I've lost a Christmas present!

Just went to wrap everything and I can't find one of my dd's main presents! An Instax mini camera and film. It's not where I thought it was and I've just emptied every cupboard and still can't find it 😭 I thought maybe I had imagined buying it but checked my John Lewis account and there it is- delivered 6 November. I'm such an idiot. Don't know why I'm posting, just a rant. So so so annoyed with myself. I'll have to buy another 😭😭😭

If it’s any consolation one of my fondest Christmas memories of my late mum is that every year without fail she’d sit there on Christmas Day and tell us there was a present missing but she had no idea where she’d put it. If we were lucky it would reappear by our birthdays.....or next Christmas! Xmas Grin

igotdemons · 20/12/2020 17:04

I know someone who was given quite a few gift vouchers one Christmas a few years ago. They were all for the same place but in different amounts as they were from a few different relatives. Amounted to quite a tidy sum (I think it was about £140, something like that). When he went home Christmas night he suddenly realised he didn’t have them! They were looked for everywhere but alas they were never seen again. It’s now a running joke that you shouldn’t buy him any gift vouchers! 🤦🏻‍♀️😆

I'm notorious for losing presents, I usually remember where I've put the last one or two by the end of Christmas day, so someone gets a late surprise.

spiderlight · 20/12/2020 17:40

Somewhere in our house there is a beautiful card we bought for DH's parents two Christmases ago. It was a big light-up one with a hand-made paper-cut scene on the front, really really pretty - more a Christmas decoration than a card, really. DH wrote it and put it with the presents to take down and that's the last we've seen of it. We hunt for it every year and I've never seen one that's half as nice.

I also managed to throw away £250-worth of prints from a session we had for toddler DS and the dogs with a professional photographer a few years back, on the day they arrived and before anyone else had even seen them, but fortunately they were still in the packaging and nothing had been put on top of them in the bin so they were salvageable.

Mmmmdanone · 20/12/2020 21:28

That card sounds lovely spider. Hope it turns up one day! I've dropped things on the floor sometimes and they've vanished. Think there's some of portal in my house. Or it's just a disorganised mess🤷

I once ordered a watch and a t shirt from ASOS. I received a small box which was far too small to have both in so I complained to ASOS that only half my order had arrived. They couldn’t apologise enough and refunded me very quickly and I ordered a different shirt.
When I opened the parcel to wrap the item I discovered the T shirt had been in there all along, just folded up really small. So I ended up with two t shirts!

ZigZaggyZoo · 20/12/2020 21:50

This happened to me yesterday. DH's present. I looked everywhere, checked my email to make sure I have definitely ordered it. Checked the tracking. Turns out it hasn't arrived yet. Was due yesterday but no sign yet. Ordered it a month ago so now getting used to the idea it won't turn up.

LagneyandCasey · 20/12/2020 22:18

We had a parcel delivered the day we put up the xmas decorations a few years ago. It was a hamper of preserves for the in laws. It completely disappeared and I ended up running out at the last minute to buy another present. It turned out that dh had stuck it in the loft with all the empty boxes and we found it in the new year when he went up to get them down Xmas Blush. It was a relief to find it as it was driving us mad!

TW2013 · 20/12/2020 22:25

We lost lots of stocking fillers in a house move, had to repurchase some, now have found them so popping some in this year's sockings.

Love51 · 20/12/2020 22:34

My brother and I mentioned February half term presents and our friends assumed we were spoilt. My mum worked a term time job, so having lost a wrapped present in December she would find it in February half term somewhere she kept special things. It was a bit disappointing if it was his and not mine.

Getabloominmoveon · 20/12/2020 23:03

I accidentally threw away a £60 shirt I’d bought for my son a few years back, still in the bag, which I thought was empty when I was tidying up. Didn’t realise until it was way too late.

NavyKitchen · 20/12/2020 23:05

One Christmas Eve my parents fell out spectacularly because all the presents were locked in the shed and my dad lost the shed key...

Namechangeme87 · 20/12/2020 23:09

My mum used to do this almost every year I’d end up with an extra Present a few days after Xmas that she’d find in some random place that she’d stashed it . I Used to love it

Rubbish for you though having to re buy it Xmas Sad

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 20/12/2020 23:09

@RosieLemonade

You complained before you even opened the parcel? Really?

MythsandSparkles · 20/12/2020 23:15

My favourite memories are of my mom suddenly remembering where the lost present is hidden - some years it would be mid Xmas dinner and she’d jump up and run to get it Grin

Fingers crossed you remember in time to return it!

TheChosenTwo · 20/12/2020 23:39

That is annoying OP! I recently found a couple of missing presents I’d shoved on top of cupboards in the utility room because I’d opened them to check what was in them but couldn’t be arsed to wrap them at the time. Forgot about them until I was cleaning the room on Monday!
I once threw an empty Christmas card envelope on the fire. Dh looked at me in horror. It had £150 in for the dc that my uncle had given them in the card so not quite as empty as I thought. Whoops!

Babyroobs · 21/12/2020 00:36

last christmas I accidently chucked away £50 of my dd's christmas money in a christmas card and had to refund her.

DonkeyMcFluff · 21/12/2020 00:45

This happened to my Mum several years ago. I picked out a brooch and she bought it. She thought she remembered wrapping it but I didn’t unwrap it on Xmas day. We searched the wrapping paper in case it got chucked out by mistake, searched the house - nothing. Can only assume that a visitor pocketed it because it definitely isn’t in the house.

babygrootandstarlord · 21/12/2020 01:24

One year I bought DD a sleeping bag for Christmas. Many months later she was going on a school trip...I said "oh that owl sleeping bag you got for Christmas will be perfect". Cue confused looks from kids - yep I found it still wrapped and buried at the back of a cupboard. Doh!!!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 21/12/2020 01:42

@Stompythedinosaur

EmmaGrundy that is the stuff of nightmares! What did you do?
Dh had to go back home (90 minute drive away) and get them. He got back to mum and dad's at about 2am. Luckily he hadn't had a drink during the evening.
DinosApple · 21/12/2020 07:57

I've lost £40 of gift vouchers for my niece's and nephews Xmas Shock.
We moved last weekend I was being organised getting them over a month ago, remember opening them and saying keep them in a safe place. £40 is a lot of money!

My thoughts exactly - how silly.

freakdechic · 21/12/2020 08:11

I lost a Polly pocket for DD a couple of years ago, all presents in one place and it was no where to be seen. I only realised after Xmas though, still haven't found it.

One year when I still stayed at home my mum said to me, half way through Xmas day, where are your new slippers? I said you didn't give me any, she ran upstairs and appeared with slippers 😂.

TroysMammy · 21/12/2020 08:17

Do you have an airing cupboard or somewhere where you store bedding? That's where my DM found my sister's Tufty Road Safety Game 3 months after Christmas.
