Are Simplehuman bins worth the money?

I just can’t get over how expensive bins are!
Is it worth paying a bit more for?

Never heard of them, but anything that leads to SIOB and incredulous "how much!?" is overpriced

There really isn't a big change in functionality.

gamerchick · 28/11/2020 08:19

It would have to be an exceptional bin at those prices.

polkadotpjs · 28/11/2020 08:19

I bought one from someone on Facebook. It's an under sink one. I've not used it yet!

LegoPandemic · 28/11/2020 08:20

We’ve had one for 13 years and it’s still going strong if that helps.

RogueV · 28/11/2020 08:20

I’ve had mine for 10 years, still looks new. Their own bags are brilliant as well! Mine is only a plasticky bin though so even though expensive didn’t cost a fortune. You can buy the bags cheaper on eBay and Amazon too.

LadySpratt · 28/11/2020 08:21

Yes! I went through two own-label kitchen bins from a well respected department store chain, and then bought a Simplehuman one. No comparison. Will definitely purchase this brand again if it ever breaks.

NotPaloma · 28/11/2020 08:21

Yes, if only because they have a lifetime guarantee. A tiny part broke on mine and they sent an entire new bin as my one was discontinued. Their bin bags are expensive though, don't fit excellently as advertised.

ShivD · 28/11/2020 08:22

We had one for about 5 years and it was good but the peddle broke but this was a while ago. We then bought a brabantia touch bin that’s now 11 years old so I would definitely recommend one of those if you like any,

I understand what you mean but ALL bins make me do that. Even a “cheap” bin doesn’t seem to actually be cheap. Our last bin was around £30 and the lid broke within weeks as well as snagging the bags constantly so I’m wondering if it’s worth paying more for one with a decent guarantee.

Ours is over 10 years old and well worth the price. It has large space for recycling which works well for us.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 28/11/2020 08:26

Ours is 6 years old. Never had a problem with it.

I was saying only the other day how it’s outlasted every other bin we’ve ever had.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 28/11/2020 08:26

I don’t bothered with special bags just use big size from supermarket.

polkadotpjs · 28/11/2020 08:27

I should say mine is only a tiny one so not a fair comparison to a pedal bin. I've hated every big bin we have

megletthesecond · 28/11/2020 08:28

Yes. Mines a decade old and still works fine.
I'm not sure I'll ever need another bin.

fluffydaschund · 28/11/2020 08:28

I've had two one for 7 years absolutely nothing wrong with it. I got them both in sales though. I had to get one because I wanted a slimline one behind the door.

Crocky · 28/11/2020 08:32

I have one. Still can’t believe I paid so much for a bin 😂 but I love it.
It fits exactly where I wanted. It’s easy to open and close. Can use an elbow or a knee if my hands are full. It still looks new after a good few years.

Parbor · 28/11/2020 08:33

Which one do you all have? Just wondering if some are better than others?

OP posts:
Fairybatman · 28/11/2020 08:34

No - the silver bits have all peeled off ours and it doesn’t always close. The mechanism is a bugger to clean too.

AnnaSW1 · 28/11/2020 08:35

They are really good. You don't need to use their bin liners though. Any are fine.

adagio · 28/11/2020 08:36

I ripped the mick out of DH for wanting and then eventually buying a massively expensive simple human Touch Bar bin. It’s great though :)

You can open it with your hand, knee, hip, toe - it has no pedal to break or get dirty, it stays remarkably clean and changing the bag is so easy (smooth and not snaggy anywhere). In fairness, it is a vast improvement on hanging a carrier bag on the back door handle.

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 28/11/2020 08:38

Yes. And comes with a long guarantee. Normal bin bags to go inside though - don't bother with their bin liners.

planningaheadtoday · 28/11/2020 08:39

I had one, replaced it with integral bin, but I've fished it out of the garage and I'm using it again.

Mine is tall and has a touch release mechanism on the lid. What I love is the way I can use it without contaminating my hands when I'm food prepping. I use my elbow.

I love that it's so easy to clean

I love that the liner doesn't get stuck by being suctioned in to the main bin when emptying.

I use standard bin bags from Amazon in it so it's cheap to use.

I now have my simple human bin next to my new bin Grin

planningaheadtoday · 28/11/2020 08:40

@adagio that's the one I have.

PumpkinCheater · 28/11/2020 08:40

We've had ours for a good 15 years and it's amazing. 100% would buy it again. We coud have spent the same money on 3 cheaper bins and they would probably all have broken by now.
