I think I have had the worst neighbour luck ever.
In the last 20 years we have had
1insane guy reporting us to police for “theft”
2noisy music guy
3build extension over border on our land guy
4 officious involving self in my business guy
5 cutting down tree in our garden guy who is married to screaming and shaking fist blame-the-victim woman

Can anyone beat this?
There are plus sides, honest!

@MrBullinaChinaShop

We’ve only ever had one bad neighbour... a woman who wrote us a 5 page letter the day we moved in letting us know the ‘rules’ for living next door to her (we apparently weren’t allowed to walk up and down the stairs with shoes on or put our toilet lid down after 9pm). All the rest have been fine. Some a bit noisy at times that are inconvenient to us (kids go to bed at 7pm so anytime after that really Grin) but they’re just living their lives, which they’re entitled to do. Kids in the house behind us are still out on their trampoline but sound like they’re enjoying themselves!
This is the thing isn’t it. People have to live their lives, and when my kids are being crazy loud I ask them to be a bit quieter, but my neighbour doesn’t bother.

But it’s not even that that bothers me, it’s the various other completely unreasonable behaviour as described in this thread!

MrBullinaChinaShop · 27/02/2021 21:20

Of course @1990s, some of the behaviour described in this thread is batshit.

itbemay1 · 27/02/2021 21:23

5am every day loud wailing prayers, then again at 9-10pm.

Currently renovating their house so lots of loud banging etc which is fine during day but it's at odd times, for example hammer drilling at 6am then nothing until 7pm both home all day so I'm guessing WFH and fitting reno in between that!

It's all really annoying but they're really nice people so we try and ignore the prayers and know the reno will eventually end!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/02/2021 21:26

My neighbours are lovely. Very friendly and we look out for each other.

Snowymcsnowsony · 27/02/2021 21:47

Other side ndn has up to 5 hours calls to her family in Thailand.. In the back garden on loud speaker...

JackieWeaverFever · 27/02/2021 21:55

Upstairs neighbours 2nd floor, I was 1st floor

  1. Called the police to investigate "a burglary" in my home because they "heard someone enter the building" at 2am and noises in my flat. I had been at a wedding and was making a tea Confused
  1. When i moved in they started storing their bikes in the hall partially blocking my door (they previously had them in their flat and only started doing it when I moved in) Confused
  1. Their pipes leaked and caused damage in my flat. I wanted to claim on building insurance they insisted in I didn't and they would pay me (i ignored and claimed on buildings... just as well as they dodged me for next 2 years)
  1. Blamed me and my housemate for their (annoying) bikes being stolen. Ground floor occupier had carers in and out all day, The lock had been jimmied and weakened AND we were not in the country when it happened Confused Confused
  1. I suggested we get a banerman lock - they said no it was too expensive. I reinforced my locks. Two months later once the insurance paid out the robbers came back and tried to rob my flat (failed due to locks) but got the hallway bikes (a-gain) and broke into their flat. They were annoyed I didn't get robbed too / instead Confused
  1. Replaced their own door and locks as cheaply as possible (they were astounded the one recommended was over a grand and refused it) Again refused my offer to go halves on proper main door lock and were DUMBFOUNDED that two months later after all their goods including the fucking bikes (which were finally!!! Removed from the hall) were stolen AGAIN!!! Confused
  1. Came home to find they had installed something approximating a proper lock with a locksmith. Only problem it was at knee height. When I asked why and said it was pretty inconvenient they agreed and said how annoyed they were but they said "weren't lock experts so how would they know" Confused ConfusedConfused

This was pretty cathartic
Hi Fay and Richard!!!! Grin

JackieWeaverFever · 27/02/2021 21:56

Ps my new neighbours are AMAZING

haggisandmarsbar · 27/02/2021 22:00

They are historical reenacters. At least I assume that is why their front and back gardens have security lights that make it look like they are searching for an escapee from prison.

I can read a book in my bedroom without having the lights on when they have the security lights on because they have one at first floor and one at second floor level

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/02/2021 22:07

Ndn keeps playing music loudly, while I'm trying to sleep after a night shift. I decide to buy myself a blue tooth boombox, he wasn't impressed when I started playing my music. I went to get the bins in and heard him shout at his alexa to play his music.

Angel2702 · 27/02/2021 22:08

We are surrounded by weed smoking neighbours, can’t come near our front door without people commenting, have to keep candles on and doors closed as it comes through into our house.

Neighbours few doors away converted shed into a music centre playing music at full volume from the shed in the back garden so they can sit in the front garden to listen to it.

CoffeeRunner · 27/02/2021 22:14

Our current neighbours aren’t so bad I suppose. Although the ones to the left take a car apart every single weekend, regardless of weather. They were even out there with their new spanners on Christmas Day taking a wheel off. This inconveniences us as they always spill over the end of their driveway (regularly park the car half on half off their drive) & we are the corner house in a square cul-de-sac so have to ask them to move the spanner set/jet washer/wheel/bonnet/camping chairs from the road so that we can get our cars out & then back in again. Nice enough people otherwise. It’s just like living in a workshop at weekends.

indemMUND · 27/02/2021 22:16

Elderly neighbour one side who reckons she's deaf but is always ready to pounce on bin day at the slightest sound. Avoidance means bin wars. Very loud tv at night that I can hear over my laptop (her bedroom isn't even opposite mine). She watches everything in the street and asks pointed questions if she catches you outside then talks at you about people you've never met or what she ate yesterday for several minutes, while blocking your route back in. She "can't hear" you if you try to respond.
Other side are noisy as hell when they're in. Banging everything, swearing audibly and non stop DIY for the past 5 years. Like to light very smelly fires in their garden 5+ days in a row at times. Also prone to making very loud whooping noises at random times, but at least 4 times a day that make me jump. The dad is always polite though. Two doors down have THE yappiest dog. The woman stares straight through me but the man always says hello. Constant banging music in the garden in summer x 5 different gardens that I can also hear in my bedroom. Nowt as weird as folk. I might take my own speaker out into the garden when it's warmer though, just to compete with everyone else nearby, I think they're all due a little heavy metal 🤷🏻‍♀️

Last summer, almost every night at 2-3am, calling the Philippines and joyfully chatting for hours. All windows open in the neighbourhood as it was so hot.
IndecentCakes · 27/02/2021 22:43

There's a woman, very, very quiet though she seems to be home all day. I feel a bit sorry for her when the very large loud man arrives home with the very large loud 5-6 year old every night!

NFLwidow · 27/02/2021 22:45

Some of these replies are awful!

We live in a Victorian terrace. Neighbour has a new boyfriend and they have RIDICULOUSLY loud sex. Woke my teenagers up who sleep on a different floor and after several weeks of it I had to message her as it was horrific; think seal slaughtering type noises (both he and her)

Made me realise how thin the walls are and my screaming about untidy rooms will be heard by all and sundry.

On a positive it’s put pre teens off sex as they can’t even comprehend why you’d make those noises.

My current neighbours are awful. They threatened to report me to the Police for a completely made up incident. Wife has classic Narcissistic Personality Disorder traits. I know the term narc gets thrown about a lot but she genuinely is a classic narc. I ended up having to see a psychologist because of her and had to miss a number of days of work as I couldn’t stop crying. I’m now an expert in the grey rock technique!

Have decided to sell my house and move once I decide where I want to live next.

Snowymcsnowsony · 28/02/2021 09:56

Our previous neighbour washed his car (not his dw's) every single day. Noisey pressure washer at 7.30 every single day.
Even the day after he brought his brand new car home. Even after clearing the snow from his drive. Every single day. Never had a lie in past 7.30 for 2 years. Best bit about moving I tell you...

GoldilocksAndTheThreePears · 28/02/2021 10:22

I live in flats, the ones opposite me are general party, weed smoking, noisy arses. 2-3 times a week loud music boom booming until 4am. But it's the ones below me who are literally the worst people I've ever lived near and there is nothing at all I can do! They stamp incredibly noisily, I have no idea how its possible to stamp so loud. It tends to be around 12.30am-2am, stamp stamp bang, then 4 days a week they get up at 5.22am and stamp around until they leave at 6.34am. I can be very, very exact on this but I can't be exact on the days, changes every week. They also put the tumble drier in the room directly under my bedroom, seem to wash things overnight then turn on the tumble drier before leaving. On days they are home they have music loud enough I can hear it in every room in my flat, not booming but loud enough I have raise my voice to speak. And they sing along, loudly and tunelessly drowning out any chance of me watching anything.

I can't remember the last time I woke up of my own choice, either naturally or with an alarm. Everyday, every single day, stamping wakes me and I can't get back sleep or I do and get woken again by stamping. It's not something I can complain about, do anything about, it's normal living noises but so extreme. It really wears at you when its every single day of your life. And it's really put me off music, when I hear music on tv or anything I cringe and get a knot inside, it's like I've lost any chance of quiet ever.

Cherrysoup · 28/02/2021 10:26

Mine are lovely, had my fair share of a complete arsehole drug dealing violent throwing his gf round the flat type. He’d play music 7pm to 7am. Utter wanker. I hope he’s in prison or dead. He deserves it.

Current very minor whinges are family next door like to have conversations on the drive before leaving in the car. They have a very noisy dog who apparently thinks we shouldn’t go in the garden and barks constantly. Bit annoying but they’re otherwise fabulous.

purpleme12 · 28/02/2021 10:33

Not anymore but we had one who put poo on the exterior wall. Can't say whether it was dog or human
And threw an egg next to my child in garden for the minute I wasn't there
Amongst other things
He had problems

8misskitty8 · 28/02/2021 14:43

I’ve mentioned this before. Neighbour reported us to the council about our bins. We built a brick store to keep them in and they complained they could see our bins from their house.
Council sent out someone to ‘investigate’. Council person had a file containing photographs of the bins etc. That the neighbour had sent with the complaint. It was a waste of everyone’s time. Never found out who it was but I have my suspicions.

iklboo · 28/02/2021 14:58

To be honest, next door are lovely except when he's practicing the banjo. We have 'cool hippy guy' over the road who really goes all out for Halloween and makes a great fuss of the kids. He plays bass & sax really well so when he had friends over we all got a treat! We have scarecrow festivals and Xmas window dressing. Lovely.

Now. Round the corner are the world's most annoying kids. They scream & screech all day, ride their bikes out of the near blind cul de sac without looking, knock on doors & run away, go into people's yards & gardens when they feel like it. I sometimes dream about the child catcher...

mbosnz · 28/02/2021 16:11

I forgot the bagpipes!! Every Wednesday, 5 until 9, a piping band practising over the road.

Myneighboursdomyheadin · 28/02/2021 17:08

GoldilocksAndTheThreePears you have my great sympathy. I have been through this and understand about the knot inside.

Are you absolutely 100% sure there is nothing you can do.
