My stepson is in his final year, but has just applied to do postgrad Mexico so will be another theee or four years if he gets on. He hadn’t had a single live lecture or tutorial yet this year, despite only having a few months left of his degree. Doesn’t seem bothered!

I think deferring was a good move too. DSS says if he’d have been locked down with his first year housemates he’d have dropped out! If your daughter is going to Manchester or Leeds we’re definitely in reach for a walk/bacon butty.

It was the making of him really, very half hearted about college but he's been very motivated about work and much improved confidence . He's finished his apprenticeship year and they've taken him on full time .

Slipping into work mode for a second, I think us lot (people of our generation) are among the luckiest in this. Even if it doesn't feel like it sometimes. But it's shit for our DC, who are - rightfully - expecting the world to be their oyster.

But for us, our DC, if in education shouldn't need too much supervision. Unlike parents of kids in primary.
And parents of DC with very young children who are literally not getting a break with kids at an age/stage where they need entertainment 24/7. That's so, so hard.
I think I said on the lsdt thread, I work in primary schools and mostly liaise with parents. One of my schools is a faith school where their faith doesn't allow contraception. Not uncommon to have 4, 5, 6 DC.
That would drive you insane, wouldn't it. Some if my families are inadequately housed. No garden. Kids sharing bedrooms. Not enough devices.

Some of them are finding life so hard.

No wonder I drink!
