Is this weird?

Last year I unexpectedly lost DH. I still wear my engagement ring, wedding ring and eternity ring daily. A few weeks ago I was doing a lot of diy and I took them of so they didn't get damaged or lost. Why I wasn't wearing them I felt like something was missing and as soon as I had finished doing the work I was doing I put them all back on. I worry that people find it strange that I am still wearing my rings as normal but I find it strange not wearing them. Would you find it strange if someone you knew was still wearing their wedding ring over a year after their husband/wife passed away?

No

justaweeone · 01/02/2021 22:31

Not at all

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 01/02/2021 22:32

Not strange at all. So sorry for your loss. Thanks

welliwasntexpectingthat · 01/02/2021 22:32

Definitely not, no, you wear them.

Eggsley · 01/02/2021 22:32

I'm so sorry for your loss Thanks

I wouldn't think it strange at all. My grandma wore her wedding ring until she died, 13 years after my grandpa died.

mrsbyers · 01/02/2021 22:32

Absolutely not , wear them as long as you like

moochoom · 01/02/2021 22:32

No, not at all. My mum still wears her rings and my dad passed 8 years ago.

thebabessavedme · 01/02/2021 22:33

perfectly normal to keep wearing them, for the rest of your life if you wish - they were given with love, they are special to you.

I would find it most odd if anyone was to question why you are still wearing them.

PrawnCorset · 01/02/2021 22:35

Sorry for your loss, OP. My grandmother outlived my grandfather by forty years, and wore her wedding ring till she died.

CloveCarnation · 01/02/2021 22:37

No, of course I wouldn't think it was strange Flowers

Embroideredstars · 01/02/2021 22:41

Of course it isn't weird. Whilst I can't imagine the situation you're in I can't envisage ever wanting to take mine off if I was. It's no one's business whether you wear them or don't (it's fine if people want to remove them too after bereavement) do what is right for you Flowers

KeepWashingThoseHands · 01/02/2021 22:43

Sorry for your loss. Flowers This sounds very usual to me.

Thank you for all your responses. No one I am close to have mentioned anything about it, it's just me overthinking especially during lockdown when I say I am a single parent critical work so DD can still go to school, I can see people look at my ring finger and assume because I am married I'm not a single parent

Not strange at all. I can't get mine off! But I wouldn't want to, anyway. DH gave them to me, and they're so precious.

So sorry for your loss.

LadyJaye · 01/02/2021 22:54

Absolutely not strange at all.

My father died 23 years ago, and my mother still wears her wedding ring.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 01/02/2021 22:54

My dad passed away when I was 16. My mum's always worn hers and I'm 42 now. I thought that was the norm

MrsEricBana · 01/02/2021 23:12

Oh gosh no, I'd be surprised if you didn't wear them. I'm very sorry for your loss.

AnnaSW1 · 01/02/2021 23:15

No not at all

tsmainsqueeze · 01/02/2021 23:36

Not at all weird and nobody's business anyway !
My dads gone and my moms rings are always on her fingers, he's not here anymore but she is still married to him in her heart .

8obbingabout · 01/02/2021 23:41

Sorry for your loss OP. This is not weird at all. I think its nice and I would do the exact same thing. Keep wearing them for as long as you like.

DramaAlpaca · 01/02/2021 23:44

It's not strange at all. In fact I think it would be a little strange if you didn't wear them.

Wishitsnows · 01/02/2021 23:45

Not strange at all. So sorry for your loss

Pipandmum · 01/02/2021 23:48

I wore my wedding ring for seven years after my husband passed away. If I was older and not interested in another relationship I'd probably wear them still (I was 47 when he died). Now I wear them on my right hand pinky and wear my husbands wedding ring on my left thumb so he's always with me. But I felt that though I'm not actively looking, I didn't want to have people assume I was married and unavailable.

CorianderBee · 01/02/2021 23:48

I'd still wear them.

WhenAWrenVisits · 01/02/2021 23:49

No it wouldn’t surprise me if you wore them for years totally up to you.
