And how do they compare to previous years?

We are in tier 4 so same as yesterday just the two of us having a chilled out weekend till back to work on tuesday

I’m enjoying it more than yesterday to be honest. Baby’s first Christmas and whilst it was lovely I just felt a bit stressed and had a banging headache all day.

Early start as usual with baby but we opened a couple of presents that I’d kept back as it was all a bit much yesterday. Then DH cooked the fancy smoked salmon and scrambled eggs we’d planned for yesterday but never got round to between presents and video calls to family. He brought it to me in bed whilst I ‘supervised’ the baby’s nap.

We’re now up but still in pyjamas, drinking endless cups of tea, half watching The Queen’s Gambit and playing with baby. We’ll probably venture out for a walk at some point and then have leftovers for tea.

Would normally be with family, whichever side we didn’t see the day before. Boxing Day is also when I lost my mum so it’s always a bit sad, but as the years have gone on I’ve realised that it’s no tribute to her to spend the day miserable, and this year I know she’d be furious if she thought I was wasting time being sad when I could be enjoying time with my long awaited DD, so I’m trying to remember her but smile too.

We went to park early so dd1 could try out her new skateboard . Came back had hot chocolate and I tried to find homes for some of the presents . Having a buffet lunch and then going to try and work out some of the other presents like led lights .

Doing what we want and eating/drinking what we want, when we want! We did it for the first time last year and it was such a lovely lazy day - the DC from time to time during the year asked to do "Boxing Day" again Grin

Eg we are normally strict about screen time, have to eat breakfast before sweets etc - all those rules are out the door today. DC2 (6) ate a bag of twiglets for breakfast and is playing on the iPad. I am going to have a lovely hot bath later - using my new bath pillow - and will bring in the laptop so I can watch a programme with a glass of fizz and some chocolate.

We usually do a second Christmas Day with whichever side of the family we didn't see yesterday. Today we are staying at home as a foursome, watching some Christmas films and tucking into a cold buffet later which I much prefer to another Christmas dinner! I have loungewear and baileys and will browse some online sales for some house stuff I really want.

Lie in, followed by coffee & breakfast made by DP. Turkey sandwiches for lunch followed by a country walk.

Football on the TV later, then another roast with all the leftovers. I’m making a Pavlova. Board games or a film with wine, gin & chocolate before bed.

First day of tier 4 for us. Home all day, me, DH and 2 x DC. Having cold cuts and mash for lunch and I’m definitely opening the pickled onions. Much more relaxed than yesterday. I’ve done two loads of washing and it’s out on the line .

Lazy day in pjs in front of the tv. Yesterday was MANIC. A newborn a 2 year old, my PIL who just sat on my couch, so I spent my day in the kitchen, and I am full of cold. The house was a bomb site so it got a tidy up this morning by DH while I managed the kids. Both DH and I hit our 10,000 steps yesterday without leaving the house. I am sticking to my couch like glue today.

Why has nobody ever mentioned to me how hard and busy Christmas is with two kids?

badlydrawnbear · 26/12/2020 13:05

Listening to my DC argue over each other’s new toys and cry over Lego pieces they have already lost. Wondering where on earth all these toys live. Buying DC new coats in the online sales. Later, taking DC2 out to try out her new scooter as she is now out of self-isolation, sadly DC1’s school COVID contact was on the last day of term so she has to stay in until next week.

Relaxing today.
I was working yesterday so the mobile is on do not disturb today.
I've put the turkey leftovers in the freezer, fed the birds (vitally important at this time of year) and put the washing on.
Next job is another cup of tea, then ironing, followed by sorting the Tesco order.
Dinner for tonight is Thai Chicken curry with a few glasses of red wine. We'll attack the cheeseboard later.

Nowaynothappening · 26/12/2020 13:37

Just cleaning and eating cheese and chocolate tbh. We never do anything particularly special on Boxing Day, I think we went to Wagamama last year which we can’t do this year. Shame but I won’t lose any sleep.

SweetMeadow · 26/12/2020 13:39

What a lovely tribute to your Mum AliasGrape. Congratulations on your sweet baby and I hope you are having a relaxing day - it sounds lovely! Flowers
