Guys wearing vests??

Katie922 · 08/02/2021 13:19

DH is 28 and always wears a white sleeveless vest under his top. We had a FaceTime catch up with my sister a few days ago and she commented that she could see it which made DH blush! Is there really anything wrong with guys wearing vests under their clothes? DH has always worn them so I don't think anything of it....

Okay so it seems some think wearing a vest is weird after all, then Confused
It's not like he wears the ones with holes or anything! But these instead, which I think look really nice.

Even on the model they give me the ick.

candlemasbells · 08/02/2021 16:00

I think its great as it shows they are happy to put more layers on rather than turn up heating. I always were a vest. DP wears a t shirt under his shirt

Rillington · 08/02/2021 16:04

I've only ever seen old men wear vests.

I've never known a man to wear a vest. My husband wears Under Armour or Nike base layers though as he likes an extra layer under his work uniform.

Ihatesandwiches · 08/02/2021 16:40

DP suffers terribly from the cold and wears a vest under his shirt. He also has teddy bear fleece hoodie for when he gets in from work. Mid 40s. Very acceptable :-)

Still a nope from me

A grown man in a vest under his shirt would be a massive turn off for me. A grown man in a vest and boxers as nightwear - yeah that's okay. A grown man in a vest and shorts on the beach - not a problem.

Base layers are just another name for vests surely!

I find it a bit odd - my grandfathers both wore vests and would be 115 and 93 if they were still alive.

Trends and fashion come and go and then come back again. It's not odd Confused also, even if it's not high fashion, it's still not odd. Do you call women odd who aren't wearing the latest lines? Do you deem it odd to wear clothes simply for comfort rather than style?

that would give me the ick

Oh grow up! It's a simple white top. If that gives you the "ick" then you need to probably look no further than yourself.

Op, your sister is inappropriate and mean.

Lutwey · 08/02/2021 17:56

It's weird for your sister to comment, but it would remind me of Jersey Shore, apart from that addictively trashy show I've never seen aduts wear them, but I wouldn't tell him that!

Katie922 · 08/02/2021 18:04

I really didn’t know vests were so controversial! Maybe that’s why DH feels so conscious... But surely if not many people wear them, they wouldn’t be available to buy so easily

I would refer to a woman who was wearing a girdle, or something similarly old fashioned as making an odd choice, yes. Why wouldn’t I?

If I’m honest I do deem people who wear clothes purely for comfort a bit odd: pyjamas to the supermarket: yes. Dressing gown on a zoom call: yes. Vest on an adult man: yes.

I like clothes and I like style. I find people that claim to be above aesthetics tend to be terrible bores.

There is a massive difference between dressing for comfort and going out in pyjamas ffs.
What an utterly stupid example!

Peanutbutterblood · 08/02/2021 20:47

My husband wears vests, I've never thought it odd. Hes a farmer and needs plenty of layers. Atm hes in thermal tshirts

Hes got a different set for the summer, shearing vests for shearing sheep in and damn he looks sexy shearing sheep in them

20viona · 08/02/2021 20:48

Dear god no a vest is the pits.

WalkingMeAway · 08/02/2021 20:50

Only children and older men I know wear them so I would find it a bit odd. But not something I would comment on. Also odd.

woodhill · 08/02/2021 20:52

Ds and dh wear the short sleeve t-shirt type vests, Not keen on the sleeveless ones

Moonflower12 · 08/02/2021 21:43

My DP wears the short sleeved fitted vests. So he can keep warm hoiking patients off freezing motorways and the like. He also wears knee high socks.
I wear vests in the winter. The stretchy silky ones from M&S.

It makes sense to keep warm.

Howshouldibehave · 08/02/2021 21:47

I think of vests as being something that only small children and old men wear!

I’m amazed your sister could tell he was wearing a vest under his clothes on a Zoom call?!

He had on a white T shirt so I guess the shoulders and deep neck of his vest were visible below to her? Hate to think what she would have said if it was chest hair she could see instead!

They have to be short sleeved.

PegasusReturns · 09/02/2021 08:49

@Plonque you seem to be taking this rather personally, are you fond of hideous yet comfortable clothes? Grin

People wear pyjamas out because they’re comfortable, it’s the epitome of comfort over style and goes some way to explaining the boom in loungewear over the past few years.
