I'm guessing I'm a bit older than you lot, then. I think that deserves a point or two ....😉

FlouncingBabooshka · 04/04/2021 22:54

Sorry, I think I get that point Dexter. Pretty sure I’m the oldest here 🙁

Your Beatles one is I am the Walrus.

Honeyroar · 04/04/2021 23:01

You’re not older Dexter. A lot of us are 50/51. Steve is a good bit younger, hence his name.

Yes Shiny - the Andrew Lloyd Webber lyric is a Crowded House song. It’s a track from one of my favourite albums.

I did blank out the words Easter Bonnet from the other song but that’s not actually the title.

FlouncingBabooshka · 04/04/2021 23:40

After a couple of glasses of wine I made a list of some of the things a person could spend £17,500 on if they didn’t have to spend it on roof repairs.

A Nissan Figaro (I’ve always wanted to drive one)
A week’s holiday in a luxury cottage in the Scottish Highlands
The Loaf sofa I would have liked to have bought but couldn’t because it was far too expensive.
A spa day for two every other month for a year
A long weekend in the amazing 5* hotel in town in Italy we got married

There’s still quite a lot of money left over...

I don’t know why I did that to myself 🙄

CoffeeBeansGalore · 04/04/2021 23:46

@FlouncingBabooshka you would not want to be in Scotland tonight. It is snowing with howling wind, temperature going down to minus figures!

midgedude · 05/04/2021 07:41

Flouncing You could have a week on our spare room ... it's not quite luxury or cottage but it hits the Scotland spot ?

FlouncingBabooshka · 05/04/2021 08:51

Coffee, I really do like the snow - but the price I googled was for July anyway Grin. Hope you’re wrapped up warm and have a fire going.

Thank you Midge! No need to worry about luxury levels. Frankly, at this stage, if you have floors in all the rooms, something that approximates a kitchen and a functional roof that counts as luxury.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 05/04/2021 09:19

Honey, that makes me feel much better!
Flouncing, that is an inordinate amount of money. How is it so expensive? Is it thatched or something?

NeedToKnow101 · 05/04/2021 09:37

@FlouncingBabooshka - any chance the intense wind last night has damaged the roof in an insurance needing way? (Disclaimer: I'm not dodgy and have no idea how this sort of thing work; just clutching at straws (pun?) to try and find way to save you some cash.

Re: ages. I'm 51. I think. Once on this thread I forgot and took 10 years off my age Blush.

NeedToKnow101 · 05/04/2021 09:42

Quick theme:

Love me, love me, love me, love me
Say you do
Let me fly away
With you
70s

After all the jacks are in their boxes
And the clowns have all gone to bed
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
Footprints dressed in red
60s

Take him by the hand
Make him understand
60s

And I've got such a long way to go (such a long way to go)
To make it to the border of Mexico
70s

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 05/04/2021 09:45

The last one is Run like the Wind (could be a theme there......!) by The Doobie Brothers?
I'm singing it in my head, and can see the fella, think it was Michael McDonald but I'm not sure.

Not a clue about the rest!

NeedToKnow101 · 05/04/2021 09:49

Correct Dexter ✅✅ 👏🏼... it was Christopher Cross..

NeedToKnow101 · 05/04/2021 09:50

And yes to the theme..✅

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 05/04/2021 10:45

Was Christopher Cross his real name, do you think?!

FlouncingBabooshka · 05/04/2021 10:50

Need to Know - your first is Wild is the Wind by David Bowie.

FlouncingBabooshka · 05/04/2021 11:14

@NeedToKnow101 I quite often have to stop and think before I give my age. I seem to be in a constant state of surprise about how old I am. Part of my brain keeps insisting I am mid-thirties Grin

FlouncingBabooshka · 05/04/2021 11:16

Needtoknow - not sure we could convince the insurance company the wind has caused all the internal mould.

FlouncingBabooshka · 05/04/2021 11:30

@dexterslockedintheshedagain

Honey, that makes me feel much better! Flouncing, that is an inordinate amount of money. How is it so expensive? Is it thatched or something?
Dexter, it’s not thatched. The house is designed in quite an unusual way. It’s a 1930s bungalow and very, very wide. Everyone who comes here thinks it’s enormous looking at it from outside because it has such a huge frontage, but it doesn’t go very far back (Mr FB said it’s like one of those film sets with a facade and nothing behind it!). I think we’ve ended up with a lot of roof compared to the square footage of the house.

We also have twenty-one windows including two bays and a set of French windows! It’s just a regular sized three bed but every room apart from the bathrooms and kitchen has windows on at least two walls - the room I’m sitting in now has them on three walls. Our last house was a little bigger than this one and we only had eight windows and a pair of French windows! When we viewed the house it seemed really nice having so many. Now I’m living in dread of having to have them replaced. 😬

Silly house. Or maybe silly house-buyer.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 05/04/2021 11:43

Oh! I don't know what to suggest apart from getting more quotes and possibly claiming on insurance after the recent storms

Do you have a mortgage? Would it possible to add it if you do? Not ideal, I know.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 05/04/2021 11:44

It must be a very light house though, with all those windows 😳

CoffeeBeansGalore · 05/04/2021 12:04

Morning all.

Still windy, still snowing, but with the fire going it's cosy. And we still have electricity!!! Little things . . . 😁

OP posts:
shinynewapple21 · 05/04/2021 16:29

We had a spot of snow this morning . It's quite bright now but very cold wind . This time yesterday I was sitting in my garden in a tee shirt . I think DS and his GF were a bit over optimistic when they turned up at 6 pm in shorts / mini-dress though . Good job we have the patio heater and blankets .

Oh gosh Babooshka I hope you won't need those windows replacing . We've recently had quotes to replace our windows and I couldn't believe how expensive it's going to be . Have you lived there a long time, or moved recently ?
