I've lost a Christmas present!

Just went to wrap everything and I can't find one of my dd's main presents! An Instax mini camera and film. It's not where I thought it was and I've just emptied every cupboard and still can't find it 😭 I thought maybe I had imagined buying it but checked my John Lewis account and there it is- delivered 6 November. I'm such an idiot. Don't know why I'm posting, just a rant. So so so annoyed with myself. I'll have to buy another 😭😭😭

I'm the queen of hiding things "somewhere safe" or away from prying eyes and losing them for months on end. I can never remember where I've stowed them. I've just unearthed a pack of bath bombs for my son's last birthday hidden in a stack of posh plates we never use in the sideboard. If it does turn up beyond the date of return, you could alway Ebay the duplicate one. So don't feel bad!

In terms of similar losses, my mum left her iPad in a pile of papers and put the whole pile in the recycling bin. Farewell the iPad.

When my DGF died, my DGM took a load of his books to a charity shop.

Needless to say the rest of the family was more than a little displeased when they went looking for his collection of First Editions, and couldn't find a single one.. BlushShock

Are you sure you haven't already wrapped it? I've done this a few times - all the gift wrapping tedium had just blurred and I've forgotten what's already been done!

Might be worth having a feel of the wrapped boxes just in case...

This is nowhere near the same scale of value but yesterday I lost 3 potatoes. We have a tonne of food in for company who aren't now coming, so yesterday I made the first of our big meals, I was making a side of mash. No alcohol was involved, I was not interrupted in any way, and yet I lost three potatoes. I'm still baffled. Did aliens beam them up?

Not a Christmas one (except we married just after Christmas) but when now-DH and I set off to Scotland to get married, we were an hour on the road when we realised we’d forgotten my dress and his suit.

Not a Christmas one (except we married just after Christmas) but when now-DH and I set off to Scotland to get married, we were an hour on the road when we realised we’d forgotten my dress and his suit.
My dh left my wedding dress in a shop a few weeks before the wedding. I had bought a gorgeous turquoise dress but couldnt work out what shoes to wear. So I put the dress in a bag, dh carried it, and we went off to Berwick Street market to match the dress to some silk with the idea of then having a pair of shoes covered in the silk. We went to Hatton Garden first to buy matching wedding rings, then onto Berwick St where Dh realised he no longer had the dress. I was worried he had left it on the tube but we went back to Hatton Garden and luckily it was in one of the jewellers there.

This is why I bought myself a massive diary and write things like this down! I wrapped all my gifts this year and found 2 boxes of gorgeous tags and bows that I bought last year in the sales.

NaughtipussMaximus · 21/12/2020 10:20

@EmmaGrundyForPM oh my god how lucky you were to find it! That’s much more nightmarish than leaving it at home.

mam0918 · 21/12/2020 11:33

@EmmaGrundyForPM

Dh once forgot to bring all.the presents for the children when we went to my parents for Christmas. They were 4 and 6 and so excited about Christmas. DH only realised at 10pm.on Christmas Eve so too late to do an emergency dash to Tesco. Cue me screaming "So, I bought all the fucking presents, i wrapped all the fucking presents, all you had to do was put them in the fucking car".
he would be driving back to get them lol
Bloodhoundgang · 21/12/2020 12:12

Standard situation this time of year. Will do a recce tomorrow of what we have and I'm sure I either won't find all of it or I'll find extra stuff😂

Mmmmdanone · 21/12/2020 15:56

Evelyn I did consider that I'd maybe wrapped it but have had a feel of all the presents I wrapped and it's not there. I surely would have remembered? Then again, there's no telling what my brain will forget obviously! Thanks all for your Christmas (and other) disasters! Xxx

I've just done this. DH has his birthday in early January so I (thought) put it in the present box. Went to wrap his Xmas presents and I can't find it anywhere. I got him a lovely Belstaff t-shirt and it's still in the Fenwick's bag.

Just vanished! So bloody annoyed.

scoobiedoobiedoo · 21/12/2020 16:58

I have lost one of my sons presents from his Uncle and aunt so we have ordered another, but it probably won't arrive in time for Christmas, other presents sent by my family haven't arrived either even though they were ordered over a month ago

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 21/12/2020 17:11

I had a lockdown clear out of my wardrobe and decided to get rid of a couple of old handbags. I check through them to make sure that there was nothing more important than a crumpled tissue and some old receipts. I found some chocolate in one - it was a WWi replica bar that was made in 2014 to commemorate the centenary. I did show it DH and tell him he should have had it for Christmas 2014 before I binned it. I hope your camera turns up a lot soon than 2026!

bearlyactive · 21/12/2020 17:18

I lost part of a secret Santa present that I'd bought last year. It was a tabletop skittles set (inside joke). Still haven't found it!
