A gold star for a correct answer

Anyone up for solving this puzzle?

I got 70 and then scrolled down the first page of answers...... 🤣🤣 I must be way out!

andyoldlabour · 20/03/2021 15:35

70?
3+2+2x10 = 70

Whythesadface · 20/03/2021 15:36

Cookies have 10 chips. worth 10 each.
Bananas are per Banana 2 + 2+ 10 =14
Clock are on 3 plus 2 Bananas 2 + 3 + 3 = 8
Clock on 2.
Cookie has 7 Chips.
2 + 1 + 1 X 7 = BIDMUS 2 + 1 + 7 = 10.
or just do it as it is, as we were shown 4 X 7 = 28.
Brackets need to be compulsory.

@Matrottinetteelectrique

If you do calculations in spreadsheets or programs then you put brackets in, to stop all this kind of mathematical ambiguity.
Agree with this, it's slightly giving me an irrational rage now! Surely you do the calculation based on what you can see not what you can't? If it's to be calculated differently put the chuffing brackets in.

I've never heard of BODMAS and don't intend to learn now so I'm sticking with 28.

I swear we were taught if there were no brackets, you do the sum from the left. 28.

Where have the brackets come from?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 20/03/2021 15:45

That's very sneaky making the clock's hands the same colour as the clock face! How irksome. Grin

ShipOfTheseus · 20/03/2021 15:47

@Cowbells

I don't get it. There are no brackets. Do you imagine brackets around the final numbers if there are none elsewhere? I swear we were not taught BODMAS, BIDMAS or anything like it in our dodgy comp in the 1970s Grin
I went to a dodgy comp in the ‘70s and we were definitely taught the order of calculations then.

It’s 10. If there are no brackets, you do the division or multiplication first, so 1 x 7 in this case. Then you add a 1 and a 2 on (1 banana and 2 o’clock)

No, you definitely never do the calculations from left to right. There’s a set order to do them in, but it’s never left to right, or right to left.
Whythesadface · 20/03/2021 15:54

Things were changed because calculators and computers were used.
Just use the brackets for gods sake, that's what they are for.

5x10=500 ?

EmotionallyEncumbered · 20/03/2021 15:55

2 + 1 + (1x7) = 10

2 o'clock + 1 banana + (1 banana x 7 spots)

What a very sneaky puzzle :)

hansgrueber · 20/03/2021 16:01

Depends if you're saying a biscuit = 10 or a choc chip = 1!

The last row needs BODMAS, ie do the x first.

I get 11 by reckoning a choc chip = 1
