Maths is maths. The only trick is whether you agree with what the symbols mean. The 'correct' answer depends on agreeing that it's the number of chocolate chips rather than the number of cookies which matters, and also the time on the clocks.

I've just had half a banana on a ryvita with almond butter and cinnamon with my afternoon cuppa. The latter items have no value so (checks clock) I think that's just under 5

No, it’s not a trick. It’s more a matter of observation, though. The maths is straightforward. There’s no choice in “what maths you use”.

People saying Bidmas/Bodmas has always been taught - how do you account for so many people coming up with answers like 28, 35 and 50? All wrong but all calculated left to right with no brackets.
