Well average faces are attractive right? According to the psychology anyway.

Be blessed that your looks are unique OP. Who wants to be average anyway? Boring.

Bluntness100 · 22/11/2020 16:13

Cameron Diaz is defintely conventionally attractive, let’s face it she’s gorgeous,,she’s another poster girl for it, the size of your tits doesn’t generally dictate how attractive you are, 😂

melisande99 · 22/11/2020 16:24

@CurrentEvents

David Bowie wasn't conventionally attractive but people still absolutely threw themselves at him. Same with Mick Jagger and Steve Tyler. They're not Tom Hardy, but they're magnetic and charismatic and there is just something unique and deeply appealing about them to some people.
Ha, and I wouldn't have said Tom Hardy was conventionally attractive! Though maybe it's more just that I can't see why he is generally considered such a hottie.

Trying to think whose name I'd replace Tom Hardy with has made me realise there's no "conventionally attractive" man (i.e. known as a typical heartthrob) that I actually find remotely attractive.

Mollyboom · 22/11/2020 16:31

I get told this often- but I take it as a compliment. When I was in school I always wanted to look like those conventionally pretty round faced girls. Now in my 40's I am so happy I am how I am. I stand out from the crows and unconventional beauty ages a fuck lot better than the chocolate box type.

Fressia123 · 22/11/2020 16:42

My DP likes exotic beauties to me they're borderline fugly. Every now and then I get a but annoyed about it.

LemonBar · 22/11/2020 16:48

Neither a compliment nor an insult

Conventionally attractive is would the vast majority of people think they are attractive. Unconventionally attractive is would they divide opinion.

Tom hardy, David Bowie, idris Elba, Cameron Diaz and uma Thurman are all conventionally attractive because the vast majority of people think they are, it’s people like Jarvis cocker, matt smith, Barbara Streisand or Angelica Houston, people who are unusual looking, for want of a better phrase, when you consider the norms of beauty, but are considered attractive by some and not by others. They don’t have an over whelming majority either way,

What do you mean exotic beauties?
Fressia123 · 22/11/2020 17:02

Think of PJ Harvey, Karen O, Uma Thurman, Bjork.

pressedclay · 22/11/2020 17:04

I don't think its critical actually a lot of high fashion models aren't conventionally attractive are they but they are still beautiful. I think being conventioanlly attractive is more of middle of the road thing.

Is this not just jealousy speaking?
Fressia123 · 22/11/2020 17:21

I've always had self-esteem issues. I was bullied for being "fugly" and I think DP is semi out of my league, so maybe.

LemonBar · 22/11/2020 17:37

In your case he obviously has a taste for what you think is fugly is beautiful to him! So don't worry about being out of your league you're a beauty to him.

LemonBar · 22/11/2020 17:37

Sorry that was to Fressia

midsomermurderess · 22/11/2020 17:45

Jolie laide, as the French have it. Going back a bit, but eg Bette Davis. Or Angelica Houston.

Audreyseyebrows · 22/11/2020 17:51

I would take it as a compliment! To me it would mean that I’m attractive but I don’t look all the Instagram clones.

Bananajam · 22/11/2020 17:59

I would much rather be unconventionallly attractive than standard symmetrical features attractive but I think a lot of people in this list are A list and therefore we are told to see them as attractive. DH thinks Angelina Jolie is unconventionally attractive whereas I think she's obviously very attractive as big eyes, big lips etc.

Quirky is good and makes you standout from the crowd. The generation of lip fillers and botox regardless of original features all end up looking rather Barbiesque and those who keep their own looks may end up looking better in the long run for not submitting to fashion.

melisande99 · 22/11/2020 19:03

I think that's so true, @Bananajam - we're very much told who is attractive. I wonder whether the A-listers who leave me cold are actually brimming with sexual magnetism in person, or whether it's basically PR and hype.
