Why?? Charity work we are unaware of perhaps?

@GrumpyHoonMain - thanks - that's really decent of him 😊
I don't know much about him so appreciate the info

snowisfallingallaroundus · 31/12/2020 21:39

@TeachesOfPeaches

David beckham hasn't received one because the queen doesn't like tax dodgers so wonder if Lewis Hamilton tax affairs check out. The queen also apparently hates Tony Blair because of the Diana death saga so now can't give any to former PMs without drawing attention to this. She quite likes Gordon Brown and Theresa May so I hear.

Hear from who? Prince Phillip Wink

DangoDays · 31/12/2020 21:44

Yes @TheNextChapter. Completely agree.

@GypsyLee

Lots of people who aren't famous and rich to begin with do charity work. Maybe they should record a load of tripe then they too could get recognised. What a load of bollocks.
And lots of those people are also recognised - have you actually read the list. Anyone can be nominated and receive an honour.

Don't undermine the incredible work and recognition of many wonderful 'ordinary' people just because you dislike the occasional honoured celeb.

And this thread shows that even those honoured celebs that people are criticising have probably done more for charity than many of the posters sitting at home slagging them off 🤷‍♀️

I totally agree Veterinari

My dh grandad got one for his work as a mill manager, fair and lovely man.
Another of his relatives drove the first tram out of Blackpool.
It's great to see wc people receive honours.
The pictures take pride of place on our unit. Thanks

Shame then that you decided to slag off recipients and their work as a 'load of old tripe' and 'untalented wannabes'

Or is it just your family that are deserving of recognition? Confused

Craig David is another one who does a lot of charity work but you won’t ever hear of it because he’s private about it.

But wouldn't accepting an honour for it rather blow the gaff on his desire to be private about it? I have much greater respect for rich famous people who do do charitable work and give privately; if you make a big song and dance about it, you're not actually donating but just buying yourself good PR.

What about Marcus rashford ...or have i missed something ?

Gingaaarghpussy · 31/12/2020 23:11

My maternal grandfather got an MBE. He was the manager of Euston Station for yonks and met the Queen on one of her train jaunts. He had retired when he got it.

PompomDahlia · 31/12/2020 23:34

Craig David has been really influential in UK garage - a homegrown music form. He's been around for 20 years now and has done a lot of charity work too

nosswith · 01/01/2021 08:22

Thank you to those who have said about Craig David's charity work, which I was unaware of. When I mentioned it on a work Zoom call yesterday, there were looks and comments of incredulity from those aware of Craig David's music.

I'm really pleased to hear about Craig David and Lewis Hamilton's charity work. I don't follow celebrity type news, so rarely recognise names or faces. It's good to know there's reason behind the honours.

I was irritated by a headline which pictured three people, named the two men (lewis and Craig) but not the woman.

Backbee · 01/01/2021 08:47

He recieved an MBE in the queen's birthday honours, I don't think you can receive the same one twice, but down the line it wouldn't surprise me if he recieved a higher accolade for his endeavours.

Agree.

Let's all just re-ee-wind.

I am so pleased for Marcus Rashford.

Kinda pleased he's got the MBE and not straight in with a higher honour (which I'm sure will happen in good time), knowing the tendency of some parts of the media to knock em down if they think someone has been built up too fast.

Craig David, I'm not a particular fan of his music but I think the fact he has been resilient and gracious in the face of the Bo Selecta stuff that could have easily been the end of his credibility speaks really well of him. Also he was one of the biggest faces of UK Garage which has given rise to a lot of genres of music popular now, dubstep and grime etc. So he might not be the coolest these days but he's done a lot, plus sounds like a lot of charity work, good for him.

Elderflower14 · 01/01/2021 19:59

Has anyone mentioned that the wonderful Singing Hands ladies were awarded an MBE for services to SN education?
I cried when I found out yesterday morning.. These red ladies as ds2 calls them have done so much to promote Makaton and I couldn't be happier for them both! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

user1471462428 · 01/01/2021 21:29

I think Craig David is great but you know, some people don’t wanna compromise Grin

Crinkle77 · 01/01/2021 21:54

@Janaih

I'm no fan of his music but he seems like a nice bloke and works hard. That bo selecta nonsense could have ruined him but he kept cheerfilly plugging away and is hugely successful. Anyone who shows resilience in this day and age gets a gold star from me.
He takes himself so seriously though!
