cries and sounds like a human baby.

cricketmum84 · 25/03/2021 16:50

2 cats so...
Ivy (oldest cat) cutest thing is when she pins the kitten down to wash behind her ears. And also when she sits on my shoulder licking my face like a demented parrot cat.
Most annoying is the chasing in and out between rooms to stop her pushing the kitten out of the way and stealing her food.
Weird is probably when she suckles on my sleeve like a newborn kitten and makes my cardigan or dressing gown sleeve all wet and stinky!

Betsy (the kitten) cutest is the little chirrups she makes when she runs around, she doesn't do a proper meow just these high pitched chirrup noises. She also bounces around like a newborn lamb.
Most annoying is is when she pounces on Ivy's back making her hiss and growl and then bounds all over the coffee table sending coffee cups and magazines flying!
Weirdest... oh god where do I start!! She has an extra litter tray in the downstairs loo just in case and whenever I go for a wee she follows me and crouches in her tray to do a pretend wee (I can tell because the litter is dry). She never uses it any other time.

All black kitty turned up at our back door when she was about 6ish weeks old. Turns out a neighbour had been given her but didn't really want it so put it outside and it found its way to us. Neighbour jumped at the chance when we offered to take her in if she wasn't going to look after her properly. 8 years later she's still here. I remember I even asked mumsnet for advice as I'd never owned a cat before but I quickly learned that the cat now owned me. I think because she wasn't really treated well when she was very young she has abandonment issues and doesn't like it when we leave her alone in the house, we always get a chatty welcome when we come back home. She only sits on my lap because she knows I don't fidget like DH does but she does sit and stare at him like Eddie and Fraiser.

knackeredcat · 25/03/2021 16:52

6 year old tuxedo boy. Has the cutest chirps and prrrrmeow call. He loves cuddles on the sofa and I'm not exaggerating when I say he's probably saved my life. I couldn't bear not being there for him or his little face wondering what's happened to me.

However, he never quite manages to get the muck off his back paws and those prints get everywhere - usually over a freshly mopped floor. And he's missed the litter tray a couple of times. But if that's all I've to contend with then I'm lucky. Love the little so-and-so.

Cute: wakes me up by pouncing on my toes.
Annoying: brings in dead birds.
Weird. Won't sit on my lap. Too aloof!

BearSoFair · 25/03/2021 17:12

We have two so I'll do it for both!

Daisy:
Cute: The way she comes running to greet us whenever we come home
Annoying: She tends to squat over the edge of the litter tray and piss on the floor...and she refuses to even step into one of the covered/box style trays
Weird: Chews the cactus in DD's room

Penny:
Cute: Will be on your lap for a cuddle within 10 seconds of you sitting down
Annoying: Will stand and bellow at you until you sit down if she's decided she wants said cuddle
Weird: Often falls asleep with her eyes open

ChampagneCat, approx 4yo RSPCA rescue.

  • Is so affectionate and needs to be involved in whatever is going on. She also hides around the corner and jumps out on me every time I go from the bathroom to the top of the stairs. I always find it funny but imagine it will be a different story when I'm in a battered heap at the bottom of the stairs one day.
  • Though we were warned at the rescue, despises other cats. If she sees one through the window she's practically incandescent at the cheek of them. Fortunately we have always being a one cat family, which is probably a good thing really!
  • Despite being the feistiest and bravest cat I've ever met, flatly refuses to go outside. We suspect she was a house cat who got out and got pregnant, then was either given up as a result or collected as a pregnant stray when she couldn't get home. She will walk past open doors and not even consider poking her nose out
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/03/2021 18:07

Cute - she has the loudest purr of any cat, ever. She’s super cuddly, and such a good natured wee soul.

Annoying - really, really vocal when she thinks she should be fed. Which is a lot more often than she is actually fed.

Weird - despite being a feisty little madam, she is absolutely terrified of loud noises. Something being dropped on the kitchen floor, the Hoover, or god forbid the smoke alarm, will see her run howling under the spare bed.

73kittycat73 · 25/03/2021 18:49

@OddestSock

We have three. Our oldest is female and 6. She is LOUD and shouts at us if we arent sitting on the sofa with a particular blanket on our knee because she wants to sit on it. She is also terrible for following us if we go out for a walk. Yesterday morning she did the school run with us. She's smart as hell.

Next one is a boy. He's 4. He is the dumbest creature ever. He eats constantly. His life revolves around food. He is a total scaredy cat. The smallest one went to the vet the other week and he was terrified for days after she returned.

The smallest is female and almost a year. She is adorable. She loves the kids and is like their little shadow. She plays with everything and chirrups at bugs on the window. She's often found sitting in the bath for no apparent reason.

Do you think the small one wants you to run the cold tap a little so she can get some water? I only ask because I used to have some cats that did that and would sit in the bath and wait for you to turn the tap on.
JustLyra · 25/03/2021 19:13

Mine is hand reared so she’s quite quirky at times.

Cute - she thinks she’s a dog and follows me to the shop, post box or walking the kids to school. She sits outside the shop with her nose against the glass waiting on me, much to the amusement of the shop owner.

Annoying - she can turn the bathroom tap on to get water, but can’t turn it off so it ends up running until someone passes. She has three water fountains dotted around the house, but prefers the tap

Weird - we have a relative that she hates. Has never done anything to her, but she walks round a room to avoid them and has done ever since she was a tiny kitten. Amusingly the relative had a different accent to the rest of us so she gets labelled being as Anti-Welsh 😂

StillMedusa · 25/03/2021 19:13

This is Notourcat.
3 years ago he was a pitiful skeletal stray. Gradually he started approaching for food but it wasn't until he got injured and ill that I was able to bag him up and get him to the vets for treatment (and check for a chip)
Slowly he started to trust us, and started to come in for food..and dash out. Then 6 weeks ago...he moved in. Just like that!
Having been fed by at least 3 other neighbours as well as us and being food obsessed ..presumably because he didn't always have any... he is now FAT.
He is also loud, bites us inbetween purring and demanding love. He likes a warm lap and he hits our poor dog who has accepted him with grace. He's around 8 years old the vet thinks, so who knows what had happened to him.

He is very talkative and this morning he stole toast from my plate!

I also had two Maine Coons... but one dumped me for our elderly neighbour 4 years ago and the other has just moved out with my daughter as she was her cat . I miss her but she is blissfully happy with DD2 !

We have a male tabby (4 years old).

Cute: he has different miaows for different requests - and a specific one if he wants to get into the bedroom and the door is closed.

Annoying: he has a cat-flap, and yet miaows to be let into the conservatory, and then out a second door into the garden ... whereupon he immediately walks round the house and comes in through his cat-flap about 10 seconds later. Repeat.

Weird: he is terrified of the sound of aluminium ladders. Terrified. He will run and hide under the chair in my office, and sticks his paw out from under the valance to let me know he's there. (I will sometimes hold his paw to make him feel better.)

Snooks1971 · 25/03/2021 20:23

Great thread! Thanks OP!

Cute: well apart from everything she does every day, it’s when she flies past the patio doors hunting a leaf and she’s on her tippy toes then flops down for a lick wash (to give the leaf a chance to escape)

Annoying: will only drink out of a human water glass and wows for food incessantly then, when served food, walks off

Weird: Likes potato peelings

She’s 17 ❤️

Knittingnanny · 25/03/2021 20:33

Abandoned at about 2 so she is now about 14/15
Cute - if we are sitting next each anywhere in the house, she will muscle her way in to sit between us , even if she ends up squashed in a space about 2” wide.
Annoying - pretends she wants to go out by scrabbling at the front door. It’s to make one of us jump up and let her out. However it is a trick because she runs into the kitchen, stands by her bowl and waits for more food.
Weird - if either of us walks to the hoover cupboard she races outside as she hates the noise

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 25/03/2021 21:12

Boy Cat, has 4 loves in his life. His Mummy, snuggles, food and naps wrapped up in his blanket. Well actually it was my blanket but he's claimed it as his own. I've had him since he was around 10 weeks old, although I chose him when he was 5 weeks old he'll be 14 in a few weeks time. I did miss out on 3 years of his life after me and my exH split up but he's finally back living with me now. He's happier, hasn't been sick nearly half as much as what he was and he's put weight on again now. I'm enjoying my snuggles every day and since having him back my mental health has massively improved.

My little fluffy boy is 17 I’ve had had him since he was 8 weeks

He has a lovely nature and follows me everywhere which can sometimes be annoying

He has the start of dementia he can get confused especially at night and yowls I have to comfort him I know he won’t be around for much longer and that thought has made me cry 😢

blossomtree323 · 25/03/2021 22:48

I have a six year old female calico.

Cute:- When she really wants something, she puts one front paw on the sofa arm and stretches the other leg upwards and tries to high five you with her paw.

Annoying:- She scratches wallpaper and is doing this all over the house, the little vandal Grin.

Weird:- she does this weird twitchy thing with her tail. It looks like a male cat spraying, but she's definitely female Confused.

RavenT · 25/03/2021 23:04

Three year old rescue male tabby and white.

Cute - like a dog. Greets you when you get home, follows you around the house and actively seeks company, does bedtime with DS, looks sad when you go out. Hugely affectionate and talkative.

Annoying - obsessed with food. Even at night. He now has a bowl on the landing and when he punches me in the head at 3am I dutifully get a pre prepared portion of biscuits and put them in his upstairs landing bowl (I know, I know,....!).

Weird - recently came in the catflap, miaowed as if he was a lion, and dropped a large plastic lily pond ornament on the floor. He looked well proud of himself. Grin

hilariousnamehere · 25/03/2021 23:06

This is the loveliest thread :) my two are sisters although they don't look it! Can't get photos to upload, sad times.

Cute: the black one likes to cuddle like a human, paws round neck and stretched out next to me under the duvet and will happily fall asleep and stay there all night. The fluffy one, after a shaky start where I couldn't touch her for months when they first arrived, now comes and asks for cuddles in a very small, very sweet meow.

Annoying - their poo issues! One always has little bits stuck and the other regularly gets poos stuck halfway out. I deal with it but it's not my favourite part of cat ownership 😂

Weird - black one likes to sit out in the rain watching the raindrops and happily getting soaked through. Fluffy one is generally quite cautious but sleeps upside down, belly out and paws up.

They're a pair of furry little weirdos but I love them!!
