All guardians of toddlers welcome, we offer ideas, activities, and a shoulder to lean on when it all gets too much. We’ve conquered winter, next stop spring!

I hope we do actually come out of it this year and don't go back into it! Cashier in the shop this morning was telling me how Italy have gone back into lockdown. I'm really looking forward to taking my son to the museum, library and swimming, but actually get back into a routine that we can stick to without the fear of Boris closing everything again. I'm also looking forward to the charity shops opening again so I can buy books! Grin

Horrible morning here. DS will cause chaos wherever he can, he grabbed the toothpaste while I was cleaning his teeth and ran off squirting it everywhere. We were trying to get out the house and he was escaping upstairs. I grabbed his foot as he did and pulled him back towards me. He bit his tongue. There is blood everywhere

I feel like a shit parent

MonkeyPuddle · 15/03/2021 10:35

Oh god that sounds truly shit @OhToBeASeahorse
But you’re not a shit parent! You wouldn’t feel bad if you were xx

Oh no I hope both of you are feeling ok and the bleeding has stopped. If it makes you feel any better I'll join you in the shit parent club DS had an awful night he wouldn't settle at all and consequently we are all exhausted. I left him happily climbing on and off the sofa whilst I got my phone from the dining table (about 4 steps away) yep you guessed it he fell off face first and now half his face is coming up in a lovely bruise Sad.

@PinkDaydreams. I hope you're right. However slowly, I just hope we go forwards not backwards. It's the disappointment which is difficult to take. We were all geared up to spend Christmas with my parents when Boris cancelled it a few days beforehand last year and it was just crushing (even though probably the right decision in retrospect).

@OhToBeASeahorse. You're not a shit parent at all. These things happen. I am 100% against smacking children and think it is abhorrent but I must admit one argument that I always find a bit disingenuous is "Well, you wouldn't hit an adult, would you?" No, but I'm not responsible for an adult... I can just walk away. I don't need to keep them safe or make sure they get places on time. If they hit or push other people, not my problem. As parents we can't walk away and have to deal with it and sometimes things don't work out perfectly, but we can only try our best. The other week, DS was being very uncooperative with putting his coat on for nursery so I held him firmly and zipped him up but accidentally nipped his chin with the zip... From the fuss, you'd think I was trying to murder him Confused. Even now, he'll say (in front of his dad and nursery staff) "You won't hurt me this time, Mummy, will you?" when I'm putting his coat on Blush. It's enough to make me want to go on strike!

Chocolatetrifle · 15/03/2021 13:25

@OhToBeASeahorse, @Same4Walls, oh no, your poor DS's, hope they are both feeling a bit better and you are both ok?

Not much going on here today, DS2 still had fevers in the night and he mostly slept on me whilst I sat propped up but antibiotics are kicking in now as he managed to eat some lunch so I think he will be better later. Can't wait for bedtime already...

OhToBeASeahorse · 15/03/2021 14:37

DS's tongue is so sore. Any suggestions for dinner? What would be the least painful for him to eat?

I feel horrendous

Chocolatetrifle · 15/03/2021 15:02

@OhToBeASeahorse, aww, try not to keep replaying it in your mind, it was just one of those incidents we all have that needs to be filed away in the back of our minds. You will feel better about it all tomorrow. Just get through the day.

Scrambled eggs and soft toast?
Soup?
Jacket potato and beans , grated cheese?

Perhaps give him some calpol. Hope you are ok x

MessAllOver · 15/03/2021 16:15

@OhToBeASeahorse. Any ice lollies in the freezer?

BertieBotts · 15/03/2021 19:11

@MessAllOver YY, negotiating with an adult is absolutely nothing like being responsible for a child! I don't agree with smacking either but I agree that argument is stupid. Also "If it worked you would only have to do it once" Confused Excuse me, what magical discipline technique works forever when you use it once? I need one of those!

@OhToBeASeahorse and @Same4Walls that sounds like a rotten day, poor DS and poor you. It's horrible when they accidentally get hurt!

DS2 was delivered to me after Kindergarten today together with his tights :o It seems they had changed his nappy and weren't able to put those back on, just his trousers and he came home in some borrowed socks instead! (It's normal for boys to wear tights in Germany so I think he was just not cooperating!)

They have stopped the AZ vaccine here as a precaution, which is the one DH and my friend were eligible for as my contact-people so we have to wait a bit longer now.

Same4Walls · 15/03/2021 19:20

If you track one down please let me know. Grin

Signing back in after a very grumpy day whilst waiting for small child to decide bedtime is a good idea. He's hardly eaten today as his face is obviously tender from the fall and he's been quite snuggly which ia rather unlike him. Nevertheless I doubt it will deter him from launching himself off the sofa again in the near future. Hmm

Now all that's left to do is to explain to Daddy when he gets home from work why his face is half purple... Added to the bruised legs and knees from crawling, the bruise on his arm from a wooden toy and the bruise on the back of his head from tumbling backwards when he forgot he couldn't yet stand unsupported... I actually think he'd look less beaten if I actually did beat him. Grin excuse the gallows humour. Grin

BertieBotts · 15/03/2021 19:39

God I need one for myself let alone the kids :o

MessAllOver · 15/03/2021 20:32

@Same4Walls. My DS is always covered in cuts, bruises and lumps from his escapades. I quite often have to spend 5 minutes or so at Monday pick-up talking his key worker through how he obtained his various injuries so they can document it for safeguarding purposes. I'm used to the humiliation now Grin.

It's reassuring to know it's not just DS that constantly looks like he's been in a boxing ring. Grin Fortunately I don't have to explain all his bruises to nursery staff yet. Which is probably for the best as I often find myself wondering how he acquired yet another mark. (I'm clearly such a neglectful parent, honestly half the time I haven't a clue how he injured himself). Grin

MonkeyPuddle · 15/03/2021 20:43

Me and DS was at the swimming baths when he was little, he liked hanging off the side like a little monkey, he must have got a bit of water up his nose as he sneezed and nutted the tiled edge of the baths, he gave himself two black eyes! It was about two days before the HV came round to do a review. Perfect bloody timing!

footprintsintheslow · 15/03/2021 20:51

@MonkeyPuddle thanks for link I've booked into two seminar things...is that what they are?!

Motherofmonsters · 16/03/2021 07:29

I'm back to sleep hell again, I think I've managed 2hours in my own bed the last two nights! I've just noticed while DD has been wailing at me that she has 4 molars coming through at once!!

@ohtobeaseahorse I hope his tongue is feeling better today. Don't feel bad, these things happen. DS went flying down a waterslide and plunged into the water before I could get to him once, I had to dive down to get him. He thought it was hilarious but I kept reliving it in my mind for ages.

Chocolatetrifle · 16/03/2021 16:27

@Motherofmonsters, oh no 4 molars at once, that is teething hell! Hope you are ok? Hope you get a bit more sleep tonight.

My DS2 has taken to sleeping on me like a newborn, think its just because he's been a bit poorly.

Was totally fed up this morning about there being no where different to go to, I really miss going to the library with DS1 and DS2 has never even been to one due to lockdown. However got out for a walk, played with inflatable musical instruments and also an actual recorder and made some noise!

Have ordered some Easter crafty things too. Hope everyone is ok.

Motherofmonsters · 16/03/2021 17:11

Thanks you chocolatetrifle I'm hoping for more sleep to, today has been a struggle. Your walk sounds like great fun!!

DS has been on one today (actually from Sunday onwards) he's literally gone uncontrollable. I had a phone call from preschool yesterday saying he was being more physical with his 'friends' than usual. Im hoping it's because he's gone from doing not a lot with me to suddenly doing loads at school. Im not going to cope if this is a new him

Chocolatetrifle · 16/03/2021 17:47

@Motherofmonsters, how old is your DS? My DS1 is 3.5 and is also a nightmare a lot of the day. He will start preschool soon. I'm wondering if it's just a boy thing or an age thing. He is lovely so much of the time but then gets so completely angry. He throws things constantly too. I'm wondering if he is just copying his little brother. Hoping preschool will help occupy him and give him more things to do as I sometimes feel what I can do at home is just not enough to keep him entertained x

Same4Walls · 16/03/2021 18:38

Motherofmonsters oh yikes 4 molars sounds like a new kind of torture! Im sorry to hear you're struggling. (hugs)

chocolatetrifle sounds like you've had a very exciting musical day. We're missing the library here too, it was lovely to go for an hour and choose some new books, it really broke up the day. What Easter crafts have you ordered??

We've had a dull day here. It's rained allllllll day again, I'm so bored of rain.

Motherofmonsters · 16/03/2021 19:02

*chocolatetrifle he's 3.7years so not much older. I imagine it's an age and boy thing!!

Chocolatetrifle · 16/03/2021 19:54

**Motherofmonsters - similar age then, I think it must be a phase then- really hope it ends soon. He is too fond of launching things when he gets mad and he is so angry at the world sometimes , and I think but you are only 3! Probably be easier when weather improves and he can get outside more to burn all the energy off. Hope you get a better sleep tonight.

**Same4walls, rain, urgh, I hate wet days so much. Hope your DS is OK after his fall.
I just ordered some easter stickers, eggs, glitter, Easter bonnet kit etc. Hope you get a decent sleep too and not up at 5.

Have been thinking all day how lovely it would be to have a spa day all by myself!

Motherofmonsters · 17/03/2021 09:35

Still no sleep here but the sun is shining. I'm actually wearing shorts!

DS has gone off to Preschool, I'm hoping I don't get any phone calls today. I'm going to attempt to tackle the house while DD potters around and then I'm going to eat all the snacks at nap time
