Suggest me toppings for toast please :)

So I recently seem to have developed an appetite for lunches involving crunchy toast with toppings. It’s got to be gluten free so slightly restricted in terms of what bread but have found seeded GF bread I can tolerate ....

So what toppings to have in fridge for it which will fill me up for lunch whilst WFH?

Today I had smoked bacon pâté and loved it!

What else?!

I tend to like sharp, salty, garlicky, spicy flavours!

If I have leftover dhal I reduce it down so it’s quite dry then blitz a bit, stir in some mango chutney and spread on toast.

I had buckwheat toast today topped with avocado, pomegranate seeds and sunflower seeds today. Was delicious

Scrambled egg on top of the buttered toast, grated cheese on top of the egg and baked beans on top of the cheese so that it melts. Easy, simple and yummy

Black eyed pea hummus - never seen it in shops but there are lots of recipes online.

I make a sort of pate which is butter beans, sundried tomato, salt, thyme and lemon juice. Lovely on sourdough

Cheddar cheese, ground black pepper and hot horseradish sauce.

My favourites are Boursin cheese, cheddar and worcestershire sauce, poached eggs with chilli flakes and avocado, butter and ham (yes seriously!) and spaghetti hoops and cheese. I think I have a cheese problem 😂

My absolute fav (and very middle class) is:

Sourdough, toasted and rubbed with a garlic clove, and a spread of butter. Topped with cannelini beans mixed with truffle oil and chopped avocado. If you’re feeling fancy you can add a sprinkling of feta.

It’s a posh beans on toast.

Grilled tomatoes and Marmite on toast. Yummy !

I like tuna Mayo it tinned mackerel in to stow sauce, warm the mackerel in a own and pour over buttered toast. Mushrooms cooked in garlic and herb Philadelphia...

Peanut butter, celery and raisins plus a good grind of salt

Mashed avo with shredded cabbage and peppers, lime juice and sriracha

Cheese, onion and sliced peppers with sriracha mayo (I nuke it for a minute to get it melty)

When I was a kid, my absolute favourite treat was mashed banana on buttered toast.

I make a tuna mix with tuna, good mayonnaise, finely chopped celery and onion, finely chopped red capsicum, salt & pepper. The celery gives it a good crunch.

If I have pate on toast I 'butter' the toast with tomato paste/puree first..gives it a nice bite yum

Veggie/ vegan foie gras (the Bosh recipe is really good)

Humous on toast with thickly cut tomatoes and lots of s&p

And this one is a bit trashy but I bloody love it, lashings of butter or mayo topped with mushy peas!

Reading this thread is keeping me going today amidst the doom surrounding us. I promise to try every single topping suggested over the next many weeks of lockdown. Thank you so much

I miss heinz cheese and ham toast topper. It was my absolute favourite comfort food. I am still so sad that it was discontinued.

I was coming on to say just that. Toast Toppers were a standard lunch of my early 80s childhood. Even though I've been vegetarian for the past 25 years, I'd still smash a cheese and ham Toast Topper if they were still available.

Not spicy but so nice, crunchy peanut butter+lime marmalade..

Forgot another goodie: chickpea "tuna" salad - basically smashed chickpeas with mayo, peppers, celery, onion, sriracha or whatever else you'd put in a tuna salad sandwich.

If you're extremely lazy (like me), and can't wait 45 minutes for a pizza delivery, you can make a pretty decent pizza substitute by nuking cheese on toast with your favourite pizza toppings.
