Correct to Bryan Adams. Not Cher, sorry.

The Bryan Adams one was No1 when I got married & it was playing on the radio as we drove to the Blacksmith's shop 😊

Is it Heart then?

Honeyroar · 14/02/2021 20:35

Did you get married at Gretna Coffee? It looks nice, we thought about it ourselves.

Honey - you light the skies up above me is Take that - Rule the world

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/02/2021 21:01

Correct to Heart 👍😊.

Yes we got married at Gretna. Had the official registry office ceremony followed by an Anvil Ceremony in the Blacksmith's shop. (It was before licences were issued to premises other than registry offices/churches). It was lovely. We were one of the last couples Jim "married" as he was retiring. He signed my copy of the book The History of Gretna Green. Lovely guy

Yes - was our first dance song. We chose it because we loved the film Stardust. Unfortunately the DJ then thought we were big Take That fans and played it all night (I’m really not!)
Honeyroar · 14/02/2021 21:06

That sounds lovely Coffee.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/02/2021 21:09

Thank you Honey, yes it was. We eloped so just us, Dh's db & sil.as our witnesses.

Honeyroar · 14/02/2021 21:12

Sounds like a stress free wedding! How did it go down with everyone else?

NeedToKnow101 · 14/02/2021 21:20

Ah that's lovely Coffee... 😍

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/02/2021 22:06

The actual wedding was stressless, coming back was a different story . . . .

To be fair, my dm was ok, a bit disappointed but she got over it. I've always just got on with things quietly. MiL was savage as was dh's sis, & my (rather spoilt) sis didn't speak to me for several weeks (every cloud . . . 😁). She was miffed she didn't get to be bridesmaid & made it all about her missing out.
We were originally going to have a traditional wedding at home but we had very little budget as had just bought our first house & associated costs had financially wiped us out. So we decided to elope. Invited dh's Db & Sil on a weekend away with us so they could arrange childcare, then sprung it on them a few days beforehand so they could take something nice to wear.
We all had a lovely time, a relaxing long weekend away & a wedding in the middle of it 😊.
I don't think Mil ever forgave me for dragging away her baby boy though.

How lovely. You were brave though! I’d not have dared.

We looked at Gretna as a possibility. We didn’t want a huge wedding either. As it happens we had a tiny day reception and most people as evening guests (Mumsnet faux pas!). We bought RockinRobbie horse with what we’d have spent on a big day do. He’s still with us years later!

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 14/02/2021 22:27

@CoffeeBeansGalore that's so romantic! And very sensible

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/02/2021 22:47

Thank you Honey, Dexter & NeedTK101 x

Honey it's lovely you've still got RockinRobbie 💕. My first husky was a wedding present 😁.

OP posts:
Honeyroar · 14/02/2021 23:04

Do you still have the first husky?

My other horse was a wedding reception too. I should’ve married someone else but found out he was cheating just before the wedding and it was all cancelled. With my share of the money for the wedding I bought my horse. She’s an old lady now, but my horse of a lifetime.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/02/2021 23:17

Honey, no, she went a long time ago. We lost her just before her 10th birthday to cancer. (We married in 1991). Lovely you still have your horse though. I love horses. Their eyes are so soulful, like giant dogs.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/02/2021 23:18

Honey what a shock for you though! But it sounds like you have a lovely dh now.

@CoffeeBeansGalore

Search your heart Search your soul And when you find me there You'll search no more 90s

It was a rainy night when he came into sight
Standing by the road, no umbrella, no coat
So I pulled up along side and I offered him a ride
He accepted with a smile so we drove for a while
90s

You don't even care about what I'm saying
You don't even think what you're doing
All you see is what you want it to be
There's just no room in there for me
80s

Like a loser's reach
Too slow and short to hit the peaks
Yeah, he's lost and alone
Yeah, you can stay home
90s

3rd one is texas. I don't want a lover. Sounds great with the volume cranked up to 11, the car windows down and me bellowing the lyrics with all my lung capacity!
CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/02/2021 23:32

Correct Rogue, and very true I imagine 🤣

(Is it really shit of me that I answered that before commenting on all the subsequent posts?)

Coffee, that's so romantic and lovely.

Honey, that must have been horrific at the time. Glad you've been able to move on.

MNerGoneRogueAgain · 14/02/2021 23:39

(I'm the world's worst singer coffee, but let's keep that as our little secret)

Has FlouncingB passed out gone again?

Drat her!

I had lyrics all ready for her to guess.
The windows of her coherence grow shorter as lockdown continues, I note. Subtitles my arse!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/02/2021 23:39

Not really Rogue. I tend to go through and answer in order (then realise someone has usually got it 😁)

OP posts:
MNerGoneRogueAgain · 14/02/2021 23:43

Is coffee the longest married? I was 1995, so she well beats me.

Incidentally, who were the January birthdays? I think there were 3????

I know needtoknow was one. Was flea another?

Who has a birthday coming up?

We really need midge to do a spreadsheet.

Mine is April.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/02/2021 23:43

I feel for FB. I can no longer read subtitles from the chair furthest from the tv. I must try and get an appointment for my eyes to be tested. I fear it may be time for glasses.

OP posts:
CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/02/2021 23:44

I have to remember a fair number of April birthdays, including dd2.
