Do you put your presents under the tree?

I've always just put them under the tree but OH thinks they shouldn't go under the tree until the night before Xmas?

Always put them under the tree once the children are asleep. They're older now so takes a bit of staying up these days!

JustCallMeGriffin · 24/11/2020 16:30

Under our tree stays empty until Father Christmas visits. As he only leaves a stocking full of chocolate and one gift each it's easy to manage and arrange.

The presents from us as parents are in an oversized bag and brought out Christmas morning to much delight.

This is a massive compromise from my husband because he thinks leaving gifts underneath the tree is inviting trouble into your home so just 'letting' Father Christmas leave his inexpensive treats there was a massive step for him to take.

Flatpackback · 24/11/2020 16:30

When DC were small, nothing under the tree until they were asleep on Christmas Eve. When they were adults, nothing under the tree until Christmas Eve. However, now there are GC we are back to hiding it all so they only see stuff on Christmas Day.

DH and I have always just put presents under the tree, but this year is our daughters first Christmas so no presents under the tree till santa brings them on Christmas Eve 😊

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 24/11/2020 16:38

We leave them till Xmas eve, from the time when the kids couldn't be trusted with them 😄

Roo1000 · 24/11/2020 16:41

Presents from friends, relatives go under the tree as and when we get them. DC’s presents go onto the sofa’s (they have one sofa each loaded with prezzies) and Santa brings them late Christmas Eve of course 🎅🏼

SilenceOfThePrams · 24/11/2020 16:52

Just stockings from Santa. Other presents go under the tree as they arrive/get wrapped.

Never had a child open them early; half the presents under the tree are ones for other people anyway. It’s just where they get stored. And my child gets really stressed if there are no presents under the tree, bog worries that there might not be any. Seeing the pile grow and knowing they exist helps reduce Christmas stress.

jessstan1 · 24/11/2020 17:02

@VenusClapTrap

Christmas Eve after the kids are asleep. That thrill of seeing the big pile on Christmas morning is one of the great joys of childhood. I can still vividly remember that feeling.
Me too! I always put them under the tree for Christmas day. In the past if we had anyone over later, like grandparents, they would bring presents and give them out. I thought everyone did that!

Stockings would be opened in our bed.

When I was a kid I used to drag stocking and pillow case into my mum and dad's bedroom at some unearthly hour. My dad used to put them at the bottom of my bed before he retired for the night (thinking I was asleep).

PattyPan · 24/11/2020 17:09

Not until the night of Christmas Eve here

inappropriateraspberry · 24/11/2020 17:21

We usually put them under as we receive them, but I think this year I'll hide them until Xmas eve. I think the children's faces will be great when they see it all on Xmas morning!

inappropriateraspberry · 24/11/2020 17:23

Oh, and Father. Christmas's presents are in their stockings at the end of the beds! We give to them, from Mum & Dad, other gifts under the tree.

RaininSummer · 24/11/2020 17:28

This is one reason tgat I don't like the tree up really early as it looks so sad bare. So yes, under the tree but not until 2nd week of December ish.

exhaustedbutstillgoing · 24/11/2020 18:39

May I ask what everyone puts in stocking fillers I have never done them before?

Little bits like books, small toys, chocolates.

Essentials like socks, bubble bath, pants - usually novelty or character ones

Always a satsuma and chocolate coins :)

MadisonAvenue · 24/11/2020 18:51

In our house they go under the tree before bedtime on Christmas Eve, our kids are adults so there’s no pretence to keep up but we have a dog who loves unwrapping presents Grin

When our sons were young everything would be hidden away until they were sleeping on Christmas Eve so that they’d wake up to find a big pile of presents under the tree.

soundsystem · 24/11/2020 18:56

@MarjorytheTrashHeap

Presents from Grandparents, extended family etc go under the tree when we get them. Presents from Father Christmas (us!) get put under there after the DC are in bed on Christmas Eve. Part of the fun is waking up in the morning and checking "if he's been".
Exactly this!
LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/11/2020 18:59

Presents go under the tree. Stockings are the Santa surprises. That's the way we've made our Christmas...

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 24/11/2020 19:07

I'd love to put presents under the tree and get them out if my bedroom. But I have a bastard cat and she'd think all her Christmases had come at once if I left her unattended with boxes covered in wrapping paper! Grin

hopeishere · 24/11/2020 19:14

We see family on Christmas Day and don't get presents from other people so there's just a few under the tree.

mam0918 · 25/11/2020 12:49

presents under the tree are from us and family and go under anytime.

gifts brought by Santa are unwrapped and appear xmas eve after they go to bed.

Stockings fill on xmas eve night too.

PoppyOppy · 25/11/2020 13:06

@CMOTDibbler

No, not at all - we open presents in the bedroom
Only the ones from Santa, surely? Confused
Ohdoleavemealone · 25/11/2020 13:08

No way! The kids would be in them well before xmas arrived!

We put them out xmas eve.

MrsJonesAndMe · 25/11/2020 13:14

A few days before Christmas everything comes down from hiding and goes under the tree. Father Christmas brings one present for each child so that obviously appears overnight after he's been.

bigpricklyfern · 25/11/2020 13:22

Ours go under as soon as they are wrapped. I remember as a child the excitement of seeing the presents under the tree build up. My DC would never open them early so they’re quite safe from the children under there! And they just get a stocking from Father Christmas.

CMOTDibbler · 25/11/2020 13:25

@PoppyOppy theres only the 3 of us, and only a few presents as there are only the ones between us, so sitting in our bed together drinking tea while opening them and talking about it makes it a bit different. On the odd occasion when we've had overnight guests, then obviously it's different
