Your Home Bargains <ahem> "essentials" are..?

I went to home bargains earlier on, specifically for things for dd2's packed lunches...I managed to come out £45 lighter Confused

I did get the packed lunch bits! And freezer slushes, and candles, and bath bombs, and a wireless mouse for dd1, and drumstick squashies dry shampoo and, well, the receipt's rather lengthy & random Grin

Normally I'm in and out in under ten minutes in a rush to get back & to work though.

What random "essentials" Hmm do you end up coming out with?

1 fake stretchy alien toy
1 mini care bear toy
4 snack attacks
1 bic multi-colour pen
A butterfly gift bag
A heartburn medicine like Gavascon for £1.89
2 brain lickers Hmm
Nivea tub
Dettol wipes
Vimto juice cartons

Mokate Latte and Windward Chilli Sauce. Windward chilli sauce is hot but it's got the most gorgeous flavour. I'm addicted to it.

FionnulaTheCooler · 07/03/2021 14:25

I got hot cross bun flavour gin in mine the other day, they also had these little bottles of chocolate flavour tonic water for 10p each, but the sell by date was really short on them. Also got a big white chocolate scented jar candle for Easter time, and Easter eggs for my DD and my friend's DDs. I love the Golden Wonder spring onion flavour crisps you only seem to get in there, and sometimes they have Tayto crisps, which are lush.

I love Home Bargains. It's the only place I can get the Bacofoil foil and cling film refils. I usually come out with a raft of stuff. Really good for the extra large sizes of Pantene which is all that DH will use, and for a while it was the only place I could get a 100ml Garnier Micellar water for holidays.

tutorwho · 07/03/2021 15:35

We get our Nicky toilet roll from there. I got some mango chutney that has a lovely zing to it.

Littleroundsponge · 07/03/2021 16:53

@lucysmam

I'd forgotten all about the stick on heat patches - I usually buy those in winter when I'm working my Saturday job (some prom dresses are bloomin' heavy to be lugging about all day!) but haven't needed them this year :(
They're great aren't they and I find they actually get a lot hotter than the more expensive brands!
stevalnamechanger · 07/03/2021 17:37

Same I go in and come out spending nearly 100 quid 😂

Livpool · 07/03/2021 17:42

Tissues
Vanish
Washing powder
Antihistamines
Paracetamol
Whatever cakes they have for DS
Ambrosia custard pots
Low fat snacks

Literally anything 😂😂

Livpool · 07/03/2021 17:43

Oh yes and tea lights

RustyParker · 07/03/2021 18:52

Chopped garlic / chill / ginger in jars for 79p each. Great for lobbing in spag bol, stir fries etc.

Love the varieties of drinks for my teen DS's mini fridge in his room: mini iron bru, Mars drink cartons, exotic Vimto etc.

Bulk size Fairy fabric softener for £4.99

My fussy cats love the tuna in jelly tins - 4 for £1.49

RustyParker · 07/03/2021 19:00

I'm definitely looking for the anti crease spray next time I'm in!!

Niconacotaco · 07/03/2021 19:09

Skinny whip bars!

ConkerBonkers · 07/03/2021 19:10

They always have nice hair oils for a fraction of the normal price, baking soda toothpaste too. I also second the big bags of liquorice all-sorts. The Bombay mix is good, as are the mini marshmallows. Good for birthday gifts for children, when children used to have birthday parties! I also rate their baking decoration craft supplies, and the massive jars of super cheap pitted green olives

Crewtshirt · 07/03/2021 19:15

My must have are
Nicky loo roll
Oral B fancy toothpaste
Tin foil
Big bag bird seed
A random once only and never to be seen again thing from the food cupboard section
Sweets and more sweets - always traditional jelly beans & packs of mentoes.

Sheepareawesome · 07/03/2021 19:17

Toothpaste, toothbrushes, shower gel and shower puffs.

Canvasses - I am learning how to oil paint and they have loads of canvases there. I can't walk past the aisle without buying more! Flannels too are about 30p I think. Love hb!

KettleWentBang · 07/03/2021 19:20

Craft stuff
Paper plates. It's dd birthday so she wants a mini party just our house /bubble
Red bull!
Risen choc chews
Candles
Easter pj's
Easter coloring book
Tickle me elmo.
And other random shite.
I only went for toothpaste and shampoo.

I forgot the shampoo! But spent 50 quid

ssd · 07/03/2021 19:22

I go into home bargains for 1 thing and think I don't need a basket or a trolley. And walk round carrying 20 odd things....

lucysmam · 07/03/2021 20:06

ssd I was smart and picked up a basket this time! I'm usually juggling my way round by the second aisle 🤣

Candle jars , shower gels, shampoo.m, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, mugs, batteries, cleaning products, baking stuff.

In my local one you can buy candles in the mother’s day section but not in the home section which really shows this is completely bollocks.

I bought photo frames and candles in Wilko last week from the “banned aisle” bit i went self service. I wish HB had a self checkout.

35andThriving · 08/03/2021 16:49

My 7 year old doesn't even believe me when I say I'm only going to get a small shop in from Home Bargains!!

I am a sucker for most of their stationery aisle.

CarnageAtTheCheeseCakeFactory · 13/03/2021 14:01

I bought their advanced multivitamin capsules today with iron, magnesium and vitamin B3 - £3.29 for 120 capsules.

Amazing, planning to buy some more when they run out.
Wish they sold Vitamin E capsules, but hey ho.

Also, the wipes are on offer at the moment.

CarnageAtTheGuinnessConvention · 15/03/2021 12:07

Bumping as I want to hear more ideas on what to buy ..

CarnageAtTheGuinnessConvention · 15/03/2021 12:10

Hi, please can you tell me what craft stuff they sell?
Mydogisagentleman · 15/03/2021 12:52

Lyons ground coffee.
80 odd pence a bag

lucysmam · 15/03/2021 17:17

Carnage they usually have kits to make like sewing/beads/headbands, paints, pens, pencils, googly eyes, pipe cleaners type things.

I didn't look but expect there were Easter crafts with the Easter stuff too :)
