Not an AIBU but I know this topic gets traffic.

Wondered if anyone knows the right answer -

Can the census form be filled out before? I've submitted mine and it went through fine no problem.

However, the letter says to be completed on Sunday or a few days after but yet online it says you can fill it once you receive your letter.

So which is it?

I'm hoping I haven't done it wrong by completing it before Sunday.

@mum2jakie

Don't understand the reference to gas central heating? Doesn't most central heating run on gas? What are they trying to introduce?
They're looking to replace methane with hydrogen for environmental reasons. The plan is for all new boilers to be capable of running on hydrogen, although I don't know if there are any issues with having hydrogen piped to everyone's houses or how cost and availability compares with standard gas.

But some people currently run their heating on oil as they're not on mains gas. I don't know if coal fired central heating is still a thing.

Coming from a mining family, we used to have this, because the coal allowance made it either free or very cheap. We used to get a tonne of coal a month, I don't know if we had to pay for it, but I know we gave some away, exchanged it for goods or other flavours as I don't think you were allowed to sell it, and it still piled up in the cellar and lasted years after my dad stopped being a miner.

Flavours = favours, eg babysitting, gardening etc

"or as soon as possible after" so yes do fill it in now.
I have not found in our famliy anyone on an older census form twice - just confusing things where someone was visiting elsewhere so not at the family home on that one which would have been simpler so I could have seen the usual full family in the one family house. However I agree that might well have happened - on twice. Still didn't find one of my ancestors' 1851 record yet again even searching different names. I will keep trying.
