Oh yes it does Rogue. Just for some insulation. The outer granite wall is freezing. We’ve other bits of exposed stone wall. They look nice but are dust magnets. That was a front door once upon a time. We bought the cottage next door and knocked through. This house is 300 yeare old, chocolate box cute, but a never ending load of work that we can’t really afford. And then there’s a load of land that is even more of a money pit. Living the dream...🤦‍♀️

Wanderlusto · 02/04/2021 22:23

I wonder if anyone here would be able to help me find this song, I've been looking for it for years on and off. I'm not entirely sure when it's from but I suspect 80s/90s. Google doesn't recognise the lyrics or when I hum it :/

It goes roughly something like this (girl sings):
(Not sure if the lyrics are a bit mixed round)

I'm drifting as I sleep and I'm clo-ser to you.
I'm sure you hear my voice, as I say, your name
I'm reaching out to you and I'll stop you falling
And help you make it through, i swear its true

Cause we can find a way
No endless searching
To...take my breath away (?)

Chorus:
I cant give you up we'll last forever
Holding on, we'll be together
I will never let you feel a-lone

Ect..

Anyone recognise?

Honeyroar · 02/04/2021 22:26

Hello Wanderlusto. There’s a challenge. It doesn’t jump out at me. Do you know what style of music it was? Indie/soul/disco/smoochie etc?

I was trying to think of the stile. Not quite sure what I'd call it. Ballad maybe? Easy listening? It's just a girl singing, relatively slowly.

Wanderlusto · 02/04/2021 22:35

*style

Honeyroar · 02/04/2021 22:44

Have you tried some of the lyric finding sites?

Wanderlusto · 02/04/2021 22:46

Back last time I was looking I think I did. I'll try again at some point.

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 02/04/2021 22:56

Wanderlusto, I'm too drunk to think now but I'll think about it tomorrow.

But I'm thinking about female singers from the 80s. Hmmm

FlouncingBabooshka · 02/04/2021 22:58

Hello Wanderlusto. Those lyrics don’t ring any bells with me I’m afraid. It’s frustrating isn’t it? I’ve been trying to remember the name of a film I watched in the late 80s, possibly early 90s. I keep describing it to people but nobody else seems to have seen it - it’s driving me mad.

(I do have an awful ex boyfriend who I know saw it but I’m not asking him!)

FlouncingBabooshka · 02/04/2021 23:05

@Honeyroar

FlouncingB we’ve got a one day bedroom and en-suite too. Our biggest problem is that the rooms have been unfinished for a decade now and Mr Honey has filled them up with crap. Obviously none of the crap is mine .
MrFB and I both have loads of crap cluttering the house but mine is very important crap whereas his is silly, useless man-crap. By which I mean the crap is silly and useless and belongs to a man, not the crap is owned by a silly, useless man, I hasten to add.

Why does he own so many boxes of cables?

FlouncingBabooshka · 02/04/2021 23:17

I love my house, but it's ugly. It was built early-mid 60s.

That means it’s mid-century modern Rogue and therefore very trendy. Embrace your inner Don Draper!

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 03/04/2021 00:22

Mmm. Babooshka, I think not.

I have just had THE most cracking idea for a theme.
You guys are going to love it soooooooo much. It's too easy, there'll be no points on offer. Just for fun.

It'll have to wait til Sunday though cos I'm busy tomorrow. But brace yourselves. Check in regularly, you won't want to miss it....

^^ Exactly!! I live in a 60's flat. I love it.
NeedToKnow101 · 03/04/2021 09:23

All men own more than 1 box of cables. But Flouncing B and Honey, it does sound like you need a declutter. Be brutal!Think of all that lovely space.

NeedToKnow101 · 03/04/2021 09:28

@Honeyroar

Needtoknow I don’t think I got the Smiths at the time, but quite like them now. I’d say the same for Echo and the Bunnymen too.

Phew! I thought you lot were gonna come at me with pitchforks...😱 I liked a few of their songs, and the Bunnymen's, but I was never immersed in them. Too busy being a disco diva I suppose.

@FlouncingBabooshka - maybe we can help with the film?

@Wanderlusto - the lyrics don't pop out at me but I'll have a think.

It can’t be. I’d get divorced. To be fair most of it is tools and things he uses, he’s a very practical man, but he has to spread it all out for some reason. My dad is exactly the same. My husband was really ill a couple of years ago and I threw a lot out when he was in hospital. He’s still not forgiven me! I don’t help in that I’m always needing jobs done at the stables, and now where the trailer will be sited, so jobs in our house get shelved. Especially as half the house is done and liveable, so it’s not urgent! After a while you don’t even notice!
FlouncingBabooshka · 03/04/2021 11:18

NeedtoKnow- I bet your flat is lovely. 60s properties usually have good sized rooms and lots of light. They also tend to be very solidly built. Not so much chance of bits falling off!

FlouncingBabooshka · 03/04/2021 11:23

Honeyroar - I’m with you on the Smiths. I didn’t get them either at the time. Lots of my friends loved them but I felt like everything sounded the same - like they had one good song. I’ve realised over the last few years I actually love them and Morrisey/Marr are songwriting geniuses.

shinynewapple21 · 03/04/2021 11:51

Hello @Wanderlusto I'm sorry but I don't know your song either. Is it a song you remember from way back, or something you only heard recently , eg on the radio, but know it's it new?

shinynewapple21 · 03/04/2021 11:59

My DH is another who likes is cables ! But he is very tidy and likes things stored away neatly. I'm the less tidy one who keeps things for years . We live in a semi, originally built as council housing in the late 1940s. As someone said above, very solidly built . We got our roof redone last year, more as a maintenance thing .

You’re right. I do need to declutter.

I have too many books but I find it hard to get rid of a book I’ve loved, even one I know, deep down, I will never read again. I have piles of books I haven’t yet read but intend to (last year I finally got rid of a huge hardback I was given as a present in 1988 - I had to admit it was never going to be read!). I still have a lot of my favourite childhood books - Paddington, AA Milne - and my Anne of Green Gables series would have to be prised from my cold dead hands!

We both have way too many clothes and I have so much stuff I took when we cleared my parents’ house. I’m so ridiculously sentimental and found so much stuff that brought back lovely memories from my childhood. Silly things like ‘Oh, these are the mugs we used in the 70s, these are the breakfast bowls we used in the 80s, this is the scarf I remember my dad wearing when I was about 4 years old!’ All stuff that hadn’t seen the light of day for decades and is now just stuffed in boxes at my house rather than stuffed in boxes at my parents’ house. I should just get rid and would probably never give any of it a second thought but I find it so hard...

Heya

I believe it was on a disk of mixed tunes that I first listened too maybe 2000-2004ish. Its had various different bands on it (i think the Hives was one as well so really mixed). Dont know if it was a top hits thing or not but I doubt it as this song seems so obscure.

Wanderlusto · 03/04/2021 12:24

Just read that 'hate to say I told you so' by the hives was released in 2000 so if I'm right it was on that disk too then it puts the 2000-04 timeline around about right. I had a look at the now34 cd the hives were on but no sign of the song, which makes sense because I think it's from a good bit earlier.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 03/04/2021 12:36

Hi @Wanderlusto. Nothing ringing any bells, sorry. Possibly an album track that didn't do much. You say female, any more clues? English?, American? Young voice or older? Band behind the voice or definitely solo?
