interesting, shiny, interesting....

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 05/04/2021 18:52

You're the one, the one for me.
JOANNA, KOOL & THE GANG

But you know that I'll forgive you
Just this once, twice, forever.
FREEDOM, WHAM

Here in our paper houses,
Stretching for miles and miles
Old men in stripy trousers rule the world with plastic smiles.
I WONT LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME, NIK KERSHAW

Fleamaker123 · 05/04/2021 18:53

The lovely beach and the sky
The moon of Hawaii
The rum calypso sarong
We'll all be singing this song

Black Lace, Agadoo 😬

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 05/04/2021 18:53

Can I have a point or two for presentation?

shinynewapple21 · 05/04/2021 18:53

@RogueMNerKnowsNoShame

do you want me to do it another day, shiny?

It's OK, Rogue, I'll probably wake up in a bit anyway .

CoffeeBeansGalore · 05/04/2021 18:55

Together we can cast away the fear
Together we can wipe away the tear
Together we can strip down the barriers
And be one

Spandeau Ballet?

Fleamaker123 · 05/04/2021 18:55

Baby, baby, when I look at you
I get a warm feeling inside
There's something about the things you do
That keeps me satisfied

Chaka Khan, Feel for you

shinynewapple21 · 05/04/2021 18:56

Not Howard Jones then Grin

Putting phone on charge , having a coffee and a nap

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 05/04/2021 18:57

@dexterslockedintheshedagain

Can I have a point or two for presentation?
I felt a bit shouted at, tbh. But I'll give you points.

Shiny and flea both get double points for admitting to knowing Black Lace - that really demonstrates commitment to the thread.

I think most of the regulars seem like you're about. Pantry and Carnage tend to dip in and out. Haven't seen Honey for a while, but I imagine she's polishing up her menagerie.
Are you around @Honeyroar?

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 05/04/2021 18:58

correct with I feel for you, Flea

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 05/04/2021 18:58

oh, midge isn't about!

Well, she's got til 8.

NeedToKnow101 · 05/04/2021 19:10

@CoffeeBeansGalore

No, not that, Freedom

I always get their songs mixed up, even though I'm their number one fan.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 05/04/2021 19:11

Thank you @NeedToKnow101 😁

I thought I could relax until 8pm, but it seems not! Rogue started early.

NeedToKnow101 · 05/04/2021 19:14

With pre-lyrics lyrics

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 05/04/2021 20:01

so still outstanding from earlier

Well, I'm just a music man
Melodies are for my best friend
But my words are coming out wrong
And I, I reveal my heart to you and
Hope that you believe it's true 'cause

song title
How can I find a way to make you see I love you?
song title

This is just a simple song
That I've made for you and my own
There's no hidden meaning you know when I
When I say I love you, honey
Please believe I really do 'cause
80s

Together we can cast away the fear
Together we can wipe away the tear
Together we can strip down the barriers
And be one

And as hard as they would try they'd hurt to make you cry
But you never cried to them, just to your soul
No, you never cried to them, just to your soul

Surprised no one got the last one

NeedToKnow101 · 05/04/2021 20:02

And as hard as they would try they'd hurt to make you cry
But you never cried to them, just to your soul
No, you never cried to them, just to your soul

That's Bronski Beat, Smalltown Boy

FlouncingBabooshka · 05/04/2021 20:05

Drums fingers...

shinynewapple21 · 05/04/2021 20:07

I'm awake Smile

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 05/04/2021 20:09

So, here you go. I hope there's a few of you about.

These are all super-easy. Soooooo easy that there's no points, except where I've specifically specified.

I haven't numbered them because (a) no one was admiring enough of my roman numerals the other day and (b) it'll add to the chaos!

The theme is songs with distinctive first lines.

Have fun!

Ooh, a storm is threatening
My very life today
60s

Today is gonna be the day
That they’re gonna throw it back to you
90s

It’s a goodawful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair

Wake in the mornin' and tumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition

She came from Greece
She had a thirst for knowledge
90s

Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today to get through this thing called life
80s

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
70s

Let’s go girls
90s

Just a small town girl
Livin’ in a lonely world
00s

Walking onto a yacht

What you want?
Baby, I got it

I take a look at my life and realize there’s not much left
90s

Bollocks!

You lot won’t get this one. This one is my indulgence. You might guess the band???

There must be some kinda way out of here
Said the joker to the thief
60s

Hello darkness, my old friend
60s

A long, long time ago
I can still remember how
That music used to make me smile
70s

Stranded at the drive in
70s

Hello. Is there anybody in there?
70s or very fabulous cover in the 00s Need both for the points

At first I was afraid, I was petrified
70s

When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
70s

Once I had a love and it was a gas
70s

Out on the wiley, windy moors
70s

Street’s like a jungle
So call the police

If there's somethin' strange in your neighborhood
Who ya gonna call?
80s

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk I’m a woman’s man

With the liquor and drugs

Dirty old river, must you keep rolling, flowing into the night

No New Year’s Day to celebrate
80s

But as long as there are stars above you

Birds flying high, you know how I feel

Mi-i-n-e
Give it to me one time now
Well, whoa, well

Turned cartwheels ‘cross the floor

70s

Bless my cotton socks I’m in the news
80s

I've been alone with you inside my mind
And in my dreams I've kissed your lips a thousand times
80s

I’m so tired
Of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow

Johnny’s in the basement
Mixing up the medicine
I’m on the pavement
Thinkin’ ‘bout the government

It’s Christmas Time
There’s no need to be afraid

With me and the girl from Clapham

I don’t want talk
About the things we’ve gone through
80s (just)

I feel so unsure
80s

And now, the end is near
And I so I face the final curtain
Bonus points if anyone can name the punk artist who covered it, and what was the next line, that doesn’t appear in the original? Treble bonus points for naming it.

All around me are familiar faces

In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed the seas
60s

There lived a certain man in Russia long ago
70s

Poor old Johnny Ray
Sounded sad upon the radio
