Is the wind keeping anyone else awake?

Loads of things blowing around outside so keep waking baby DS :(
Not that I can sleep, I keep getting woken up every five minutes by the noise. I always forget how loud wind can be

Yes, Cornwall here and I don’t think I’ve ever heard it this bad. 5 year old DC has already woken up once, surprised she’s managed to drop back off. DH happily snoring away next to me without a care in the world Angry

I usually like bad weather at night but this is ridiculously noisy, I don’t think I’ve got a hope in hell of sleeping!

Justa47 · 27/12/2020 01:44

In Surrey and it very windy and horrid outside

Justa47 · 27/12/2020 01:45

@Cathster

Me neither

It's wild.

waltzingparrot · 27/12/2020 02:05

Yep. I live backing onto a wood and the trees are going mental, bashing into each other.

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 27/12/2020 02:12

Yes, but in my case it's indigestion! Too much rich food over the last couple of days.
Will be eating plain crackers and water for the rest of the day!
The wind is howling outside and the rain lashing down. Have just seen a text message that dh 's covid test was negative, which means we could go for a walk now. No idea how feasible that will really be.

Somemeht · 27/12/2020 02:20

Cornwall here as well, we check the weather 20 several times a day on a good day, for beach walks/tides so luckily I put the bins away after lunch and we set up a blow up bed in the lounge for DC, and I'm on the sofa.

If we had stayed upstairs it would sound like the roof was going to blow away.

I woke up as I needed the loo, which leads to tea & toast Hmm

Nanasplit · 27/12/2020 02:26

I'm awake too. Sounds like the guttering is going to get ripped off. Don't think I have any chance of sleeping. So annoying as it feels like it will ruin a well-earned day off tomorrow!

fafffdri12 · 27/12/2020 02:31

I read this and thought "oh yeah I forgot about the storm but I can't hear anything must not be bad here" ... then half way through reading the posts it just suddenly erupted outside at the windows !!! Very strange! Very loud too. Weve just had new roofs on all our houses on our estate so feeling a bit safer at least than before.

dappledsunshine · 27/12/2020 02:33

Yes noisy here too (south east) and I need to be up for work in about 4 hours 🙄

joystir59 · 27/12/2020 02:40

NorthEast Coast here and the rain is lashing down now. I'm awake because the brand new flat roof of the basement extension has sprung a leak!!!!

PhilCornwall1 · 27/12/2020 02:54

Given up trying to sleep. It's beyond windy here now and the rain is hammering down.

I can't understand how my wife is sleeping through it, so have left her to it and made coffee.

Gothamgirl1970 · 27/12/2020 03:01

Me and it is also teeming rain

Nomoresleeps · 27/12/2020 03:14

Yes it’s horrendous here (South Wales) and it’s woken me up.

I checked the forecast and it will be heavy rain till 5am and windy till 8am.

PhilCornwall1 · 27/12/2020 03:55

Apparently, the wind is gusting at 61mph here at the moment (not me!!). I can believe it too.

Our front room window is flexing like a bugger.

Nanasplit · 27/12/2020 04:03

I still haven't got to sleep yet. Its not getting any quieter!

EmmanuelleMakro · 27/12/2020 04:35

Woken by the wind about a hour ago and been pissing about on FB since then...☹️Have a boat moored on the river nearby and resisting the temptation to look at its CCTV - of it has come loose nothing I can do about it now...

Mintjulia · 27/12/2020 04:47

No but the hammering rain on plastic windowsills is. I hadn't noticed before but heavy rain and hollow window sills are really loud. Smile

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 27/12/2020 04:51

Yep and I've eaten a whole packet of charcoal biscuits and that has had no effect.

I may have to try the BBQ briquettes next but that means going outside to the shed and it is quite stormy out there at the moment.

squiddybear · 27/12/2020 05:12

Yes and next doors bloody electric box is not locked and keeps slamming into the wall. It's woken the whole house up more than once. We're not on good enough terms to go and shut it though!

catinb00tz · 27/12/2020 05:33

Kent here. The wind is crazy. And the dog just did a poo on the stairs because she didn't want to go outside. So that was nice for me to clear up at 5am Grin

actiongirl1978 · 27/12/2020 05:35

Yes I was up with DS who had bad tummy at 2.30am, got back to sleep at 3.30.puppy woke for the day at 5am and now I'm sitting with the puppy in the cold and dark as we have no power now either!

SSE weren't aware of it until I called but then said other calls were coming in from the village so they would register it and update later.

Thank goodness we have wood burning stove for heat. Hope it isn't too long though my fridge and freezer are full of food which will go off Confused

RudolphToldRedNoseNotSymptom · 27/12/2020 05:49

actiongirl1978 That's awful. All the Christmas food! Don't open the fridge door and it might keep cool for longer.

I've been awake since 4am with the stupid wind and rain.

Roselilly36 · 27/12/2020 05:58

It’s awful here, south coast, been storm force winds all night, and still bad now, I have been awake from just before 5am, looking forward to daylight, storms never seem quite as scary then.

actiongirl1978 · 27/12/2020 06:02

@RudolphToldRedNoseNotSymptom thanks!

I am keeping the fridge closed and we have torches and candles. Still I'd like the puppy to go back to sleep so I can go back to bed!
