All guardians of toddlers welcome, we offer ideas, activities, and a shoulder to lean on when it all gets too much. We’ve conquered winter, next stop spring!

And I realised I didn’t attach the picture. I swear I have a gravy for a brain sometimes. I’m doing a KIT day soon, doing a bloody covid vaccine clinic. God help us all.

Good luck with the nursery settling in session today Camomila.

I hope DD feels better now she's cut her first tooth MonkeyPuddle it's quite possibly one of the worst parts of owning a toddler.

Hopefully you eventually managed a good chunk of sleep Motherofmonsters amd sorry to hear you're also suffering with teeth.

We've been up since 5am and there is still frost on the cars out front! I cannot believe just how crap the weather is. On a side note at what age do small people suddenly discover the wonder of sleeping in. I'm finding myself already wishing the years away until DS is a lazy teenager who doesn't emerge from his bed until midday. GrinGrin

Chocolatetrifle · 06/04/2021 09:57

@OhToBeASeahorse, don't focus on losing your temper, we all do it at times. It's upsetting but remember they still love us and we do so many good things too! Today is a new day. Hopefully you got some sleep. I find its always the sleep or lack of it which makes me ratty.

@Camomila, hope DS2's first day at nursery goes well today.

@Same4Walls, I'd love to know when the later mornings will start, I think we are all part of the up early brigade here!

Glad you had a good birthday @MonkeyPuddle.

Hope you got some sleep @Motherofmonsters. My DS2, a few months younger than your DD was like that last week, awake so many times in the night. I did actually cry at one point.

Freezing cold biting wind here, so indoors, got the paint sticks, crayons and play doh out.

I’m sure you will all understand why I might be hiding in the kitchen and 4pm with half a glass of leftover prosecco and a Lindt chocolate ball.

My two delightful children.

Chocolatetrifle · 06/04/2021 16:14

Grin perfectly acceptable, any going spare? @MonkeyPuddle.

It's snowing (a little flurry), DS1 is outside and refuses to put a hat and coat on. 'Never' he shouts! 'I will never put my coat on!'

MonkeyPuddle · 06/04/2021 16:49

@Chocolatetrifle I would actually fight someone if they tried to take my Kids Are Being A Nightmare Asda Prosecco off me right now 😂

Ha that was like DS this morning, in the park, in the snow, ‘mummy in hot and I’m taking my coat off’ it was about 2 degrees!

Have made a spag bol so I feel like I have achieved motherhood today, we are all still here and shortly will be fed. DD has managed to puke on DS, herself and me all in one mouthful of sick, have stripped the kids so they’re both semi naked.

My emotional state is as changeable as this months weather!

Motherofmonsters · 06/04/2021 18:43

Monkeypuddle - I am known to also hide in the kitchen eating snacks, DH found me sat huddled up on DS's step stool in the corner.

Does anyone find teeth brushing one of the worst things about having kids. DD is half compliant and it's still a pain, she just sticks her tongue out and then cries.

Chocolatetrifle · 06/04/2021 19:42

Snap, a quick visit to the kitchen under the guise of sorting out the washing usually means a sneaky trip to the treat cupboard, however I had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy, (completely addicted to parma violets and strong mints), so I'm really trying to follow a low sugar diet long term. Somedays however, you just need chocolate.

Agree that teeth brushing is such hard work, it's one of the daily battles. Ds2 looks at the toothbrush and shakes his head then throws it. DS1 is better, and can do his own teeth happily in the evening but doing them in the morning it's a completely different story. Now cutting their nails, OMG, that's an even worse battle!

Camomila · 06/04/2021 22:33

DH found me sat huddled up on DS's step stool in the corner.

Haha yes, I love cooking dinner because it gives me 30mins to sit on DS1s ikea stool in the kitchen eating snacks and scrolling fb.

DS2 had a lovely morning at nursery (just one hour). He went straight to the lady at the door (DS1s old key worker) and waved bye with a smile, then he ran around happily playing for the whole hour - I also got sent a photo. Then he toddled/walked home like a big boy....We'll see what tomorrow is like though. DS1 also loved his first day at nursery because it was a novelty, he cried after a few sessions though when he realised he'd be going all the time!

Motherofmonsters · 07/04/2021 11:04

Not sure if DS is being hardwood or if I'm being grumpy. Were going to the park with a friend later so that should get us out our funk

drumst1ck · 07/04/2021 11:54

Apparently I'm incredibly evil today for not being able to hold every single purple ball from the ball pit. She also seems to be going into a stage of hitting me when she gets angry which is great...A firm 'no, we don't hit mummy' and moving her away from me doesn't seem to be doing much but maybe it just needs time?

Can't wait to have a bit more energy to properly play with her again! (She says, completely ignoring the fact she will have a newborn to deal with as well...)

Same4Walls · 07/04/2021 11:59

Apparently I'm incredibly evil today for not being able to hold every single purple ball from the ball pit.

Can I join the evil mummy club? I'm evil because I dared to put tights on the small person when we went into the garden first thing this morning. There was still snow on the grass! He's thrown an absolute fit since realising he couldn't take the tights off like he can with socks and it's been downhill since then...

MonkeyPuddle · 07/04/2021 12:33

I am evil mummy today as I made DP take both kids on the nursery drop off so I could have more sleep. Oops.

@drumst1ck when DS went through a hitting stage I firmly told him that ‘we do not hit’ and then would get really silly and say ‘mummy’s are for kisses and cuddles’ and plant a million kisses on him, he responded well to it, he knew what behaviour was expected but it gave him a physical distraction as well, plus he always reponds well to being daft.

Chocolatetrifle · 07/04/2021 13:06

I am evil for making my 3 year old get dressed this morning. My younger son has now started the temper tantrums at 16 months, he will pull my glasses off if he doesn't like something.

I see we are back to Arctic conditions in the playground. I thought we'd left that behind in January. Tired mummy today. A lot of hours left until bedtime. Mummy fantasising about a whole night of sleep.

Motherofmonsters · 07/04/2021 13:15

I'm meant to be meeting my friend at the park in 10mins, DS is naked and keeps saying he's happy playing at home...... Looks like we're all having one of those days

PinkDaydreams · 07/04/2021 18:24

Flying in quickly, can anyone recommend a set of under the sea animal figures please? I'm baffled by Amazon! Son has taken a liking to all things fish/sea/aquatic. Thank you!Smile

Chocolatetrifle · 07/04/2021 18:31

@PinkDaydreams, don't know if the link will work but I got these, they are ok, you get a lot for your money!

Nabance sea life animals £10.99.

Motherofmonsters · 07/04/2021 18:53

I'm not allowed to do bedtime, DS is in his room playing naked. I was trying to get his pyjamas on and he told me to go tidy up and he will do it himself... Not quite sure what to do with myself

Lostthetastefordahlias · 07/04/2021 19:34

We have these ones PinkDaydream but now I think the ones ChocolateTrifle has are way better ... ours have not enough fish and too many weird creatures like the fella in the picture there Grin
motherofmonsters wanting to play naked here usually means a huge bowel movement is brewing, really hope thats not the case for you!
Our support bubble has our 6month old overnight tonight to let us get some sleep... toddler has gone to sleep already... cant remember the last time I felt so happy haha.

Motherofmonsters · 07/04/2021 19:37

Funny you should say that lostthetaste DS got a nappy on but then pooped in it and took it off. Poo everywhere and DD woke screaming while I tried to shower him.

Chocolatetrifle · 07/04/2021 19:39

@Lostthetastefordahlias, that is a funny looking fella! like a seahorse crossed with a dragon! Enjoy your evening of peace.

PinkDaydreams · 07/04/2021 20:23

I've seen those ones @Chocolatetrifle thank you but there don't seem to be many fish? Looks mainly like shark type creatures.

Motherofmonsters · 07/04/2021 22:56

I've made an error, I usually watch TV until DD wakes up around 9 and then I go to bed. I've just noticed the time, i should of gone to bed 2 hours ago. It's good she's asleep but I've missed out! Fingers crossed she doesn't wake when I close my eyes

MonkeyPuddle · 08/04/2021 03:08

@Motherofmonsters bit of a shit evening all round eh 😉

DS has just woken up from a bad dream, got him all sorted, crept back into my room and there was DD, just staring at me, ready to fuck up any further notion of sleep.

Told DP that at some point, when restrictions relax I will be taking myself off to a travel lodge for a night, I will nap on check in, eat snacks, have a bath, do yoga, meditate, drink wine and sleep, blissful unbroken sleep. And that he will be paying for it.

Tomorrow’s plans include vague ideas of getting DS to play ‘what’s in the bag’ with the baby, making a car garage out of a spare cardboard box (I intend to write ‘garage’ on it and draw some parking spaces, I am quite the artist), DS has told me he wants to go to the park, we’ve not been since Tuesday....
his gymnastics club restarts soon and I’m so happy for him! Have signed me and the baby up at an (overpriced) baby ‘class’ as non of the free groups are running and I’d like to do something with her before I go back to work.

Chocolatetrifle · 08/04/2021 08:56

@PinkDaydreams, yes the set I've got there's definitely more dolphins, whales, starfish, sharks etc than fish.
