Why?? Charity work we are unaware of perhaps?

There is an agency you can pay money to to get a Knighthood, MBE etc
They coach you and put you forward to the panel that decides who gets which gong.

Whenever I hear of some singer/actor/footballer etc that has been honoured in the New Years list, that hasn't been in the public eye in decades I just assume they used that agency.

It's all pointless, really. I fail to see why some of the current Knights of the UK received their gongs. They can cite 'charity' work but not one of these entertainers built their career for the good of the country or the citizens of the UK, or for services to music, acting, sport etc.
They did it for themselves and the fame and the money so why reward them even more when there are so many deserving citizens of the country who do great selfless work every day?

I will never forget the grinning, smug, nasty expression on LH face when he sprayed a giant bottle of champagne right in the face of some poor podium girl after he had won a race. Vile.
That's aside from tax dodging and buying himself a 16.5 million pound jet instead.

@nutmegofconsolation2 no he hasn't he is desperate for one! The queen dislikes him and it is causing real issues as there is now a backlog of former PMs who haven't received theirs. Every PM before Blair did.

I'm no fan of his music but he seems like a nice bloke and works hard. That bo selecta nonsense could have ruined him but he kept cheerfilly plugging away and is hugely successful. Anyone who shows resilience in this day and age gets a gold star from me.

Lewis is one of the best racers of all time. Lots of charity work and uses his platform increasingly to support BLM.

Lots of people who aren't famous and rich to begin with do charity work.

I was surprised that Chris Whitty and JVT weren't on the list. I doubt if they've had a day off since March.

We're too much in the middle of it still. And the decisions were probably made months ago when we were even further from the end.

They give honours out like toffees nowadays. Why anyone accepts them is beyond me, especially anyone of colour, given what the British Empire did to many parts of the world. I admire Benjamin Zephaniah hugely for turning his down.

I'm a bit 👀 about Lewis Hamilton as I'd heard he lives abroad in a tax Haven so he doesn't pay taxes in the UK-0perhaps this isn't correct though?

LH voluntarily pays millions in tax. Is silently involved in a lot of charity work for poor children and works with charities that aim to reduce gang violence in and around Luton and Bedfordshire. He’s also the reason why Red Bull gives apprenticeships to talented children who otherwise wouldn’t have a hope of becoming a race car engineer - they send kids to uni and everything

Craig David is another one who does a lot of charity work but you won’t ever hear of it because he’s private about it. I’m not as close to it as I am with LH’s charity work but you can easily google it

pretty much every ex f1 driver who has recived honours has lived outside the UK for tax reasons so dont know why lewis hamilton is being hounded about about this

Craig David is a lovely bloke who has quietly plugged away for years, done loads of work for charity and has always behaved impeccably. I'm really pleased for him.

I actually thought Craig David was a footballer too... I remember the face but not much else. One of many "meh" pop culture figures from the noughties or whenever it was .I think David Bowie had the right idea about honours.

If Lewis Hamilton gets it for services to formula one, Jonathan Rea should have been knighted as well then, World Superbike champion 6 years in a row. He doesn't even get nominated for Sports Personality of The Year.

@Cocolapew while I see what you're saying, the platform a sport has surely makes a difference here or we'd be knighting tiddlywinks champions. Formula 1 has a much bigger profile, it is one of the most watched sports in the world.
