All guardians of toddlers welcome, we offer ideas, activities, and a shoulder to lean on when it all gets too much. We’ve conquered winter, next stop spring!

@MonkeyPuddle, your son and my DS1 could be best friends he absolutely loves the hose pipe, last summer he spent ages watering things plus himself and he was obsessed with water bomb balloons. He is asking already when he can get the hose pipe out!

Same4Walls · 26/03/2021 19:15

drumst1ck good luck with the pillow and duvet tonight we will have all our fingers crossed it all goes well.

MonkeyPuddle it's the weekend... Honestly I have absolutely no idea what day it is or what month it is for that matter. Grin

drumst1ck · 26/03/2021 19:26

DD managed about 2 minutes under the duvet and is now lying on top of it busy chatting away to herself (watching on the monitor). Think it might take some getting used to Grin

Thanks for all the garden ideas! It's a bit of a tip at the moment but hoping to clean it up soon and start filling it with some of your ideas!

Welcome @Swoonforpeterbishop !

Well I've cracked and I'm doing some sleep training with DD. I'm not leaving the room and I'm still touching her she's just not coming out the cot. Going much better than expected. She's on her first wake up, she's not crying but is very unsettled. She's trying to go back to sleep though so I think she's got the idea. We'll see how it plays out, I've done lots of back rubbing through the bars so I'm going to have a sore shoulder tomorrow.

MonkeyPuddle · 27/03/2021 01:11

I’ve had to shout DP through from the spare room to take DD so I can sleep. As soon as I put her down she wakes. Since 7pm tonight til now. She will only sleep on me. I don’t want to co sleep as I can’t get comfy and just don’t sleep.
I know it’s a phase and I know she’ll eventually link sleep cycles but fuck me I am breaking. I got 3 hours of broken sleep last night, an hours nap this afternoon. I can’t go on like this.

Motherofmonsters · 27/03/2021 01:53

Oh *monkeypuddle it's so hard when they won't be put down. Hopefully youre managing to get some sleep while your DP has them.

Lots of wake ups here but she is going back to sleep

footprintsintheslow · 27/03/2021 04:14

Here is a nice Easter film with real children in it.

Not sure if that's a clicky link or not. If not search Easter Story Dosbarth Redwood.

@drumst1ck a pop up tent and pop up tunnel are very popular in our garden and all found second hand on marketplace.

I'd quite like to make a water wall with pipes and funnels if anyone knows what I mean.

MonkeyPuddle · 27/03/2021 08:56

Well last night started horrific but DP managed to get her to sleep in one hour blocks in her basket downstairs and I got 6 whole hours of sleep. Still feel like I’ve been hit round the head with a brick mind you.

She’s breast fed but I’m considering trying some formula if that might help if anyone’s tried it?

Same4Walls · 27/03/2021 09:06

Well done on managing 6vhwole hours sleep MonkeyPuddle hopefully it's a turning point. Sadly I've no experience of adding formula when bf but my small person was ff and sadly it hasn't led to good sleep.

An ok day here yesterday despite torrential rain thankfully today seems to be looking more optimistic weather wise.

No grand plans or activities in the pipeline and motivation to think of something is low. Hopefully DS will be content paying with some tupperware until caffine kicks in. Grin

OhToBeASeahorse · 27/03/2021 09:40

@MonkeyPuddle well done! DD woke me every hour last night and DS began the day at 4.45.

Weep.

Chocolatetrifle · 27/03/2021 10:34

@Motherofmonsters, how did the rest of the night go?

@MonkeyPuddle, both my DS's were formula fed and as **Same says it didn't make any difference at all to sleep. I think you either have one who sleeps or one who doesn't. Ds1 still wakes up a couple of times a night, not for milk but he just wakes! Ds2 still wakes about 3 times a night. I've stopped giving him formula at night only water in his bottle to see if it makes a difference. I'm also giving him supper to try to keep him full, he ate toast and cereal at 7.15 last night then his full milk bottle but still woke 3 times! Perhaps DD might sleep longer once she starts weaning?

So far today we've made cornflake cakes with sprinkles and put Easter window stickers up.

I've just realised the clocks go forward tonight and I know that usually means more sleep disruption, ugh.

Motherofmonsters · 27/03/2021 10:43

She woke a few times, only cried a little bit and I was able to get her back to sleep fairly quickly with rubbing her back. I fed her at 5.30 and the she slept until 8:15. I have very heavy boobs today...

Same4Walls · 27/03/2021 11:17

Oh fuck....

Motherofmonsters · 27/03/2021 19:02

No tears and half an hour with my hand on her back she asleep! Feeling very positive, hopefully she'll wake less but I'm just glad she's not stuck on me.

Hope everyone's had a good day, we've had a quiet day.

Same4Walls · 27/03/2021 19:08

Well done!! My small thing is still awake despite clearly being exhausted. He's now lying in his cot moaning to his teddies that I've dared to put him to bed. Grin

Nothing exciting happened here today, it was all quite uneventful.

MonkeyPuddle · 27/03/2021 19:21

@Motherofmonsters if I pay for a taxi will you come here and sort mine out too please!

We went on a stomp through the woods today, got 30 mins into the walk when DD decided she fucking gates the sling. She’s never not loved it before but today she really hated it. Fun.

DS enjoyed playing in the stream and the waterfall though.

I made the clock from ‘andys dinosaur adventures’ today (drew a clock face on a box!) and DS spent an hour with his figures playing imaginary games.

I’m about to transfer DD into the cot. I have a G&T with my name on it, I do intermittent fasting and my fast starts at 8pm and I’m not missing my one g&t!

Chocolatetrifle · 27/03/2021 19:50

That sounds really positive Motherofmonsters, hope your night goes well tonight.

Enjoy the G&T * Monkey Puddle, you deserve it. Sounds like DS has had a great time doing imaginative play. Its so hard to encourage that I find but the Andy clock idea is fab.

Hope the teddies have stopped encouraging your DS to talk Same4Walls and he goes asleep.

Nothing overly exciting here either, but everyone is ok, despite DS1 being 'on one' today, at one point I was talking to him and he said ' don't say it, just don't say anything at all!'. OK then!

Hope everyone gets a decent sleep without too many disturbances.

Camomila · 27/03/2021 20:07

We had a boring day too though I did finally put away DS2 crib in the wardrobe making our room look neater.

Made the DC a tuff tray out of a big cardboard box and put all the construction toys in - used multigrain shapes and rice krispies for the rocks. DS2 loved it, DS1 also ate a lot of the rocks Grin McDonalds for tea because the flat is messy and I didn't want to add more mess to it!

We've decided to swap rooms with the DC so they can have the big one for all their toys and the living room can stay tidy...I have told DS1 he is getting a beautiful new room for his 5th birthday (mid April) and he is very excited. Is 5 too young for the top of a bunk bed do we think?

Good luck with the clocks changing tonight friends Gin

MonkeyPuddle · 27/03/2021 20:49

@Camomila box tuff tray sounds fab, DS loves getting his diggers into stuff like that.
He’s also in the top bunk of a bunk bed, he’s 4 in June, we have the IKEA Tuffing, it’s quite low to the ground so easy to change the sheets but you lose the option of under the bed storage. It’s also an absolute bastard to build.

DD wouldn’t sleep in the cot and I don’t have the fight in me to make her try, I feel a bit broken and tearful over it all. She’s currently asleep on DP on the sofa and I’m going to bed.

Camomila · 27/03/2021 21:45

nonmumsnetty hug MonkeyPuddle you're not alone. I end up with one or both DC in bed with me everynight. I have the sleep training skills of a limp noodle.

Motherofmonsters · 28/03/2021 05:39

Erm DD hasn't woken up yet, I'm actually worrying something has happened but also don't want to wake her up.

Hope you've gotten some sleep @monkeypuddle. I know the frustration of it all and it really is a killer

Chocolatetrifle · 28/03/2021 07:13

@MonkeyPuddle, hope you are ok? Night times are so hard. I have to transfer DS2 to his cot when he's asleep after him going asleep in my bed, not managed to get him to go asleep independently. Did you get some sleep? I too have co-slept and still do just to get some sleep but understand its not for everyone. Sending you a hug.

@Motherofmonsters, hope you got some sleep too?

Hope everyone's day goes ok with the hour change.

OhToBeASeahorse · 28/03/2021 07:44

@MonkeyPuddle sleep is so soul destroying. I remember at my NCT classes for our first i scoffed at the idea of books (Gina Ford, Baby Whisperer etc). I never realised how much I'd think about sleep - is she overtired or not tired enough? Have I missed the window for self settling? How can I get her to cot nap? Etc. Hugs - it will get easier, it has to!

Motherofmonsters · 28/03/2021 07:46

I slept until 5.30 so got 8 hours( or is it 7with the clocks)! DD woke up with DH's alarm at 6, I fed her thinking she was going to get up. She had some milk then was trying to lie on me so I put her in her cot and she's still sleeping. I couldn't get back to sleep though

Same4Walls · 28/03/2021 19:08

Just popping in whilst DH does bedtime. I'm absolutely exhausted and yet we've done hardly anything today.

DS decided 2am was the perfect time to get up this morning and then he went back to sleep at 4 until 9. The clocks changing have seriously confused his routine and he's not slept again all day.

Does anyone else have truly vile weather? It's been horrid here all day really drizzly and blowing a gale, it certainly doesn't feel very spring like.
