All guardians of toddlers welcome, we offer ideas, activities, and a shoulder to lean on when it all gets too much. We’ve conquered winter, next stop spring!

@MonkeyPuddle my sister once bought my mum a tin of After Eights for Christmas. She couldn't resist and ate one. It then looked uneven so she ate one from the other row.

Mum got an empty tin for Christmas Grin

Same4Walls · 13/03/2021 14:45

Chocolatetrifle alas it did not last long at all and now he's whining because he wants Dada and Dada isn't here. Hmm

meow1989 sounds like you've hada very productive day so far. I'm impressed and could do with some of your motivation.

MonkeyPuddle I'd eat it in a heartbeat and then plead ignorance. Brownie? What Brownie?? BlushGrin

Chocolatetrifle · 13/03/2021 14:50

@MonkeyPuddle, that looks deliciousSmile, I'm also guilty of sampling chocolate presents before I give them and then I have to buy them again. Even if I hide them in the cupboard I know they are there and I just have to eat them!

@same4walls ds is always on the go and I'm knackered today so a bit worried if I stop I won't start again!

Ot started hailing so have postponed the sunflowers and instead went out and bought some bath slime, please pray for our pipes!

I'm bored shitless whilst also being frantic and exhausted!

This is absolutely me! So very very bored, yet stressed and procrastinating. I’m totally behind on some paperwork and stuff but just can’t be bothered to do it. Also keep spending money on hobbies which are blatantly not going to happen (I have 30 wooden eggs to paint before Easter, apparently).

I bought my mum a plant for Mother’s Day. Less tempting than brownie Grin.

We are still working on the garden, which basically means 3 year old helps build stuff (chicken coop today) with DH, while the baby and I sneakily get back to binging Castle...

Happy mother's day to us all!
Thank you so much to this thread for keeping me sane and for making me realise that parenting isn't always perfect and that it's ok to have off days! Flowers

MonkeyPuddle · 14/03/2021 08:33

Happy Mother’s Day to this lovely bunch of bloody wonderful women. I started the day at 2am by shouting DP through from the spare room to take non sleeping DD Grin that was my present to me!

The brownie up thread that I’ve bought for my mum, well DP had only gone and bought me one too! So we’ve all had a slice for breakfast.

PinkDaydreams · 14/03/2021 08:35

@MonkeyPuddle I'm made up you've also got a brownie!!!! I don't know how you remained so self controlled though not eating the original one!!

Motherofmonsters · 14/03/2021 08:39

Happy Mother's Day!! Glad you also got a brownie @monkeypuddle. DH is working this morning booo, he's off this week though so I'll be having my lie in tomorrow.

Same4Walls · 14/03/2021 08:40

Morning all and happy mothers day (aka when you have a small person a day just like any other).

We've been up since 5am! DS has decided sleep is optional and instead giving his vocal cords a workout is what pre dawn mornings are made for.

MonkeyPuddle I'm so pleased if not a little envious you got a brownie!!! Grin

Chocolatetrifle · 14/03/2021 08:54

Happy Mother's Day and Brownie day everyone! Need to go to Co-op for some brownies I think now!

Was also up from 2.30 for an hour with DS2.

Wine and Cake and Flowersfor us all, we are fabulous mums doing our best every day and deserve some peace time today, do you think we will get it?Smile

OhToBeASeahorse · 14/03/2021 09:27

Happy Mothers Day everyone. To us!

WeSearchedHereWeSearchedThere · 14/03/2021 10:12

Happy Mother’s Day you awesome lot!

@MonkeyPuddle I am made up that you got a brownie too, well done your DH!

DH gave me an actual lie in this morning, two hours where he developed the ability to keep the kids downstairs and quietish. May go to the garden centre later for plants. Seems fitting that I’ve turned in to my mother - always need more plants!

Happy Mother's Day Everyone! Flowers

DS2 woke us all up at 6am but I got two hand written/scribbled cards and a fancy breakfast so I'm happy. We're just off to drop DMs cards off and pick up DSs sand toys (left in her garden) and then this afternoon DH will take the DC to the park to play in the sandpit while I stay home and relax do housework

drumst1ck · 14/03/2021 15:50

Happy mother's day everyone! Being well looked after by DH today which is lovely. Also received an 'in sympathy' card as apparently all the mother's Day cards were sold out in Asda last night Grin

meow1989 · 14/03/2021 17:05

Happy mothers day! I got a lie in until 9am and some gin/chocolatea plus a coffee in bed and then we spent the day social distancing whilst exploring woodland - ds managed 4 miles before wanting carrying! I'm knackered and happy Grin

Anyone prefer to use ibuprofen over caplol? I've always used calpol save for ibuprofen for DS1's tonsillitis but today DS2 had temperatures which kept going up to 38.5, he's never had one that high before, screaming in pain and grunting. Called 111 and he was seen before by out of hours GP who was lovely and gave me antibiotics and a throat numbing spray for him. Not sure whether to use the ibuprofen or calpol, some say you can use both but seems a lot. Guess just watch the temperatures overnight and perhaps give him ibuprofen as his last calpol was 6pm. Any help much appreciated, he is settled finally and asleep x

Motherofmonsters · 14/03/2021 19:44

@chocolatetrifle I always find ibuprofen works on teeth much better than calpol. I tend to do both at the same time at the bedtime and then alternate z

Chocolatetrifle · 14/03/2021 19:50

@Motherofmonsters, ok thank you, will see how he gets on! Hope you've had a nice mother's day x

MonkeyPuddle · 14/03/2021 20:27

@Chocolatetrifle brufen is good at pain, swelling and fever. DS had to have calpol and brufen after his imms once so I could get his temp under control. Worked a treat.

MonkeyPuddle · 14/03/2021 20:30

Well ladies, here’s to us.

I hope your families have taken time to show you they appreciate you, be that in the form of a hug, kind words, card or some choccies.

I think we should take a second to appreciate ourselves, despite the relentlessness of motherhood, a pandemic, lockdown, our children thrive. They thrive because we love them. Ladies, we are wonderful, flawed humans, but we are doing such a good job.

Chocolatetrifle · 14/03/2021 20:58

@MonkeyPuddle, the ibuprofen neurofen seemed to perk him up more than the calpol earlier so I will give him that overnight if need be, it does seem to tackle throat pain better. Thank you for advice and also lovely words in your other message, so true 👍.

BertieBotts · 14/03/2021 21:05

I tend to give calpol for a fever and ibuprofen for anything involving inflammation. But if I'm worried about any tummy effects I will give calpol as it's gentler on the tummy.

Ibuprofen defo for teething esp overnight as it is longer acting - 6 hours rather than 4.

If I've already given one and they still seem to need more before the time is up I will give the other, you can overlap them like that. Just write down what you've done so you don't forget!

Chocolatetrifle · 14/03/2021 21:23

@BertieBotts, thanks for your thoughts. Yes I've written it down as the times just start jumbling up in my head otherwise. Hope you have had a lovely day x

MessAllOver · 14/03/2021 21:26

Happy Mother's Day, all! Hope everyone has Wine, Brew, Gin and/or Cake.

It's been a long slog, hasn't it? DH pointed out this morning that we're coming up to the anniversary of the first lockdown. So almost one whole year of Covid/lockdown/restrictions/walks/miserable wet picnics/isolation. I wonder how we'll look back on the past year? Sorry, reflective mood over Smile!
