I too am surprised it’s next week. Bloody hell.

Sideorderofchips · 14/12/2020 20:16

I'm trying to be festive etc but it's hard this year

Split with my husband
Covid
Can't go home to my parents with the kids because of covid and the fact Jersey has handled it so badly
Depression
Covid

Bourbonbiccy · 14/12/2020 20:31

I can't wait for Christmas to be here, ( we were those people though who put the tree and decks up the day after bonfire night)

I am really looking forward to it this year, just our little family at home doing our own thing and my son (3) is sooo excited. It will be special.

laudemio · 14/12/2020 20:32

Next week!! Cripes!

purplecorkheart · 14/12/2020 20:36

I am glad I am not the only one. I am crying at Christmas songs on the radio but other than that If I was given the option to hibernate for the Christmas period I would.
I have no idea where March to December went other than knowing it was horrible.

NoDabbingPlease · 14/12/2020 20:39

@nosswith

Christmas seems to creep up on you in a different way depending on the day of the week it falls. Just as months seem longer if they have five weekends whereas some have four.
So true! It's worse when it's towards the end of the week I think.
LindaEllen · 14/12/2020 20:40

Just not feeling it.
Going through the motions because I must.
Finished my shopping, wrapped DSS's presents but no others yet.
Don't need to do food shopping as Dad is insisting on bringing us a Christmas dinner (he has zero faith in my skills as a cook despite the fact I produce roast dinners every bloody week - but it makes him happy so I'm letting him get on with it). I'll just throw a shed load of nibbles in with this week's food shopping.
No tree etc as we're in the middle of decorating.
I'd happily fast forward Christmas and have it over and done with to be honest!

KitKat1985 · 14/12/2020 20:43

I'm also struggling to get into the spirit. I'm working Christmas eve and Christmas day this year (nurse) which isn't helping. And constantly half expecting one of us to have to self isolate or something (there's been quite a bit of a covid around here) so have avoided making any big plans.

Heartofstrings · 14/12/2020 20:45

On a plus it's the winter solstice on the 21st so days will start to get brighter again

Oblomov20 · 14/12/2020 20:48

I'm not feeling it this year at all. I love the decorations being up. I love other people's lights. We are mostly organised and most presents are under the tree. I Even treated myself to a marks and sparks food order which I will collect. And will go to Sainsbury's and do a big Christmas shop which we will use all our points to redeem.

But. I just don't feel it. At all. Which is a bit sad.

ThatDamnKrampus · 14/12/2020 20:49

I know Sad We have the big tree up, the kids trees in their rooms, playing xmas music but it doesn't feel like Christmas.

Dd2(5) is excited but it just isn't rubbing off which is really sad (we are totally faking the excitement for her). We would normally have been ice skating, to the Christmas fair, seen santa and a couple of christmassy days out but it all seems so flat and just 'nothing' this year.

Ffsnosexallowed · 14/12/2020 20:56

We're getting new windows fitted next week, ffs. Dp said he forgot it was Xmas when he confirmed with the fitters....

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 14/12/2020 20:59

I'm not feeling it either. I want to and I keep trying but it's just not there! I like my tree and fairy lights and everyone's decorations but it feels like everyone is just going through the motions - there's no joy or excitement. Am in Wales and all the pubs and restaurants are closed and not planning to reopen until late January, so no going out for my birthday, which is between Christmas and New year and is usually my favourite time of year (stress of Christmas is over but everyone is still home from school/work). It just feels like no one is celebrating.

1sttimemumtobe2021 · 14/12/2020 21:06

Oh no! Please don't tell me this. We are meant to be hosting the in laws for Christmas dinner. Have done an extension and the kitchen doesn't even work properly yet! Never mind the rest!

Yes a bonkers idea by DP!

At least I'm not the only one not ready!

laudemio · 14/12/2020 21:25

Its such a shame, Christmas normally gives me a lift to get through boring grey Jan and Feb. But the weeks just stretch on and on. The lights are lovely but I'm not feeling festive at all, in spite of eating my bodyweight in mince pies. Still better to live through a pandemic in 2020 than 1520.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/12/2020 22:17

I'm enjoying the Christmas lights.

That's about all that can be said about it.

It's just a lock down with buying stuff for the kids.
Great.

flapjackfairy · 14/12/2020 22:27

Well I am currently in hospital with my 6 yr old for the fifth time in 3 months . I.am organised but cant get the least bit festive at all. And i am the worlds biggest christmas lover usually.
I dont even know if we will get home before christmas so cant even think.about it

It is a rubbish end to a truly awful year on every level.
So yes January will be an even bigger come down than usual.

Beecham · 14/12/2020 22:30

Good point about the winter solstice! Only one more week, and then we start to get longer days. Soon the early daffodils will be in the shops and then its only a few weeks until we see the first signs of spring. Hurray!

MaverickDanger · 14/12/2020 22:32

I’m very, very aware and would like to have this baby this week!

PickledLilly · 14/12/2020 22:35

Whaaaat? Fuck!

Etinox · 14/12/2020 22:38

Yikes
No Turkey
No tree
No cards sent (I only send a dozen to aged relatives)

And I’m working til the 23rd 🤦🏻‍♀️

@flapjackfairy @MaverickDanger Flowers 💪 you can do it!

Horsemad · 14/12/2020 22:38

Aaarrggh, can't believe it's next week. I still have loads to do, presents to post (when I buy them! 🙄) and no food organised.

I want to run away.

olderthanyouthink · 14/12/2020 22:45

Don't say things like that!!!

Fuck fuck fuck.

Still have some presents to buy, not planned dinner at all, my family is falling apart (funeral tomorrow and someone else has been hospitalised), I'm a bit pregnant so fucking shattered... aaaarrrrgh

Runnerduck34 · 14/12/2020 22:47

Aargh! ridiculous but hadn't actually twigged it's next week!
No matter how i try there are always things to do up to last minute and theres never enough time😞
Still waiting for parcels, no wrapping done, started but haven't finished putting decs up, xmas food to organise.....

Lurleene · 14/12/2020 23:03

I've been waiting for the 12th to put the tree up so couldn't believe it when I started work this morning and saw that date has passed.

I've been sat on my bum most of the weekend (DS has to self isolate) and should have done it then!
