Suggest me toppings for toast please :)

So I recently seem to have developed an appetite for lunches involving crunchy toast with toppings. It’s got to be gluten free so slightly restricted in terms of what bread but have found seeded GF bread I can tolerate ....

So what toppings to have in fridge for it which will fill me up for lunch whilst WFH?

Today I had smoked bacon pâté and loved it!

What else?!

I tend to like sharp, salty, garlicky, spicy flavours!

Thanks for ideas (last date to edit grocery order is tonight so I will gratefully and promptly enact your suggestions by logging on to grocery account!)

I came on to say pâté, I see you've got that one coveredGrin
I also like coleslaw & cheese!

Slices of apple with cheese on top then under the grill 'til it bubbles...

A french friend taught me this trick: toast your seed bread then rub a raw clove of garlic over it. Add Ardennes paté and chopped cornichons.

Gentleman's Relish

Cream cheese topped with sour black cherry jam

Layer of ham spread with mustard, topped with cheese, back under the grill till cheese bubbles

Sliced cooked sausage & tomato relish

Smoked salmon pâté

Sardines mashed with some chopped preserved lemon

Tapenade, good on its own, or with tinned tune, or sliced tomatoes, or feta cheese, or sliced hard boiled egg

Rollmop or marinaded herrings, drained & chopped then mixed with plain yoghurt or sour cream plus herbs or whole grain mustard.

I miss heinz cheese and ham toast topper. It was my absolute favourite comfort food. I am still so sad that it was discontinued.

Thanks OP for this thread and the comments... because of this I have just made garlic confit! Unfortunately I didn’t have a smaller jar... I’m going to make some for gifts - put some thyme in with some peppercorns. Chuffed!

Roasted garlic with olives, sundried tomatoes and feta. Avocado and bacon. Mushrooms. Toasted cheese with chilli. Fried egg. Smoked salmon and cream cheese. Brie and spinach.

Baba ganoush

Any type of pate - but my favourite is chicken liver with spiced onion marmalade.

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's tartiflette toastie - basically potatoes, cheese and bacon/ham on toast.

LOVE the homemade butter bean / smoked mackerel pate ideas!

purplecorkheart · 04/01/2021 18:34

OP just curious about the smoked bacon pate? Is this something that can be bought or did you make it? If you did can I ask for the recipe please, it sounds yum. Thanks

Changechangychange · 04/01/2021 18:38

More breakfast than lunch, but tahini with honey is amazing. Like massively upgraded peanut butter. You need the honey, it’s too “dry” otherwise, but with the honey it is so amazing.

Snozzlemaid · 04/01/2021 18:43

Not a suggestion for you but I inadvertently had cranberry sauce on my toast this morning.
Have some Christmas jam in the fridge which I meant to use but picked up the cranberry sauce instead without noticing.
After spreading it all on dp commented on how interesting it was to have cranberry sauce on toast.
Was too late by that stage so I ate it. Was quite nice actually.

Puffalicious · 04/01/2021 18:51

Peanut butter and sliced banana. Divine. NB Also divine on oatcakes for more crunch- DH has these for breakfast every work day (a man of routine!).

BorderlineHappy · 04/01/2021 18:55

Marmite and marmalade

Butter the toast first, spread the marmite and top with marmalade.
