And how do they compare to previous years?

OP posts:
ramblingsonthego · 26/12/2020 10:29

We have spent the morning tidying up and in a little while going to my mums for a buffet (she is in our bubble as a single adult household) that we are taking with us. Then home for an early night as our pre schooler is so tired and over stimulated from all the excitement.

Tana433 · 26/12/2020 10:32

Bacon buttys to start. Long bath with my new book and then watching football for the rest of the day with a buffet thrown in at some point. To be fair, Boxing day is usually peaceful for us anyway so not really different this year.

NeedWineNow · 26/12/2020 10:55

Boxing Day is usually spent driving to family lunch and then dropping Mum back home. Today it's just me and DH. He's just had a shower , then it will be brekkie, tv, lunch, more tv etc... I've just ordered some vintage serving dishes to match the one I bought in Rye in the summer (I've been looking for another one since then) and might have an online browse of the sales later. I'd normally get my Christmas cards and wrapping in the January sales but as we're Tier 4 i can't see that happening. I've got all my cardmaking stuff up in the loft, so perhaps I'll make 2021 the year when I dig it all out again and make my cards rather than buying them.

DS up early to play fortnite with his cousin on the other side of the world.

Lazy morning for me but just about to get ready to go and drop of a dessert I made for a friend yesterday and then on to a local woodland for a walk for an hour just to get out of the house.

Another roast for lunch, mainly with leftovers from yesterday with a few extra bits then I’ll turn the rest of the turkey into a stew/soup to have with dumplings tomorrow and Monday.

This afternoon we will try and engage DS in a board game or a family game of Mario cart or whatever on his new Nintendo and then later we are having a movie night in bed.

Cannot be arsed with any of it this year. I just want it over with

Rockbird · 26/12/2020 10:58

Still sort of in bed. Boxing Day is usually a second Christmas Day with in laws but we haven't seen any family this year so lounging around, playing with new stuff, watching tv and constant snacking is on the cards here, ending with a long phone call to my parents who we should have been with yesterday.

superram · 26/12/2020 11:01

We normally have a big party and stay up singing karaoke (we invite the neighbours). Should have been going skiing in France this year. Staying in and tidying my house..... not quite the same.

delilahbucket · 26/12/2020 11:05

No different for us. DS always goes to his dad's so we have just had leftover salmon for brunch and will be embarking on our annual leg stretch shortly before having Christmas dinner round two later.

Eggsley · 26/12/2020 11:07

DH is setting up Alexas in the DCs' rooms and has just set up DS1's tv. DS1 is up there helping. DS2 is playing with Mario toys he got yesterday and I'm about to help him set up his Mario Lego which he's very excited about. We'd usually be at PIL today, that was the plan until the rules changed. They have just driven 20 miles to drop off an egg-free chocolate cake that they'd ordered for me (I can't have eggs) and it looks amazing. I can't wait to get stuck in!

The rest of today will be chilled out - leftover turkey sandwiches for lunch then party food type stuff for dinner in front of a Christmas film. A bit of tidying. Some wine later on. Another film for me and DH. It's been a crazy busy year at work so I'm grateful for some time off to spend with DH and DC.

Meruem · 26/12/2020 11:26

Lie in bed, nap, lie in bed some more, transfer to sofa at some stage! It’s been a full on week and I’m knackered!

Most boxing days are the same for me. Although last year I was in Japan on Boxing Day so very different to this year! May play our new board game again with DC’s later. We’re all really into it. Eat some nice food and maybe an alcoholic drink or two.

MegaClutterSlut · 26/12/2020 11:31

Normally we would have the in laws round for the whole day playing games with loads of food and getting mil pissed

This year we're lounging around, probably play some games. Do a buffet for dinner and maybe a couple of drinks

MrsDThomas · 26/12/2020 11:37

I hate boxing day. No family to see, dh and the kids love the football so i end up leaving the house for 2/3 hours walking.

Ive always found boxing day boring since i was a kid.

Cam2020 · 26/12/2020 11:38

Sod all, like most years! I love a quiet Boxing Day. Christmas day is lovely, but so busy. Boxing day, I get to sit around in PJs and eat choccy gifts, and leftovers.

Last year involved a lot of hospital visits over the whole chrismtas period (and way beyond), so I'm glad to not to be doing that!

ShinyGreenElephant · 26/12/2020 11:40

DH has just made us all a huge breakfast, I'm now lying on the couch eating the rejects from the kids selection boxes. DD11 is still fast asleep, step kids are fighting over a toy which belongs to DD2 who is brushing all her teddy's teeth with her new toothbrush. We will bake mince pies later since we never got round to it on Christmas eve and we have all the stuff.

Since this year is DHs family's turn for Christmas day we should be spending Boxing Day with my side but obviously that's not allowed now which is really crap. Will go for a walk with my parents one day over the weekend but its not the same.

Susiesue61 · 26/12/2020 11:48

I worked yesterday and was on call overnight. So chilling today in front of the football once the cricket has finished, and then DD tells me we're getting drunk later 😊

HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 26/12/2020 11:50

DDs1&2 will be home today, they've been at ExHs for a few days, so today is my Christmas Day with them. DD3 is excited to watch her sisters open their presents. ExMIL is sending leftovers, so no cooking needed Grin

So far me and DD3 have watched The Grinch and made slime.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 26/12/2020 11:59

We are having our Christmas gathering today, so 2 other households coming over, I’ve made slow cooker beef dip and pork, chicken curry, and loads of picky food.

Currently having 10 mins before the mayhem starts.

kitschplease · 26/12/2020 12:00

Looks like the DC (and DH) will be playing Nintendo all day, so I'm back in bed with coffee, pastries and my new book. Bliss!
Rest of the day plans involve eating, playing board games and doing some yoga.
Have put a wash on and made hair and eyebrow appointments for next week so even feeling productive.

Duggeehugs82 · 26/12/2020 12:00

MirandaMarple · 26/12/2020 12:01

Roast potatoes, cold turkey 'thumb bits' and baked beans lunch (DH's childhood tradition) snooze, sitting, cheese and biscuits feast in the evening with some very good red wine and Call the Midwife on catch up.

winterbabythistime · 26/12/2020 12:02

Feeding the 3 week old baby and trying to give my 4yo some attention. Dh is playing with him but he just wants me. Haven't been able to put the baby down for 2 hours now.
Tired

keepmeawayfromthesherry · 26/12/2020 12:03

Lazy day too here. I'm trying to perfect the ultimate vegan Yorkshire puddings so have a recipe currently waiting to go in the oven - my ones yesterday were ok but not fluffy enough so after dreaming of new ideas I am hopeful I've cracked it!! Going to add them to the left overs from yesterday and stuff my face again with food! Will also watch some tv, crochet and probably read a bit. Perfect.

CremeEggThief · 26/12/2020 12:06

Got up at 11.15 and just had a Baileys coffee and sweet waffles with Baileys cream for breakfast and going for a walk with DS now, before the rain comes.
