Looking for something to watch with 17-year-old DD (and maybe DH). Would like something with a good storyline or maybe a really good comedy. Not really into fantasy stuff or historical dramas. TIA.

I recently loved Blown Away. But that’s a competition show, not a drama.

I love Call My Agent as well and because it's subtitles you feel it's also a little highbrow. My DH moaned about Emily In Paris as it's a very lightweight sort of series, but he loved it really. In both series we love the scenes of Paris and the bars, restaurants, busy streets...it's so lovely.

Thank you for all the recommendations! Have watched quite a lot of Modern Family, but not seen any of the others mentioned here (though I think DD may have seen Emily in Paris).

DS and I are new Modern Family viewers and loving it.
Queens Gambit was great.
Marcella has me gripped.

Have just finished Into the Night if you like thriller type!

Dec education is hilarious!

Another Superstore fan here.

Kim’s Convenience. It’s about a corner shop in Canada run by a Korean family. Really funny and great characters.

Following this!

Cobra Kai. You may need to watch all the Karate Kid films first though to get some of the references.

Another vote for Schitts Creek, so funny and easy to watch.
I loved This is Us, just truly lovely and life affirming at times, lots of feel good tears shed, funny at times too

PoptartPoptart · 06/02/2021 15:43

The Gilmore Girls on Netflix.
It was filmed about 10 years ago now (I was very late to the party!) but it’s brilliant.
It’s predominantly about a mother/daughter relationship and is easy watching, funny, heartwarming, just pure escapism in these dreary times.

chomalungma · 06/02/2021 15:47

On Season 4 of Schitt's Creek.

Very funny in a gentle way and love the character development

LadyOfTheCanyon · 06/02/2021 15:52

Another vote for Good Girls, Dead to me, Working Moms, Schitts Creek, Derry Girls, What we do in the shadows, Ozark,ZeroZeroZero, I may destroy you, Chewing Gum, After Life, Uncle...

Ghosts on iplayer is silly and funny and heartwarming. Back on C4 is David Mitchell and Robert Webb in a dark comedy. Man Down is hilarious, Upstart Crow I didn't think I'd like but I bloody love it.
King Gary, The reluctant landlord, Josh, Misfits, the This is England series...

There's so much good telly out there!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 06/02/2021 15:54

Balls sorry, got overexcited and forgot the Netflix element -not all of my suggestions are on there. Blush

Nuggetknuckles · 06/02/2021 16:01

Teen kids recommended watching The Walking Dead. Few uears old now but very addictive though, and ten series long! Quite believable for a zombie series! The odd "there's something in my eye moment" but great escapism.

Tiny Pretty Things

Set in an edgy ballet school in NY

StrawberryFizz26 · 06/02/2021 16:10

Cuckoo, The American Office, Schitts Creek, Suits

Raaaaaaarr · 06/02/2021 16:15

Schitt's Creek!

KasparKat · 06/02/2021 16:15

Tiny Pretty Things has lots of gratuitous sex scenes! Depends if you want to watch that with your teens...

Suzi888 · 06/02/2021 16:18

Ozark and Snowfall, loved Bridgerton but might be a bit racy to watch as a family!
Love Grace and Frankie too, might be more appropriate viewing.

ihearttc · 06/02/2021 17:13

@KasparKat

Yes it has, I forgot about that. I don’t think it’s any worse than other stuff 17 year olds could be watching but I appreciate it’s not for everyone.

Davros · 06/02/2021 17:36

For subtitle lovers, look for Balloon on iPlayer and Deutschland '83 and '86.
