Has everyone received their census codes and letters for the census? We haven't had anything yet and I wondered if I was the only one.

Panic over, mine came this morning, no card but I got a full census form. I love questionnaires so much I like being part of history.

Ours came a couple of days ago. I haven't looked at it yet, but I believe 'the date' is 21 March. When we'll all still be Staying At Home.

I wonder if the servers can take the entire country filling it in all on the same day. I can't remember how it worked last time, but I know that one of the previous times, DM was a census officer of some kind and had to deliver and collect the forms, aided by me, as she didn't drive and I did.

On the matter of the gender identity question, I have this thread bookmarked to read before I complete the census, so I can also make my views known.

Got mine - I’m going to be a unicorn European - you get to choose what you feel this time. Therefore It means nothing - big waste of money. They are paying people £20 an hour in London to Knock on doors!

Pimlicojo · 05/03/2021 14:58

MrsPear. That is not true. It is not that much. I have a friend who is doing it and a friend who is a team manager and neither are earning £20 per hour.

Given they've lost their jobs due to the pandemic as have many others I don't blame them for grabbing the opportunity to earn some money.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/03/2021 15:00

It's probably £20 ph if you run from door to door, work on your doorstep so no travel time, get an answer from everyone the first time you knock and don't get into a conversation or stop for any tea or wee breaks.

From the time that DM did this, it was a fixed fee plus expenses, but took longer than the stated time to complete the work.

OrangeBananaFish · 05/03/2021 15:00

NE and nothing here. It will come eventually.

Bunnybigears · 05/03/2021 16:49

Many years ago my DM was employed to go door to door helping people fill in the forms it took her many many more hours than they estimated! And thats went people hadn't been locked down and starved of human contact/conversation.

NotSorry · 06/03/2021 11:02

ours arrived today

murbblurb · 06/03/2021 12:20

The point is not how you identify, whatever that means, but to plan education, transport , healthcare and so on. Doesn't mean future government's won't stuff up just as badly but at least they will have data.

Iwantacampervan · 06/03/2021 12:26

Ours arrived in the post today - south of England

GNfan · 10/03/2021 21:09

You don't need to wait till the 21st to complete the census. If you already know who will be on your household on that day, you can complete it as soon as you like. And don't worry about waiting for your access code either. If you go onto the census website and click the link to say you don't have a code, they will text it to you. (I'm a census support adviser at a local centre).

GNfan · 11/03/2021 10:54

@user88899 The census allows you to list people who USUALLY live at your address, even if they are not here on the 21st March.

If you haven’t yet received your census letter (with the 16 digit access code) and are super keen to get started, you can do it online – just click on ‘Don’t have a code?’ - census.gov.uk

You don’t need to wait til March 21st to complete the census online. If you already know who will be in your household on that day, you can fill the census in as soon as you like.

If you’re a procrastinator like me, you have until May 4th to get it done.. but if you don’t fill it in sharpish, you’ll most likely find someone knocking on your door to cajole you.

Thunderblunder · 11/03/2021 11:03

Anybody know what do we do about DD3. She's back in her university halls of residence ( she went back before they were told not to travel ).
Do we put her on our form or does she need her own. We've tried searching on the internet but just keep coming up against conflicting advise.
So far we've found 3 different options.
1 She goes on ours
2 She does her own
3 She does both option 1 and 2

And if she does option 2 does she do it for all her flatmates or just her?

Very confused! Confused

Pearbear · 11/03/2021 11:25

@Thunderblunder your daughter will have her own census form to fill in. I working on a team delivering the packs to halls of residence for uni students. There was a rush to get them delivered before students went home for Easter break

AliceSprings123 · 11/03/2021 11:36

Mine arrived this morning.S.B'ham.

Pemba · 11/03/2021 11:49

We got a letter telling us to complete it online (with codes), but I was interested to see that my parents (in their 80s), got the full form on paper.
Are they basing it on people's ages or what do you think? Parents live a few miles away under a different local authority.

Violetroselily · 11/03/2021 12:01

I got mine earlier this week and have submitted online. First one I've done as an adult...very exciting.

Rillington · 11/03/2021 12:26

@Pemba my parents in their mid 70's just got the code letter. West Midlands.

peak2021 · 11/03/2021 13:22

Paper form has arrived!

happymummy12345 · 11/03/2021 13:23

We don't have ours.

GNfan · 11/03/2021 14:25

For students away from home, they fill the census in for their student address, and (unless they've left home permanently) you also include them on your own census. census.gov.uk/students

Oblomov21 · 11/03/2021 18:08

Done online just now. Easy enough.

Bunnybigears · 11/03/2021 20:39

All done, I'm sure there used to be more questions I remember the paper form being quite thick.

RubyTrees · 12/03/2021 00:05

Done online just now. Easy enough.

Yep, all very straightforward.

Thanks to MN, I remembered not to answer the (voluntary) gender identity question. Smile
