Are Simplehuman bins worth the money?

I just can’t get over how expensive bins are!
Is it worth paying a bit more for?

We a Simple Human bin for ten years and it was great. When it broke I replaced it with a cheaper version from Amazon. Within a couple of weeks the lid wasn't working properly and the silver colour was mottled.

I think that kitchen appliances are worth paying for. I got so sick of replacing broken toasters that I have finally caved and bought a dualit one. We had one when I was growing up and it lasted well over a decade.

Yes. They replaced mine when part of the mechanism broke near the end of the guarantee period. They also replaced my dish drainer when it started to rust. Keep your receipt. Photograph it if it's from a shop whose receipts fade over time.

I had NO idea they were so expensive! It was a house moving gift from my boyfriend many years ago.
I stand by my comments. I think they are brill.

We have a sensor one, it's about our third as they just replace when it breaks. It's great though visitors can get a bit confused when they walk past it.

I have the two bin pull out one that fits in a 30mm cupboard. Think it was £60-70 from amazon. Still can’t believe I spent that on a bin, but I was sick of having the two bins out in the kitchen, my kids playing with them and catching bags and stuff on them!

The bags are expensive, but come with a really helpful reminder sticker towards the end of the box to let you know you’re running low.

I have the poor person's round pedal bin. It's "only" £80 in John Lewis.

AlwaysLatte · 28/11/2020 08:45

Yes! Admittedly I wouldn't recommend the pedal bins - my 12 year old has broken two of them with his over enthusiastic use of the bin. But I have this now - love the size and it's very well made, bags fit very neatly etc etc. And the bags NEVER split. Love it!

Yes i have the dual compartment one. I think its like £175
The paint has sort of peeled off mine and like another poster suggested above they are replacing with a new one
They are really sturdy and in 3 years i havent had a issue yet.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 28/11/2020 08:48

And dd used to sit on it all the time. She’s 14 now and 5ft 11. So she was never a small child.

It still survived.

AlwaysLatte · 28/11/2020 08:48

Mine is tall and has a touch release mechanism on the lid. What I love is the way I can use it without contaminating my hands when I'm food prepping. I use my elbow.
I have this one. Me too! I usually use my knee to open it 😂
My mum has a different make one where you have to use your hand to press it open (on the top) and I've always thought it was a bit unhygienic - I'm forever washing my hands if I use it mid food-prep there.

AlwaysLatte · 28/11/2020 08:51

NB if anyone's thinking of the rose gold finish (if they still do it) don't bother. The colour came off the first two with daily wiping and ended up plain stainless, which is a great finish anyway.

henrystender · 28/11/2020 09:11

Yes I have two

NoSquirrels · 28/11/2020 09:11

We’ve had ours 15 years. Never used the bespoke bin bags. It’s this dual compartment one - I’d buy it again today if I needed to.

recycling bin

We use a black bin bag in the smallest side for rubbish, and mixed clean recycling in the main compartment without a bin bag. It’s only fault is that there are some fiddly bits to get clean in the hinge/locking mechanism. But it’s been well worth the money and lasted 4 house moves...

Parbor · 28/11/2020 11:05

Thanks all. I’ve added one to my basket but still plucking up the courage to press buy Grin
